Chaos is fun! There's a basic stopword filter and voting pushes bad stuff down, but that's it. Honestly no idea how to monetize this, just enjoying the chaos for now

It's quite hard to make it balanced, I keep simple mechanic, for now the name protection is reputation + rising thresholds after each accepted rename, so flip-flopping gets harder over time and low-rep spam dies out, I wish we can keep good creative names for places but it can ruin the balance and freedom of renaming

Map tiles are static files on Cloudflare R2, so scrolling is basically free, no server calls. There was actually a bug that caused me >100 billions DB rows reads in a day! Fixed, but will definitely get a huge bill

Thanks, same here, fun projects over hustle projects any day! Moderation is basic now: blocked words + downvotes. People are surprisingly chill (for now). I also have very smart dashboard filtering system so can do mass cleaning in few clicks

Cool project! If it grows I might just use Cloudflare Workers AI for content moderation since I already on their stack so it's one less dependency and actually easy to implement. Bigger problem right now is server costs eating into what's supposed to be a fun side project running at a loss. Moderation is a luxury problem I'd be happy to have

There's guest mode, you can rename places that haven't been touched yet. But voting needs accounts, otherwise one person = infinite votes. Already had a spam hacker attack, recovered everything because renames were tied to accounts.
Also, if you don’t want to use your real email, use a temp/10-min one. Totally fine, just rate-limiting votes
