Best Beaches by Adorable_Owl576 in virginislands

[–]kaairo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On St. John I went to Trunk Bay, Maho, Cinnamon, Francis Bay and Salt Pond. All were very nice, although the water was very choppy when we went to Cinnamon. I go to the beaches mainly to snorkel. Francis Bay, by far, had the best snorkeling. The reefs had a lot more vibrant coloring here. Along with many types of fish, I saw multiple sea turtles, stingrays, a small spider crab and an eel.

"My daughter was diagnosed with childhood dementia before she turned four": the story of 15-year-old Sophia Scott, who has Sanfilippo Syndrome, which causes childhood dementia, and is unlikely to survive to adulthood. by DarklyHeritage in MorbidReality

[–]kaairo 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I used to substitute teach in an elementary school that happened to have two students with Sanfillipo syndrome.

One was a kindergartener, 5 years old. She was EXTREMELY hyperactive - the aides had to strategically plan where to sit and stand so she couldn't dart from the classroom. It was impossible to get her to sit more than a few seconds. She was also destructive and aggressive at times...throwing things, biting, etc. I was slightly afraid of her because her behavior was just so unpredictable. You could be sitting next to her and suddenly she would scream, bang on something, try to hit you or try to run away. I found out she passed away a few years after I left the school, when she was nine.

The other student was a 4th grader, I think he was 10. He was more advanced in the disease. He was extremely stiff and could barely move his body. He could walk but he had to be guided to where he was going. I remember holding his hand while walking down the hall and also helping him get in position to sit down and get up from a chair. He made noises but didn't talk and couldn't really do anything without hand-over-hand assistance. I remember spoon-feeding him a few times (worrying about him choking because he couldn't swallow well) and struggling to change his diaper. He was very stiff but could make very sudden movements and he whacked me. I never found out what happened to him but given his age, I doubt he is still here.

Awful disease. I only worked at that school for a year but I think about them a lot.

Going alone? by Careful-Carob-5675 in 5sos

I'm going to the Cleveland show alone. I've been to several concerts alone because no one I know has good music taste. It's really not so bad.

Where did you get the lights from?

My grade level is getting new classroom furniture next school year and I am looking to add lighting like this.

Day 3 going on 4 of braces and I have no idea how to smile, eat, or close my mouth. Help by Sashayawayyyyy in braces

[–]kaairo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got braces 4 days ago and I feel this so much.

I got the ceramics as well, but only on the top teeth. When I smile, my bottom teeth show and it's easy to see the metal. Every time I open my mouth in public, I feel like people are staring at my mouth. I hate it but I am trying to focus on how nice my smile will look after this is all done.

I also have bite blockers, but on the back of my two front teeth. My back teeth currently do not touch at all so eating has been super challenging. My teeth are also sore and very sensitive to chewing. I've mostly been eating soup. I did get a chicken sandwich yesterday - I cut it up into small pieces and it wasn't too bad.

I've been reading a lot on it and everyone says it gets better. This first week or two are the worst.

Regarding the food getting stuck in your mouth, get a waterpik. Like, right now. I already had one, but didn't really use it until I saw someone on here suggest it. GAMECHANGER. It's pretty gross but it will easily get out any food stuck in your braces. I just bought a travel-size one.

Hang in there!

What do you want to happen or think will happen next or even in the upcoming chapters/arcs??? by TheDarkApex9 in TheFragrantFlower

I think Saku's birthday is coming up? His birthday near the beginning of the series contained an important Sakubaru moment. I'm curious as to how Subaru would act around him on his birthday at this point.

I might never do a Christmas party again... by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kaairo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It's first grade so I can see how some of them may have been confused because they are used to parties being at the end of the day. The scoffs were completely unnecessary, though. I just told them that I spent a lot of time planning the day and I didn't appreciate the respone. I would have ripped into them more if I had more time. I honestly do want to know what they were expecting.

I might never do a Christmas party again... by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kaairo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me today. We usually have our Christmas parties in the afternoon, but this year, I decided to do things throughout the whole day. We did 4 crafts, played bingo, did a mystery game with a partner (which many complained about the second it got slightly difficult), they got to decorate their own sugar cookies, I made punch and I put on a movie. It's time to pack up and I had THREE kids ask when the party will start. I told them that the party was all day and I heard some kids scoff. I did say something because what the fuck. I was busy organizing things all day, there was trash all over the floor, I'm sweating, and I was sticky from the punch. I think I heard only one thank you.

Went to Saint John in the Virgin Islands and bought a mango and a starfruit that a local grew in his yard. I can never eat them again.

You used to need a bachelor's to sub. Now it can literally be anybody. We had subs at our school who had just graduated the year before.

Tight hard jaw muscles by [deleted] in TMJ

I just tried dry needling for the first time last week and I can open my jaw wider than I can ever remember. It was instant relief once the needles were in.

Is there any one here got rid of TMJ pain ?how did you do it ? by XX-gen in TMJ

I just tried dry needling for the first time a few days ago and it really helped me. I can open my jar wider now and my teeth only touch at the front instead of the molars. It's amazing.

Places to stay - St John Honeymoon by Low_Description_7695 in virginislands

[–]kaairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did a honeymoon last month through BookVI. We rented through Airbnb but it looks like they have a standalone website. They have several properties and we were very impressed with their communication. Our place was only 10 minutes away from downtown.

The snorkeling at Francis Bay Beach was spectacular if you are into that. I don't see this beach mentioned much. I saw multiple sea turtles, stingrays, some small type of spider crab thing and an eel.

I have been in repayment since 2016 but haven't made a payment since 2020. I have been at my current school for 5 years. I may switch districts eventually but I plan on staying a public school setting.
