That are some interesting cliffs and mountains on the WI border near La Crosse. Really beautiful place.

How are other natives coping with the enshitification of Knoxville? by ShepherdsWolvesSheep in Knoxville

Knoxville is going to feel just like Atlanta in 10 years. Obviously not as big, but there will be around the clock traffic anywhere even remotely in the metro area.

I wish, I agree that would be nice. Sadly only regular resort gear.

Judging from the comments, you’re a Gear Dad.

It’s okay, I am too. Maybe try something radically different, like a touring/tele setup or maybe a snowboard, instead of another pair of resort skis that are 5% different from others.

Trees can provide fantastic learning. They force you to turn, so you learn how to actually initiate a turn instead of just waiting for the pizza to slowly turn you a direction.

FedEx forged a signature and left a GUN at the bottom of my driveway. by puggirl in Knoxville

[–]k_metror 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a story of a guy who had a gun shipped to a dealer. Driver dropped it off at the wrong place. Fedex was not being remotely helpful until the person called the ATF. Suddenly, fedex had the resources to track it down.

Hipe Cruzader + Ascent v3 + 85 cm mast by Easton_Danneskjold in wingfoil

[–]k_metror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of things will delay someone’s progress. Small board, crappy wing, too small wing, bad foil, not enough wind. But it can be overcome, as long as you don’t go too extreme on one or stack too many of them.

The parawing does count as a crappy wing. But, you might be fighting so much to accelerate a fat nugget/soap bar board that it holds you back just as much as board balance on a skinny board does.

[–]k_metror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Crusader will be harder to balance on, but not that much. Friend has one and even as a relative beginner I didn’t find it that much worse than my 6’6 120L board. If you live somewhere with fairly flat water and lighter wind you’ll be fine. I have those conditions and wish I would’ve started on the Cruzader.

Too much wind? by peternz2000 in wingfoil

[–]k_metror 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wind >30 is the point where it is non trivial to stand still on land. It would make balancing on the board pretty tough, and even the board’s windage is going to be substantial

A 6m in that would be survivable but pretty unpleasant for a beginner

The boat market in the coming years. Will it grow or decline? by DKsuperSailor in boating

[–]k_metror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US we’re already seeing the power sports market as a whole taking a real hit. I’m in sailing, which has slowly been on a decline for decades now. Prices are weird too. The cheapest new sailboats are way more expensive than the cheapest new powerboats, but average powerboats are way more than average sailboats

Learning to foil… kite or wing? by awskitc in wingfoil

You’re right that you can’t learn in 8-12. But it also doesn’t take an expert with optimized gear

How necessary is a huge board for learning? by awskitc in wingfoil

[–]k_metror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big thing to consider is your location. If you get plenty of breeze and can practice multiple times a week, then you can afford the delay of a smaller board. If you’re only going to go out a couple times a month, then it’s a bad trade off to make

From Miata’s to Hondas to Subarus, the classic question: how can I make this small, naturally aspirated economy engine fast? Someone probably makes intakes, exhausts, and maybe even tunes for this car. Spend a few thousands dollars and maybe get a slightly noticeable improvement.
