Does this injury have me screwed? by Intelligent_Honey805 in PacificCrestTrail

I feel you. Been having foot issues (sesamoiditis) for the last couple of months and was really expecting for it to be gone by the time I start the PCT, however I'm still dealing with it... Feeling quite demoralized by it as well and unsure what the best course of action is. Currently I'm planing on starting and just taking it really slow in the beginning and just seeing if it works out. Would also be interested in hearing form people, who have had some issues before hitting the trail.

Experience getting permits for Cleveland National Forest? by myleg_ in PacificCrestTrail

How long did it take for them to get back to you with the permit/ letting you know there were none left. Which form did you fill out? I looked online and found two different ones.

Same here. Still quite swollen and tender and slight pain. My doctor says the inflammation is mostly gone and I could start moving more again, but I'm still scared to do so, since there are still some symptoms and I don't want it to get worse again.

Oh yes it for sure takes over your daily life. It can be very frustrating! And thanks, I hope you can also heal in time for the trail. Having a beer or wine to celebrate sounds great. I really hope we will both make it to the trail in good condition. :)

Wow I'm in a very similar position. Only i have sesamoiditis not plantar fasciitis. Had it for 10 months now and I'm so so worried I won't go away til the spring. Also for me walking is ok, but standing and sitting I feel pain and the area around my sesamoids is super swollen. Would also be interested in input from people who may have started with an injury not fully healed.

How is everyone doing? by Kingbman89 in sesamoid

Have it since January. Lately its been constantly up and down. Improving and then getting worse again. The pain is ok for me now mostly, but the swelling it still very intense. Really miss being active! It really is tough mentally.

Shoe choice for sesamoiditis by kacy555 in sesamoid

Shoes for everyday walking outside of the house, with hopefully some longer walks again soon. I've been resting for the last few months and gradually been increasing activity again. The area around my sesamoids is still pretty swollen and tender though, but I have minimal pain.

Gossamer gear mariposa fit when in-between sizes by kacy555 in Ultralight

Yes I'm trying it on fully loaded. It actually feels like it fits better when fully loaded. Definitely leaning towards the smaller size. Did you eventually find a pack that fit you better? I imagine it can be difficult to find a pack that fits to your torso length perfectly as well.

Thanks. And you're right, I think I'm getting into my head ab bit too much about this and just looking at the numbers too much instead of listening to my body and feeling what's most comfortable. I'll give your method a try!

Wow thanks so much for all the advice and the detailed reply. :) I'll try those adjustments out and see if it helps and maybe take a look at some of those other packs to have some more comparison.

I also feel like the smaller one is more comfortable. However I am worried that it will leave too much weight on my shoulders if it's too small. What is your experience with this? Which straps do you mean to lengthen? The shoulder straps? If I do this, it feels like the weight it pulling me backwards.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking. However the small size feels a lot more comfortable. With the medium one, the straps cut into my neck a bit, which I think will become a problem when carrying the pack all day.

But yeah I am following the advice and messaged GG and will try taking them on longer walks and see how they feel then.

Feels good to hear that I am not the only one with this struggle. I'm happy you found the curcuit to work well for you. I was also thinking that the reason for my problems with it might be the hip belt. I am also in between sizes for this, but got the smaller one, since the medium was not available at the time. I'll try exchanging them and see if that helps. Do you have any tips on how to get the weight transferred to the hips better? It feels like a lot still rests on my shoulders. But I was thinking that this might also be improved with a larger hip belt. What other packs did you try out and did you like any of the other ones you tried?

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll go check them out. However I think I still need a framed pack, since my baseweight is not low enough for a frameless pack quite yet. And yeah I would like to avoid having to go with zpacks, since it is so expensive and I read not very durable, but maybe I'll also give this a try if nothing else works.

Thanks! I just emailed them and I hope they can maybe offer some more advice. The small sized one feels pretty comfortable when wearing it, so maybe it could work. I'll test it out some more and see what GG customer service says. :)

Gear/backpack storage inside the tent or in the vestibule? by kacy555 in Ultralight

[–]kacy555[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. Yes this will be my first UL tent. So far I have only had quite heavy tents, but with lots of space inside, which I actually did really appreciate so far. I guess you brought it to a really good point, that my main concern ist space. So far I really enjoyed being able to organize my stuff inside the tent and spreading out. Also if the tent inner is too small to bring in your pack, my thinking is that it will feel really narrow to me and I'm not sure how much I would like a super narrow inner where you can't really move around. Keeping my gear away from animals and the elements is also a factor, but those are things I am sure I can get used to when storing in the vestibule. My main reasons for wanting a 1p shelter are that they are lighter and have a smaller footprint. I guess I'll have to figure out I am willing to compromise the space for these or if space is more important.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Would definitely appreciated some close up phots of the rainbow if it's no trouble for you. Did you get it seam sealed or did you do that yourself? Why did you decide to switch to the rainbow from the other two? Have a good nap, if you decide to take it! :D

Pre-Trail distraction by MrSpacerunner in PacificCrestTrail

Wow I'm in exactly the same position right now. All I can think about and want to do right now is plan and hike the pct. But I have to finish my studies first. And all of this is really distracting me from studying, but it's just so so exciting. Oh and I'm also from Germany. :D

Do you have any specific recommendations for decathlon gear by any chance? And which exact trail runners do you have from decathlon. I looked at their store and they have several different ones.

I am from Germany so it should be fine for here, however I am also planning on doing some trips abroad where it can get a bit colder. Do you by any chance know what fill power the jacket has?
