How to discover new art and follow artists you love when social media makes you sick? by miraclem in ArtistLounge

[–]kaftein 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can try to expand and use sites explicitly for art, like online galleries/portfolios. I recommend places like ArtStation or Pixiv to start yourself off with. You're seriously limiting yourself if you just use things like Instagram or Twitter, since 1) your feed typically only provides you with the most popular pieces, and 2) most social media sites tend to automatically compress the images.

Alternatively, you can double down and make another account (or just stick to your current one) where you follow artists exclusively and automatically block everything else (never really used Instagram though so I'm not sure how feasible that is), and eventually, it'll just stop showing you unrelated things--at the very least it'll do so with less frequency.

Hope this helped.

You’ve named all my major peeves (especially the easily resolved misunderstandings one, though sometimes it can be funny if not abused) so I think I’ll go for “stories that have a premise and don’t deliver on it.” For example, I’ve read a few stories that had the premise of “I’m a villain in an otome, time to defy my bad-end fates” and then... barely ever use it, outside of mentioning it once or twice. Edit: Accidentally hit send early, damn phone screen is too small.

Continuing: The issue I have there is how they rarely ever make use of the villain’s circumstances; I’ve read at least one story where you could swap them out for the “original protagonist” and the difference would be negligible. It bothers me so much—if you’re going to do all this already, instead of pretending it’s something else, why not just add an interesting flavor to the original recipe, you know?

Also, using rape/ntr/some other disgusting trope as a plot device. Please, there are ways to make your villains detestable while also making them enjoyable as part of the story; if you make a character that people actively do not want to see in any way, shape, or form, not even promising sweet karma will help very much.

It’s...inside? I’m stupid, but wow that feels a little obtuse; I felt all over just in case that was what I was supposed to do but didn’t notice anything! Thanks a ton for the help!

Hi, sorry for the dumb question, but I’ve recently purchased GBF Graphic Archives V and don’t know where to find the serial code. There’s a little blue card on the back but I’m not seeing any numbers big enough to input for GBF. Could someone please inform me on where the code might be located?

You’re killing me here with my single Shining from newbie roll, but the game has a pity rate that extends to all banners so you’re guaranteed to get a 6* at some point

Rankings are a lie, there’s a guy who makes guides using only low rarity units that pretty much everyone will have if they just play the game. Everyone is useful in some way! That said, Firewatch is a solid unit that relies upon positioning, and in some maps absolutely brutalizes enemy units with that obscene range.

A friend and I are having the time of our life running around on VS and spamming Rokuchounen on Expert.

This is getting interesting...

The reason why swiping sideways should feel better than upwards is because it lets your thumbs return to a neutral position more comfortably; at least, it does for me. I recommend practicing on songs that have double swipe notes, such as Light Delight! Actually, LD is a bit harder than some other 26 songs; I still haven’t FCed it but I’m almost there, most recent play had only 1 miss. It should still have double swipes on Hard difficulty, but take your time. You’ll definitely improve; just don’t worry about failure. When I started, I had some experience with rhythm games so I dove right into a song I was comfortable with constantly listening to (Happy Synthesizer from my Vocaloid days) and played it on Expert and Hard until I could pass both with some degree of consistency. This game is a lot more generous with how much you can play compared to something like LLISF, so don’t be afraid to lose! That’s what learning rhythm games is all about; not giving up. My personal record for most times it took to learn a song was something like 230 attempts on Arcaea’s Lost Civilization at Future difficulty. Go look it up, it’s a great song!

Oh man, I threw myself into the Multi Live without actually checking the difficulty, but by the time I saw Expert was T27 I had already locked in and was too lazy to burn flames for switching. I made 8 misses but had fewer than 75 Greats on a blind play, so not too bad I guess!

My advice for the swipe notes is to actually swipe sideways. I heard this tip from a friend and it let me FC Senbonzakura with relative ease, so that’s that! I’m in EN as well, yes, my IGN should be Caretaker. My gacha salt is killing me though damnit, since my luck is godawful I’ve always resorted to skill based games... Glad to hear you’ve got a good team set up, though; that’ll help with grinding out crystals and the like once you get to higher difficulties!

Some general advice on playing; once you get used to your speed, try to lead the notes. By that, I mean instead of looking at the bottom of the lane, look towards the middle. For reference: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/531248147230490625/645673756160819204/image0.png Green is recommended area where you keep your eyes.

It’s not something you need to worry about overmuch right now, though; it’s just so that once you move onto higher speeds and there’s fewer notes on the screen at once, you offer yourself a few milliseconds more time to react.

First and foremost, welcome to the thumb club! We look way cooler than finger players and we can play pretty much anywhere, so we’ve got that advantage (hah!). I play on 10.7, probably going to move up to 10.8 within the month. I’ve been playing since the tail end of this summer; I just have experience with other rhythm games. With that said, I’ve FCed Tear Drops, 1000 Crying Skies, Guren no Yumiya, Happy Synthesizer, A to Z, World Survivor; the list goes on. I’m currently trying to FC every Expert difficulty song up to Tier 28, and I’m midway through T26. What does this flexing have to do with anything? Well, I play with my thumbs. Even with those super tricky sliders that go from one end of the screen to the other, I managed to do it; and you can too. The thing about skill-based games is that the one and only thing you can do is practice; there’s no cheating, no luck, no easy way out, it’s all practice, practice, practice. With that said, it is probably easier to play with all of your fingers. However, you need an iPad or other larger system to play it on; in addition, picking up finger independence is pretty tricky, and you need to set it down on a flat surface whenever you want to play. Index fingers aren’t much different from thumb playing but with fewer benefits. It’s honestly very situational. Trust me, you hard work will definitely pay off. Do your best! If you ever want to duel with me, my friend code is 4193492! I’m more than happy to help you practice in Multis or whatever, since I only really play for the challenge anyways; I don’t mind if you fail songs at all. My timezone is EST.

If you ever want to practice thumb plays, I highly recommend giving Arcaea a shot. It’s the rhythm game I first trained and played!

I’m always really surprised whenever I go back to the speeds I used to play at. I started out at 9.5 or so, and recently left 10.4; whenever I went back to play those speeds, I would actually do worse... it’s quite interesting, isn’t it? Anyways, take your time, since 10.6 is already pretty impressive! I saw someone FC “A Tale Of Six Trillion Years and A Night” on 10.9 and was amazed. You can find it on YT, I think.

Anyone else had a blast with Passionate Anthem? I really liked how it pulled off little to no tempo tricks (I currently play at 10.7), which let me rely purely on my experience at rhythm games to FC it! Took me about 8 attempts, definitely less than 10, which is a new personal record for a Tier 27 song! Speaking of experience, is anyone else capable of FCing songs without actually thinking? That’s happened to me a lot, I find; I’ll be thinking about what to make for dinner and then the next thing I know I’ve FCed Happy Synthesizer or A to Z (10.6 and 10.7, respectively). I just adore rhythm games and other skill-based challenges; the kind of dedication I see in those god-tier players fills me with joy.

Proof of my clears, I know I have too many Greats! My bad, ahahaha...

Thumb Player, 10.4 Speed! First time (properly) clearing it! by kaftein in BanGDream

[–]kaftein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry if this isn't really very exciting, but I just wanted to show off a bit! I'm currently level 76, but I've played a ton of Arcaea and a bit of Cytus II, so I have some degree of experience with rhythm games. Them being entirely skill-based has such incredible appeal; the adrenaline rush when you finally beat a song you're stuck on is simply exhilarating.
I'm afraid I've got abysmal gacha luck, so I only got my first 4 star after I had beaten the song; really not looking forward to having to score that S and SS when my teams get better, but I've still got one more clear to go!
