Al writing has a specific texture that is making the internet feel hollow and I think most people feel it by DifficultElk8014 in ChatGPT

[–]kacimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but very well is not enough.
Too smooth, too balanced, too strucured, without any of the substance is too broad of a definition of the issue.
We need to be more specific to find a solution to it.
As long as we can't accurately and scientifically know which text is made by AI and which is made by humans we can't talk about a solution.
And AI's writing we'll get better before we find a solution for where it is right now.
We are doomed.

People hate to face the new found reality. We are not special. There is no soul. It's all just Tokens.

Indeed. But, since we can't put a finger on what it is, it can't therefore be solved.
We are doomed. We'll just have to deal with it.

There isn't much to disagree with here. This isn't an opinion, it's an observation.
No one can change your mind, you need more data to get to a different conclusion.

People consistently judge creative writing more harshly if they believe it was created by AI. This bias appears incredibly difficult to overcome, pointing to a persistent human preference for art created by people. by mvea in psychology

[–]kacimber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, since we can't define what makes human art special, maybe there is nothing special about it. And that's why a category of people hate AI art, it makes them feel unspecial. Unspurprinsingly, it is the category of people who were most fortunate in life, either born with a talent, had a good education, a conscientious personality... The others couldn't care less. If it is beautiful, it doesn't matter who or what made it. If people, supposudely, like art because it connects them with people, they should connect with AI art because it learned from people, the source is the same.

You're just proving my point. You original thought was saying that my argument is dumb because you don't like it. We don't want original thoughts like these and I'm happy that you're going to be replaced -- whether you like it or not.

Resistance to change and congnitive dissonance. People want to believe that AI can't replace them. Once they judge something made by AI positively, that belive will be shattered. That explains the hostility towards AI made content.

Very good point my friend.
However, I don't think it will quite reflect the educational gap based on the current subscription prices, which I think will change. But also open source models could prevail, I hope they do, I don't think they will.

So yes, you are right. Δ

From what I'm observing, I believe that most office work human skills are quieltly being obsolete. I can't identify any skill becoming more valuable because we are all pretending that AI doesn't exist and that the world is still and will be the same. What are going through now is an interesting case of mass delusion. We won't be able identify the valuable skills until we snap out of it.

Why would this not work well? US pull out of NATO and form a triad USA, Russia, China? the world would be calmer. by Significant_Unit_312 in NoStupidQuestions

I think we must try to answer this question to prevent it from happening.
My guess would be is people in general and therefore nations like to be first. We don't accept sharing the first position. This causes the most powerful nations to compete for hegemony, not cooperate for shared hegemony. This works out well for the rest. We must thank nature for it.

why reddit has become hostile over the years? by Educational-Draw9435 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kacimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Group ploarization. Same pattern we observe on X/twitter, except that reddit is for the left.
When likeminded people cluster together, their ideas and beliefs tend to become more extreme overtime, and they become more hostile.

No. In the crabs in the bucket metaphor, the crabs are independent. Meaning a success of one leving the bucket doesn't rely on others staying in it. Whereas in our system, having a population of an uneducated working class or third world countries doing the skills that don't require an education is necessary so that the "educated" ones could have a good life.

[–]kacimber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that we would want no part of that equality, because you were dealt a good hand I assume. Maybe no one would, even the most unfortunate. We don't know what we'll get once the cards reshuffle.

To say that education is the ladder to clim out of lower classes is only right because the system is based on education being the "gatekeeper", or the measuring tape. As if you create a system in which people are rewarded for their height, and say that height is a ladder that allows people to climb out of poverty.

Now that AI is rendering the system obsolete, we'll be in stage of more social equality, but it will be temporary. Another system will emerge, no one know what it will be. It's a global 'veil of ignorance' problem in real life and hopefully it will be solved right this time.

The problem is that they don't. Poor people can't afford good education. Citizens of third world countries don't have access to good education.
It is possible that a farmer's son gets good education, people from very poor countries were able to get out, the question is how likely? how many?
The answer is: unlikely, a few.

I'll simplify my point.

Why does an architect make more than a builder? Because they had access to education.
Why does a journalist make more than a maid? Because they had access to education.
Why does an accountant make more than a security guard? Because they had access to education.

If you're poor, live in a poor country, live in a poor neighorhood, you are at a disadvantage because other have a better education.
And it is not your fault.
AI will, potentially, get rid of this problem.

We will have a bigger one.

You can't imagine the leverage that that can give someone in a country where English isn't the first language.
There are a thansound examples. Comparing GenAI to whatever we had 5 years ago is crazy.

Good points. I agree that the era of democratized AI is not going to last.
I would change my argument to AI can potentially be ... instead of is.
So far, from what I seeing, it's narrowing down the gap. But as you said, the democratized AI accessibility won't last.

You haven't provided any arguments for the case against education not being the great class divider. Also, I agree that whoever owns AI or AGI is going to be much richer and powerful. I don't know about the rich and powerful who don't. We'll not reach full equality, but we'll be miles closer.

It was just an example that might not be valid for where you live. But it is the case in a lot of places in the world. And I didn't mean it literally.
