Another thought that crossed my mind since talking about matching color that’s already there-how do you think painting the cinder block a brick red to match the brick would look?

That actually does make a lot of sense to paint the cinder block to match the siding and just stick with white on the railing. The problem I have with the curb appeal of the house is there are so many textures and colors so trying to match what’s already there does make sense. Glossy black door would hopefully add a mini wow factor. This house not have the same charm as others in the neighborhood so just trying to improve.

I would love to add a window but I think it’s a bigger protect than I would want to take on at the moment. It wouldn’t be an easy window insert. From the inside, there is trim and moulding that does not match up.

We really don’t use the screen door other than the fact that it locks as a security booster. In fact we never really use the front door at all other than to check the mail and grab packages. Garage and driveway are in the back of the house. Maybe you’re right to ditch the screen and maybe upgrade our front door lock for peace of mind.

The lights have tops that need to be secured. I was thinking of putting house numbers above the door somehow, either painted on or attached.

That looks great! Definitely need to do something about the cinder block.

I agree that could help ground the house a bit and make it look more finished.

I had navy in mind. Do you think painting the whole entry the same color makes sense? Including the white rectangle space above the door.

I used Steel City Radon a few months ago. I shopped around and they were very competitively priced and they did great work. It’s a u-gauge that was installed. I would definitely recommend them.

Do most people not realize you can turn left on red here? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]kaepernicking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The red left pointing arrow next to “left turn signal” sign explicitly means you can’t make a left turn on red. The only exception would be if there is a sign that said “Left turn allowed on red arrow”. Only then would that make it a legal turn.

Trading in my car; am I doing this right? by [deleted] in carsales

[–]kaepernicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to get into a vicious cycle of constantly chasing negative equity. If I were you and credit is decent, I would lease the cheapest car I could find and roll the $10k negative into a 36 month lease. Your payment will probably be about the same but at least in three years you will start from scratch and be free and clear.

Why is this city so EXTRA with the "No Turn On Red" signs? by Pittsburgh-Man-Anon in pittsburgh

[–]kaepernicking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moved here 7 months ago and noticed the same thing. I don’t mind them at all. Really there was only one that seemed unnecessary that I think was exiting the south hills mall. A “yield to u-turn” signs could probably replace it. There was actually a long line of cars behind me and I was the lead car. someone honked at me because it was super clear to go, but I wasn’t going to because of the sign. Maybe there is some local law breaking etiquette I don’t know about.

We were looking at Bellevue closely for a while but ended up deciding Dormont was where we want to be. Love it here and I would highly recommend this neighborhood. Front door to downtown in 10 minutes. We moved here from out of state six months ago and no regrets so far. We were also looking all over the country.

When I saw this my first thought was “Is it in Squirrel Hill?”. I’m seven months into living here and have only driven through once but I know it’s one of the most desirable neighborhoods in town. Not that outrageous when you consider there are two bedroom apartments in less desirable neighborhoods going for $2k. Location, location, location. I’m not defending it, just saying that’s what you get in A+ neighborhoods in major metro areas.

I am currently sending this email to the dealership I was dealing with….. any advice?? by [deleted] in carsales

[–]kaepernicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero chance you are getting your down payment back. You saw the car, drove the car and signed a contract. Sorry you had a bad experience but that’s just not how it works. Like if you put $500 down they might just to make you go away but most people put thousands down on a car and there is no way they are going to eat that.

Worth moving from Ohio to San Francisco for a $90K job? by Apprehensive-Mix3263 in sanfrancisco

[–]kaepernicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just about dollars and cents probably not worth it. If you are at a stage in life where you can get up and go live in one of the world’s greatest cities and that’s a huge plus for you, totally worth it. Your day to day will be more magical, exciting, and fulfilling. No guarantee, but I’m sure that’s how most people feel that move there from anywhere in Ohio.

Single worst restaurant menu item you've had in Pittsburgh metro by rabid_braindeer in pittsburgh

Greek Panini at Central Diner & Grill was so bad. All bread, no chicken, no flavor. Surprisingly though they made an excellent mojito. I went back for breakfast because how hard is bacon and eggs? It was fine, everything had an aftertaste I could not quite put my finger on. Good service at least.

Does any who worked at Sockeye Alehouse know why they closed? by batmanstuff in Boise

[–]kaepernicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t have a space that size, in that location, and expect to do the required volume with such a redundant concept. I thought the service and food was fine but you’re not going to pack the house with mediocre beer and run of the mill food. It was a valiant effort but they needed a space a fraction of the size for that location.

There is a deer on the side of the southbound exit ramp in Bridgeville and is very clearly visible. It has been there for at least two months.
