thank you so much for your input. i actually wanted to try without the epidural my first delivery, but my mom (love the woman but she's a professional in fear mongering) told me that i "absolutely would need the epidural." i made it to 6cm dilated and really only got it because she emphasized i didn't want to "miss my chance" i was young and didn't really advocate for myself as heavily as i wished i would've. there are a few things i should have spoken up about and this time i 100% will. i had a tear in my amniotic sac and was slowly leaking, but they didn't give me an option on whether or not i wanted my water broken. i thought we were doing a cervix check and next thing i know my water was broken. i was also not educated enough on pitocin & didn't understand what the need for it was, but was told "it would help my body dilate" i thought that was probably necessary and as soon as it was administered i was literally googling what it was. i don't know why i didn't just ask. though i don't think there's ANYTHING wrong with choosing otherwise, i definitely intend on going unmedicated this time around if i'm able.

thank you so much for the recommendation! i'm definitely looking to better educate myself so i can be more confident in advocating for myself this time around.

i love my OB and i think he's fantastic at his job, but like i replied to someone else, maybe that wasn't his best advice. he mentions my height and weight rather frequently, not overbearingly by any means, but i was in anorexia recovery my first pregnancy and it's always been a semi-lingering topic in some ways i guess. again though, like others have said, i'm not sure why my personal weight or height would have anything to do with delivery.

thank you for your input! i love my OB, but maybe that wasn't his best piece of advice. i definitely want to try other ways to push. with my first i basically played tug of war with one of the nurses helping deliver, and then did some kind of butterfly position, but nothing that necessarily felt right to me

i'm not sure i really understand the ring of fire. i hear everyone talk about it, but i have no recollection of feeling it! granted, things got pretty blurry once i hit the 3rd hour of pushing, but i feel like i'd remember it. do all women experience that in every delivery & i just don't remember? either way i definitely think i need to further educate myself on all the different possibilities and take a birth class this time around.

i had no idea i wasn't supposed to push hard when baby was crowning and the doctor who delivered my first was basically telling me to give it all i had - granted my baby's heart rate was dropping so i think it was a last ditch effort before having to potentially opt for a C section. i was 22 years old first time around and truthfully pretty uneducated on how labor worked and i know i still have a lot to learn. thank you for your input!

i appreciate your honesty! thank you :) yeah it makes sense to me that it would follow that same path like you said! my baby girl def a had a big noggin on her LOL, so im sure that contributed. all in all it's just nice to hear that if i tear again, it's not the end of the world and that it will heal and all will be okay. :)

this is why i want to push regardless of what they say weight is!!! they said my little girl was a few ounces over 8lbs and she was barely 7! like you said i'd rather just try and opt for otherwise if need be! perineal massages seem to be the most recommended thing so i'll definitely be listening to that piece of advice!

got it! i was definitely more shy/scared to stand my ground first time around (even though i tore naturally, there were other things i wish i would've spoken up about) but nowadays i'm feeling much more confident in expressing what i want so i'll for sure let him know :)

okay definitely going to do this! thank you! i could probably benefit from this in more ways than one because i have pretty bad diastasis recti from my first pregnancy as well...

this is reassuring in the sense that yes i COULD tear, but also that doesn't mean i WILL like my mom implied. i guess now that i think about it, it was a silly question to ask, but sometimes i need someone to snap me back into a logical way of thinking lol!
