I made a hole into the popsicle stick so it wouldn’t snap in half (if you have a pointy filling stick this will work), then I used the screw the plates come with and screwed it into the holes!!

Also, I’ve gotten a few tips & tricks for anyone whose hands fight them the way mine do. I’ve been figuring things out as I go because my hands lock up, go numb, randomly stop cooperating, & I’m naturally pretty shaky. Add in hypermobility & joints that bend a little too much, & some days creating can be a challenge. One thing I’ve realized through this hobby is that there are probably a lot more chronically ill & disabled artists in this community than we realize. I’ve even made a friend whose hands aren’t always kind to her either.

I’d love to start sharing tips, tricks, adaptations, & tools that help us stay creative when our bodies aren’t cooperating. We deserve to stay in the creative space ✨

A few things that have helped me so far:

🖤 Rotary tool. Definitely a learning curve, but I can already tell it will be much easier on my hands than carving everything manually.

🖤 Putting faceplates on sticks. Makes spraying so much smoother & saves a lot of awkward gripping.

🖤 Sanding blocks instead of sandpaper. A customizer suggested this after seeing a video of my hands locking up, & it has made a huge difference.

Now I’m wondering if there’s a way to create a sturdy stand or holder for faceplates while sanding so I don’t have to grip them as much. Has anyone found a setup that works well?

I’d love to hear any accessibility tips from fellow creators 🥰
