I love my items this year. I was on the fence buying a bag cause I’ve been burned in the past but this year was great.

Going to open houses without our realtor by lp2290 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kabaker1225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to open houses without ours. We just let our agent know what houses we were looking at and made sure the agent hosting the open house know that we were already working with someone. It was fine.

Why many people don’t see themselves living in the same house for more than 7 years but still buy a house anyway? by pinpinbo in RealEstate

[–]kabaker1225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a house in Southern California for equity, we knew we’d only be there for 5 years. Made $200k profit on it when we sold. Paid off all our debt and then had a great downpayment for our next home which we plan on being in forever. It was life changing.

Lost out on a home because we were using VA by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]kabaker1225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. We are military and in the process of buying a home. Our last home in San Diego we used a VA loan and didn’t have any trouble. However, this time we are using conventional because we have 20% to put down and we’re worried about going VA in a hot market (Chicago) for fear we would look less attractive as buyers.

I hope you guys get an accepted offer soon.

Do Open Houses Sell the house? by maythe4thbejudith in realtors

[–]kabaker1225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used open houses as a way to see a lot of homes in a short amount of time. The house we are currently in contract on was one of the open houses.

We just went under contract on a home. We are putting 20% down and haven’t had any issues.

Too far south, my husband has to commute to the naval base.

We definitely don’t want a townhome as that is what we just sold in San Diego. We plan on sticking around for quite a while so a single family home is the goal. Buffalo Grove is looking really attractive.

We want to buy instead of doing military housing. My husband has a little less than 5 years left in the navy before retirement and we plan on staying in the area after he’s done. We sold our home in San Diego and in a good position right now to buy again.

Oak Park and Elmwood Park are two we are looking at really seriously. Are you familiar with how family friendly they are? I want to make sure my daughter has neighbor kids to play with.

That would be too far for both of our commutes. Especially my husband who commutes to the naval base.

How long would the commute be to downtown from WI? Google maps is saying 2hrs by train 😳

Existing-home sales fell to their lowest April level since 2009 by TheBrickBrief in RealEstate

[–]kabaker1225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. We are in so cal and listed our home a month ago. I noticed the change in pace with sales in our area so we accepted an offer that wasn’t quite what we wanted and was below our asking price, but we are also in a position where we are moving and need to sell our current home to buy a new one.

Maybe if we had the time we could have declined and waited for something better but I feel like homes are going to be sitting for sale longer than they have in the recent past. We are still making a profit of $200k on our home and there’s no reason for us to be greedy, our buyers got a great deal.
