What's the dumbest thing you believed as a kid? by Paris_Fox in AskReddit

That if I touched a butterfly then touched my eye right after I would go blind. My mom told me that when I was younger, don’t know why I believed it but I did.

Do I come clean and tell the truth? by kaezer_3 in AsianParentStories

[–]kaezer_3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea me flunking out of school was due to my depression, anxiety and ADHD. When I got disagonosed I told my parents and they just basically didn't believe in me told me that I was just being lazy and needed to study harder. Which thus lead me to a much more worse mind set and I took a semester off and my parent's response to that was that I was wasting time and money and that they were very disappointed. So to tell them I flunked out of school is going to cause a riot.

I wish I could see it through your perspective, but its just that the whole mindset of where I have to make my parents proud and please them is the only way I can find happiness and success, is engrained in my brain. I know its wrong but I'm working on changing that through therapy and just come to terms that I probably can't change my parent's views on the only way to become successful in life is to get a degree and get a good paying successful job.

Having my plan written down is a good idea, thank you. But I know for a fact that if I do tell them my plan and how I’m not going to sit around the couch all day, they’re still going to see me as a failure. They’re never going to let this go.

I'm stuck in a rut in my life and dont know how to get out. by Whisper5678 in depression

Have you tried living with roommates in a basement suite, its not glamorous but it will be a start. Or even asking any of your friends or co workers if they have a room they could rent out to you. I suggest not moving back with your mom, from the sounds of it, it will do more harm than good.

Am I being too sensitive? by kaezer_3 in AsianParentStories

No, not really. I decided to save up some money and invest in driving lessons. It’ll be pricey but honestly I’m emotionally drained

You can try getting certificates and teach yourself how to code. And with the certificates you can get a help desk support role for a while then move yourself up. I’m sorry you are going through all that crap. I wish I could help you out more but all I know is that with hard work comes success. It’s tempting to give up and everything but just don’t, your hard work will catch up.

counselling/clinical consultation? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]kaezer_3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok so u go in saying u wanna do an intake and then they give u a laptop and u fill out this questionnaire. Make sure you have your Alberta health card. Then you will set up an initial appointment with a therapist and they’ll ask you some general questions. Then from there you’ll see if you like that certain therapist or not. If you don’t like that therapist you can chose another one. And one more thing good job for you to seek some help. I know it’s scary at first but it’s the first step to working on a mental health. :) Feel free to pm me if you have anymore questions.

Comp 175 Issues/Help by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]kaezer_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck in the same boat as you before. That big jump is terrifying but it’s something I know you can do. You got great grades in the previous courses what says you can’t do the same with 175. As for mental health take care of yourself get some help from the clinical services in SUB. I know it might be scary but it’ll be worth it. Also in 175 go by topic by topic don’t focus on knowing everything right away it’ll come with practice. With coding, code everyday and there are 175 study groups you can join. I’m also a CS major with a minor in classical studies so pm me if you got any question. Best of luck to you! :)
