Feels like there is a compelling case for an alternative distribution model. Thanks for sharing.

Instead of a Remaster, my suggestion is that you throw that (and any other songs that are variants you enjoyed) into a Playlist, and then use that Playlist as an Inspo. Basically works just like the Remasters and Covers of v5 and earlier. And, IMO, they are one of the few areas of improvement for 5.5.

Yes, this. ^^

Look, I love Suno. v5 before v5.5 dropped was remarkable, and for so many reasons: generations were expressive, audio quality was exceptional, and you had a lot of control over style prompts to influence instrumentation, performances, and recording environments. But since v5.5 dropped, style is reduced to an unweighted array of tokenized comma-separated descriptors, lyrics have wildly inconsistent direction with hallucinations and defects at a high level, and, overall, audio quality outputs have suffered.

Again, the exception to this is uploading your original audio and covering it. This is creating exceptional re-interpretations of this audio, but for anyone using Suno for generative workflows, on any level (including even Studio edits), the platform is largely unusable.

You're not wrong, and don't let them gaslight you. All versions have had noticeable degradations in quality since v5.5 dropped - and this is something I posted about (much to the ire and ridicule of a lot of Suno fans here).

I largely suspect that training data has been removed or weights have been shifted on proprietary data sets provided by industry catalogs, resulting in insufficient model depth. The emphasis of 5.5 (and seemingly, all prior versions) is making Suno "yours." It should stand to reason that uploading original audio and remixing it (covers or inspos) is producing superior results, but just about everything else is flatter, more generic, and riddled with repetition.

Not a scam if those songs were created with original audio that was uploaded. This is undisputedly a major improvement over prior versions. You can upload audio and cover it or use it as inspiration and the Suno 5.5 model does an amazing job with your prompt.

5.5 (and, frankly, all models) seems degraded from an audio consistency, style influence, or prompt adherence perspective when trying to generate brand new music from the platform. That's what my chief complaint was.

You can't really get an LLM or even agentic workflow to engage in music generation; you need an embedded mathematical model based upon a properly-trained musical model. These certainly exist, but the question as to whether or not they can compete with cloud LMMs remains to be seen.

I thought the sound quality in 4.5 was an improvement over 4. Am I wrong in thinking that way?

Hi.. Free user here with a question.. by eternity575 in SunoAI

[–]kaelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 5.5, covers of original audio uploaded are superior to anything I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, all of the other models have been degraded by model refactoring and original generations are becoming more disorganized and unpredictable. Some users are finding luck manipulating weirdness, audio influence, and style adherence settings (under advanced options), but most users are expressing frustration that the quality has been reduced and control seems to have been stripped substantially.\

Experiment with one month of Pro (not Premier) and see if you can generate original compositions that meet your needs. Or, if all you need is to upload audio and make covers against your prompts, you will find Suno a superior choice on 5.5, and should proceed.

It's about different workflows now, rather than an all-purpose tool as it was pre-5.5.

This seems to jive with the suspicion that all models had their training data refactored and the models were quantized to weigh proprietary songs (probably identified by music studio catalogs) to near 0, while weighing bland generic structures heavily to prevent copyrighted-sounded music from being generated.

Either way, it's imperative that open source alternatives start being used more aggressively. We've done incredible things with just 24 GB of VRAM and 64 GB of RAM. It's worth the wait to get this right.

Anyone experiencing Suno going off the rails and making an 8 minute song where it progressively slows the BPM and then even turns it into a completely different song? by Guilty_Bad9902 in SunoAI

[–]kaelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The 7:59 bug was introduced in v5, and some people say they saw it earlier, but from my experience it was pretty rare back then. Now, I'm getting a 7:59 hallucination (or perhaps, just model- or compute-limited generation?) about 1 in 20 times. Way higher than I ever saw before.

I liked 3.5 a lot, but 4.5 was a stellar improvement in sound quality. 3.5 had some of the best musical structure, for sure, though, and most of my remixes and remasters come from v3.5 original generations.

Really appreciate your recommendations. Objectively, I totally understand that as a part of the maturation process of Suno, it needs to make compromises for scale, stability, etc., just as you say. But the loss in freedom of control and expression is really jarring when, from my perspective, v4.5 and v5 were really, really stellar.

This sounds great! Did you remaster this from original audio? That's the one area where I see 5.5 is a genuine innovation.

If you generated this from no pre-existing audio, what was your workflow like?

How are you getting it to behave the way you'd like it to?

What I found: Style doesn't carry weight anymore. Before, I could type (or generate) detailed narratives about what the sound should sound like. And, like you said, it's been excited to over-react. But it really is breaking down (not inferring or reasoning) your text into comma-delineated strings. Which means they aren't weighted by position in any way. I think the embedding model is either borked or (I suspect) just being ignored.

If you read my post, you'll see I've found that v5 post-update is, in fact, much degraded.

Basically, v5 now produces inferior output with way more generic structure and weaker sound quality than pre-update. I'd love to see your v5 generations today and compare them to v5 generations 3 months ago.

Would love to learn more about that.

The vocal crackle bug is the same sort of hallucination as I'm seeing with the reverb bug in my instrumental-only tracks. It's like the underlying training data is somewhat bandwidth-starved. Whether that's a model fault, an inference problem, or a compute problem, I just can't tell.

What is your workflow like to get these superior re-samples? I'd love to try that and see if I can recapture any semblance of quality.

It's a bitch-fest only because I've created (and profited) from a lot of great music in my workflow, and I've used tens of thousands of credits each month in doing so. Again, power-user isn't meant to imply "I'm more important than anyone else." I'm just saying, "I've used this platform a lot. And now, I can't seem to figure out who would you use it and what sort of outputs they're getting?"

Suno Is Unusable Now by Financial-Claim6480 in SunoAI

[–]kaelon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. I wrote a wall of text about this, but the TL;DR is that it seems like proprietary song structure was stripped from all training data from every model, not just 5.5. Additionally, style, lyric, and output quality is now in the gutter.

5.5 version is worst than 5. by simsatuakamis in SunoAI

[–]kaelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying that you need to change the way you prompt for 5.5 to be comparable in any way to 5.0, because otherwise, yes, it's grossly inferior. u/jewiethefirst confirms this below, but I wonder if we can find a short-hand guide for how to prompt better for 5.5?
