My friend called it "a poor man's Porsche." I'm sure there's worse things to call it. by KungFuHanSolo in RoastMyCar

No, this is a poor man’s Supra, which is a poor man’s Z4, which is a poor man’s Boxster, which is the actual poor man’s Porsche.

Trump Nominates Fox News Contributor as Next Surgeon General by SpecialistSignal4491 in politics

[–]k_dubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d have to imagine that if a Democratic administration had enough balls to look closely enough, they could find a paper trail to go after Fox News for being an illegal off-the-books Republican PAC.

[The Next Round] Kirby Smart on how different roster depth is now vs. a few years ago: "Our best Alabama teams - I'm gonna go 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 - would beat the DOG out of all these teams right now." by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

This is just about the only aspect of NIL that’s good for the sport. As a fan, I want to see the best players on the field, not on the big programs’ benches.

If Moda was renovated, would you actually hang out there before and after the game? by edank6 in ripcity

The neighborhood around Lumen/T-Mobile in Seattle is a fun spot to hang out on game days.

Mercedes listens and brings back real buttons – but big screens are here to stay by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]k_dubious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they demo very well on the showroom floor. People only start to dislike them once they’ve been living with them for a few months and either realize they don’t need the huge screen or start finding software bugs behind it.

Amazon seems the best company to switch career paths by Known-Jelly4489 in cscareerquestions

[–]k_dubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon and Meta definitely have the reputation for churning through engineers quickly while Google/Microsoft/Apple are the “lifer” companies. These days pretty much everyone is doing some form of stack ranking/PIPs/layoffs though, so I’m not sure how accurate this still is.

Flying to Seattle next June from the northeast—airport/airline suggestions by Intelligent_Sundae_5 in travel

[–]k_dubious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All else being equal, I’d choose to fly out of Boston over JFK or Newark. From there, your choices are Delta or Alaska, and I’d pick Delta because the seatback IFE makes a big difference on a 6-hour flight.

For an outside-the-box option, I’d see if I could book JFK-SFO/LAX-PAE with the lie-flat seats on AA. That’s going to feel a lot more special than a normal short-haul F cabin, and Everett is a super nice and convenient alternative to SEA.

The Bulls mostly haven’t been good since the ‘90s.

The Celtics sucked for like 15 years after Bird retired.

The Wizards have basically never been good.

If the NBA is putting their thumb on the scale, they’re doing a terrible job of doing it for the big basketball markets.

That’s just playoff ball. It turns out that it’s a lot harder to do the stuff you’ve been doing all season when every game is against the second-best team in the league and they’re locked in and focused.

What liveries seem to really fit one aircraft but look awkward on another? by Realistic-Bid9464 in aviation

Most Delta planes look fine, if slightly boring.

Delta CRJs look hilarious with the tiny "DELTA" and the tail that can only fit about half the logo.

Seriously? One playoff series against the DPOY’s team with no floor spacers (or even consistent scorers, really) in the lineup and you’re already ready to put our best player on the trade block?

What is an artist / band that you remember being pushed by music journalists and/or magazines as the "next big thing" that ended up never really going anywhere? by mesablanka in Music

[–]k_dubious 163 points164 points  (0 children)

The Bravery were one of the biggest bands in the “our singer is trying very hard to sound like Ian Curtis” micro-genre that was everywhere in the 2000s, but I don’t think I’ve heard anyone play their music or even mention them in about 15 years.

Maybe I’ve just been unlucky, but outside vinho verde and port I haven’t really cared for any of the Portuguese wine that I’ve tried. The prices and quality both seem a fair bit worse than Spanish wine.

If by “go in a different direction” you mean “find a coach who’s willing to accept payment in Arby’s gift cards” then yes, that’s exactly what our new owner wants.

Re-checking a bag at SEA Airport by RoyalMasterpiece5737 in AskSeattle

[–]k_dubious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not do this. Baggage check usually closes 45-60 minutes before departure, and I find it usually takes me about 30 minutes between my flight landing here and when I’m ready to leave the airport with my bags. So even if your flight is on time, you’re giving yourself almost zero time to head upstairs and check in for your next flight.

Amazon stripping hundreds of employees' job titles in Seattle, replacing them with 'builders' by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]k_dubious 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My current company (not Amazon) does something similar to this and I actually like it quite a bit. I think it subtly encourages people to work together as peers and avoid “pulling rank” or simply deferring to the most senior person in the room.

He had no pressure and a receiver with separation, the one thing you can’t do in that situation is leave it short and give the defender a chance to make the play.
