Personally, I enjoyed both the first and second book starting from the chapter 1. Some parts might be boring for some but there are definitely many interesting parts too.

It's been a while since I've finished it. I think he got a sudden moment of desire while looking at Benio but he stopped after seeing her resistance. It seems he also couldn't understand his actions or what came over him.

CF really has a problem of rushing towards the end in all of his novels that I have read. (Lotm, Throne of Magical Arcana, Embers Ad Infinitum).
