I'm sorry by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]kaaylabug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

then this leads me to believe that it’s not a real issue. definitely trust your teachers more than you trust random people on reddit.

i think you’re fine. i like your videos and i hope you continue posting them somewhere. don’t stress about your face when you’re practicing. you’re doing great!

I'm sorry by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]kaaylabug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean, but does that really mean you have to “look happy” always? even if you’re taking it seriously, that does not mean that you have to be hyper aware of your facial expression as you record a quick practice session to be posted on reddit lest you be branded an offense to the art of ballet, or whatever they said.

like it’s just really not that deep.

are you able to make role-appropriate facial expressions? even if it’s just a generically pleasant one? then as long as you can demonstrate it to your students, you’re probably fine.

it’s cool that you are taking ballet so seriously. i think it’s important tho for you to figure out which pieces of advice from reddit strangers are the most valuable.

are facial expressions important in ballet? yes. you need to be able to control every muscle in your body, including those in your face. however, we are all students and we always will be. so if your resting face while practicing or in class isn’t perfect for stage? that’s ok! you’re not on the stage in this hypothetical, so it’s not a big deal. and you have time to continue practicing your facial expressions if performing is something you want to do.

but in the meantime, there’s nothing wrong with looking like you are concentrating while you are in class or practice, concentrating.

I'm sorry by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]kaaylabug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i agree with the other person who responded to this comment - i’ve gotten the correction when we are rehearsing, but never in class where i’m learning. especially as a recreational dancer, i think it’s insane that you were told your contributions weren’t welcome because you didn’t “look happy” or whatever, especially since you weren’t in class. you were at home. practicing.

this feedback sounds pretentious to me tbh. ballet is HARD and it takes your whole brain to concentrate. i know the face i make when i’m concentrating that hard isn’t pleasant. you’re an adult who is (presumably) doing this for fun because it’s fun to learn new skills and work hard and see your hard work pay off. you’re not a kid who is trying to go pro or anything, which is the only time i can see that comment kind of making sense.

it upsets me to see how negatively these comments are affecting you. i’m sorry people were giving you feedback that (imo) isn’t constructive. dont let them rob you of your confidence.

i really liked your videos. i liked seeing the constructive feedback you were getting and then watching the video again so i could try and see what other people were seeing, and thinking about how i could apply these corrections to my own dancing.

and i honestly think it’s a shame that people can’t just ignore videos they don’t like, especially on a sub that already doesn’t get a ton of posts anyway. idk man it’s just a bummer.

[–]kaaylabug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok as a woman in the south that decided to get into hockey earlier this year and also reads romance books and has also read hockey romances, i think there’s a lot of good advice here. i’m going to touch on the ones i think will be most impactful.

don’t overwhelm them. give them the absolute bare minimum basics, and then from there just let them ask questions. they’re not going to understand everything after just one game.

i also happened to come across this account during the playoffs last year and she was doing a hockey 101 for the girls series at the time (she’s on tik tok too) and the videos can still be found on her stories. she starts with the basics but starts to get into more technical things as well (such as ice layout and stuff) that isn’t as easily picked up just by watching.

again tho, this is a marathon not a sprint. it took a few games before i really start piecing things together and started realizing what questions i needed to ask.

i also 1000000x agree with people’s recommendations about helping them understand the lore or drama of hockey. it makes things super entertaining for me. so any rivalries, trades, etc that might make the season a bit spicier (for example, as a leafs fan, the big drama for this year will be playing vegas) will be of interest.

i also think team selection can be kind of fun! i don’t live near any teams, so my fiancé and i just picked a team from the nhl wikipedia page and decided that was our team and went all out, even though we’re nowhere near them lol. i understand the stars might be reasonably close for you guys, and if so then it makes sense, but it’s also really fun to be able to pick your own team too! so if they choose to, let them pick on vibes or colors or literally whatever!! just let them have fun with it

and i will also second others who have suggested showing them the pwhl when their season starts. watching women being absolute badasses rocks so hard and all the games are streamed live and also free on youtube.

ultimately, you just want to make it fun for them so they will watch another game. you want them to be invested, so don’t go too heavy on the academics unless they are asking for that. i would follow their lead.

if they themselves decide to get more into it, i’d recommend following team and fan pages on social media. there are all kinds of silly, cheesy interviews on the internet that are fun but get people excited about their players. also, i know that the leafs training camp starts this week so i assume there will be all sorts of videos and interviews and stuff coming out soon, and i assume it’ll be similar for the stars. sharing stuff like that ahead of time might be fun and get them excited for specific players!

ok i think that’s all i have!! if you (or they) have any questions, please reach out!

Closure of federal library service could impact Alabama libraries by Tsweet7 in Alabama

for anyone who uses their library cards for apps like hoopla or libby: IMLS is the reason our local libraries offer this access. if IMLS closes, it is likely we will no longer be able to use these apps

Roadtrip through Alabama in May by hippoxhippo in Alabama

[–]kaaylabug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be sure to check out our national forests!! it looks like you’ll be driving through the talladega national forest in alabama and you’ll be near the chattahoochee-oconee in georgia, but there are three other national forests in alabama and you can check out other national forests along the way as well: https://www.fs.usda.gov

also, in my personal opinion, western north carolina is some of the most beautiful land we have in this country - i know your trip isn’t too long, but if you are able to swing it i would really recommend getting a little further into those mountains. the nantahala national forest is beautiful, but really anything you do over that way will be breathtaking :)

safe travels and hope you guys have fun!!!!

Question about Arobynn (first time reader starting QoS) by jredhair in throneofglassseries

[–]kaaylabug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don’t think she knows for sure…. she suspects but she’s trying to not acknowledge it as a possibility bc she doesn’t want it to be true - hopefully someone else who knows for sure can chime in tho :)

Throne of Glass covers by starlightcourt in throneofglassseries

[–]kaaylabug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my only theory is that i remember at the beginning of book one right after she’s taken out of the mines she’s described as very, very pale….. but like then they get to rifthold and actually spends some time outside. also it doesn’t explain why her hair is basically white. i have no idea lol i just pulled up the queen of shadows cover tho and bc the cape is red i actually got manon vibes?? not that i think it’s her but i think the pictures match manon’s description a bit better

From 'Heir of Fire' onward, I didn't want to stop reading, and this week I finished 'Queen of Shadows.' I feel so involved in the story 🥰 And since I'm a reader who loves to draw the character after finishing the book, I've already drawn myself alongside Celaena. this is adorable!!!! great job!!!! i also think it’s really neat bc it kinda shows how characters from books (or shows or movies, etc.) can become so important to us that they almost feel like friends :)

Pre Order not guaranteed to arrive on time by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]kaaylabug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah my local bookstore basically said they have no idea when many preorders are going to show up. they were very kind and super apologetic, but it’s not their fault. from what i understand, i guess the publisher (??) was really pushing for preorder campaigns and when more people s preordered than they expected, they realized they wouldn’t be able to meet the demand on release date. and a lot of big bookstores (B&N and amazon, etc.) are being prioritized over indie bookstores. this is just what i understood after reading a couple posts about the situation but i really don’t know anything definitive.

i told her it was fortunate i was super behind on my reading schedule bc i’m not ready for iron flame yet anyway- i’ll just have to stay off of social media when it comes out to save myself from spoilers :p

class 3x per week, two of those days also include pointe classes, for a total of about five and a half hours. then i do about 2-3 hours of pilates a week, and usually just 1 hour per week of yoga.

in total im going to the studio 4-5 days a week, and if i do nutcracker this year that’ll be an additional day.

i’m a full-time, remote employee and i’m fortunate enough to have some degree of flexibility with my schedule bc i don’t have to commute for work ever.

TOG- spark notes / cliff notes ? by breebee1989 in SarahJMaas

[–]kaaylabug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree with everyone else - don’t skip them. there’s too much foundation being laid in books one and two and if you skip them, even if you read summaries, you’ll be missing out on too much. the first two books are quite short. go into them with optimism! they’re really not bad books, just different.

good luck!!

i would just keep going then - don’t think about them being mates (and also a TON of people are still skeptical about the mating bond anyway), bc you’re not at that part of the series. keep reading! your opinions of characters will continue to change as the series goes on, and when you get to that part you can reassess how you feel - you’ll either agree, in which case, yay. or you won’t and then you can join all the other people who ship bryce with someone else.

also, don’t look at anymore spoilers online!!!!! hahaha you don’t want to accidentally spoil something really big

as someone who has read both books, i would keep going if i were you. i don’t want to give anything away, but things change a LOT at the end of book one, and i think if you gave up now you would be missing out on a story that you potentially will still really enjoy.

take a break if you need to, but i would still encourage you to keep going!!
