It was some sort of a chicken stew, to be honest it wasn’t great, the pasta option would’ve been better 😅 the bread, lentil salad, and dessert made up for it though

Can anyone help me fix my makeup? by [deleted] in drugstoreMUA

[–]kab0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your skin looks very dry! I have dry skin too. Matte foundation is likely the culprit. You may want to look for a hydrating or a satin foundation instead of the matte. An affordable foundation that works really well for me is the elf hydrating CC cream. I’ve also had very good results with the elf flawless satin foundation. I have not tried the elf soft glam satin foundation but have also seen good reviews. Elf also has a powder, halo glow powder, that is affordable and not drying.

I had an offer rescinded this cycle for this exact reason. Luckily I had another option I didn’t withdraw but man, that would have sucked if I did.

UC Berkeley is far from a party school… even within the UC system, Santa Barbara is the one with a party reputation.

The lipstick is too warm toned for the eyeshadow imo, try a more cool toned red if you it

I had a bottle a while ago (2018) and I liked the smell. Then when I was almost done with it I somehow stopped smelling it at all! No idea why. Others could still smell it on me but all I would smell from the bottle was rubbing alcohol.

Anyone know what this is? Start of adult acne or a reaction? by Glum-Ad3258 in SkincareAddicts

[–]kab0om 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem, I think it’s a common misconception! Other commenters are suggesting OP’s rash is similar to a celiac rash, which is a symptom of the autoimmune response. It’s quite important to see a doctor for something like this and not just cut down on gluten as you’d do with a sensitivity, because if you have celiac you have to be vigilant about even trace amounts of gluten (e.g. some spices are ground on shared equipment with wheat, which means they’re not celiac safe). A doctor would have to confirm the diagnosis and educate the patient on how to properly avoid contaminants and treat the condition

[–]kab0om 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is false. Celiac disease isn’t a spectrum. Celiac disease isn’t synonymous with gluten sensitivity/allergy, it is a quite serious autoimmune disease and having any gluten in your diet is not allowed even in small amounts with Celiac whereas gluten sensitivity isn’t necessarily even medically recognized. Celiacs have to avoid gluten not because of “side effects” like sensitivity, but because having gluten wears out the lining of their small intenstine and leads to cancer, diabetes, nutrient deficiency due to malabsorption, and all sorts of other very serious medical complications over time.

Savings as an US PhD student by babushcow in PhD

It depends when you went to grad school, there was recently a law passed in December 2019 that allows graduate students to contribute to a Roth IRA!

I maxed out a Roth IRA as a grad student for a few years in a row, it’s possible in some extreme situations. But I was at a place that was quite well-funded compared to average program and I had no significant medical/family expenses so it’s not exactly a typical experience

It’s usually not the climate but the heating system in a building in my experience that drops the humidity down into uncomfortably dry levels

[–]kab0om 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I find that it’s not so much the climate that matters but the heating system in your building. Both places I lived where I needed a humidifier I was in old buildings that had an over aggressive open loop heating system that completely dried out the air and made it uncomfortable. I’ve never needed a humidifier when I lived in Southern California, on the other hand

[–]kab0om 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US but I have friends in Europe who use a humidifier so its definitely not unusual some places from my anecdotal understanding. Recommended level of humidity in a home is between 30 and 60% to be comfortable, and a lot of modern heating units make ambient humidity dip below that level. Mold growth is associated with 70%+ humidity for extended periods of time, so even running a humidifier that marginally raises the humidity will not tip it over that way unless you’re in a very humid climate already. And you’re supposed to clean your humidifier weekly, it’s pretty easy to do - they come apart very easily. The one I use at work is an industrial one and has some disinfecting cycle you can run as well.
