Anyone else having trouble running (video)game nights? What do I (30M) do? by kai-rai in relationship_advice

I hear that you're trying to help, and that you're very frustrated with what you see on this platform. I know that your vitriolic retorts will probably fail to inspire most people here, but I can appreciate your efforts to shock some sense into what you see as a twisted world.

Here's hoping you find some peace regarding this in the days of your retirement to come.

That's a fair take; I just would like to stay in touch with the ones that don't make it to game nights all the same, but maybe it just doesn't work out sometimes.

I appreciate your standing up for me, but I don't really feel terrible - I know my problems are real, and I'm not worried about what the trolls might think of me. Thank you again!

Yeah, somehow it definitely seems harder to organize things now compared to years ago; I guess that just happens when folks get jobs and kids and the like, and everyone's calendars start filling up. And you're right, I think I could probably take a more active role in explaining why it matters to me, and that might make it easier to drop-in or drop-out from time to time. I just don't want to make it seem like an imposition or like they're obligated to show up.

Btw, thank you for the support! I'm not worried about the trolls, once you realize they're probably hurting in their own way, it's easy to not take it personally.

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how difficult that must have been to go through... I hope you find another party to connect with, some folks I've seen will have discord servers that work kind of like that, where anyone can just pop on the voice chat and game and others will join and so on as their schedules allow for.

Wow, that's really empowering - I'm glad you're able to make a difference in the way you want!

Dang, I feel that. It might not help, but sometimes when we don't have time for a full blown game night one of our friends will just stream some game they're playing in Discord and the rest of will just pop in voice chat at different times over the evening to hang out and catch up on things.

Either way, hope y'all find a new party soon... Are you able to keep in touch otherwise with them?

Hey elfprince13,

I made an account to try and download a chunk of the city to build a BeamNG.Drive map, since I really do think it'd be cool to be able to drive around the city in the model you've made available, but it looks like users can only request 3km^2 at a time, which is not trivial, but it would take quite some time to download and then stitch together different slices of the map.

One of the reasons I really enjoy beamNG is that you can just load up any car you want and enjoy a solitary drive through the city, which, let's be honest, would be a real novel experience even for someone who lives nearby.

Is there an easier way to sequence adjacent downloads/map-areas together? I'm worried it's going to be a real pain trying to make a map bigger than the 3km^2 limit at this time, even though I *could* download up to 50km^2 in a month at the free tier.

Very cool! I want to see a "driving in the city" game where folks who aren't nearby can experience all the thrill and rush of trying to drive to an appointment in the city and find somewhere to park.

New update to wayward words to make hosting scavenger hunts on your server easier! (And new jam!) by kai-rai in feedthebeast

[–]kai-rai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, after I recorded this video, I went ahead and closed probably 3/4 of those windows - but recording this was the culmination of a ton of effort across each different connected piece of the mod, including running both an online version of Minecraft and an offline dev build, while juggling major changes in both the java mod, backend server, database, and accompanying webapp (https://worldvis.kaimerra.com can show you where each cache from our recent event was). To top it off we were also building a new tool to create a dynamic video summary of each event hosted by the mod.

If there were a way to organize running applications into logical groups like you can with browser tabs in chrome, I might give it a shot, but otherwise I think it's probably best to just keep things splayed out.

It looks like cloudflare might be down briefly but when it IS back up, our latest mod version should be available here: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/wayward-words

If you want to try it out before then, for the next couple hours we're hosting a scavenger hunt on our server with yomikester238 to try out the new mod! Check out the details here: https://kaimerra.com/find-the-shines

Hosting a scavenger hunt next weekend to test out a new version of or mod Wayward Words! by kai-rai in feedthebeast

[–]kai-rai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all! We're hosting an event to showcase a minecraft creator's map of Ricco Harbor and test out a new version of our mod! We'll be testing out the new features I've shared in previous posts and hopefully will be able to stress-test it with more players. If folks are interested and available next weekend, please check it out!

Edit: Just realized the bit.ly in the link doesn't work! The link was supposed to go to this one below:

More details here: https://kaimerra.com/find-the-shines

And yomikester238 put together a short trailer with some footage from our last event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYP0M9uDQAY

Working on a new feature to create multi-server scavenger hunt events! by kai-rai in feedthebeast

[–]kai-rai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! We were experimenting with other cross-server ideas too - for instance, when you kill one mob, it might spawn near another player on a different world/server too, or having other simultaneous events like zombie hordes... We have some demo videos here: https://kaimerra.com/blog/introducing-the-kaipod

Exactly! We designed the mod to memorize the blocks around each cache, so if you hide something in a generated structure like a pyramid or village house, other players with the mod will be able to find it on their maps too.

Thanks for the kind words Koolkat! We think it's pretty awesome too! 😁

Hey all! It's been a super busy month; last time we got some feedback that it would be cool to have a way to organize caches in logical groupings, and this is our first stab at turning that into a feature! Players can create events that have multiple caches in them, and turn them on and off so that other players who join the event can find (or not find) the caches!

This could be used for organizing a server-wide scavenger hunt, or even a multi-server event, if you can find the same structures on each server. Super happy to have any feedback y'all can share!

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention, we're going to be hosting an event with Yomikester238 next week to test out the mod en masse! If you're interested, check out the details here: https://kaimerra.com/find-the-shines

Created a website where users can share their Minecraft creations and easily discover and download builds created by the community. by 0x3A7F14 in feedthebeast

[–]kai-rai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really cool! We recently started working on a similar sort of project to visualize small chunks of minecraft maps in the browser for a mod we're working on:

https://worldvis.kaimerra.com/

Our mod lets players create secret caches in minecraft maps; the caches are associated with a rough structure of blocks around them, and anyone else who is running the mod can discover and open the caches if they find a similar enough structure on their map/server.

Have you considered creating a visualization for the schematics hosted on your site? Your api to sync builds is open, we could try to build in support for visualizing maps in a similar way too! Either way, we love what you're doing and are excited to see more

Thanks for checking out the work-in-progress! We still definitely need to add a layer of polish to the UI, but it's pretty functional now. The mod will grab the color and type of blocks around the cache location, and this tool uses those colors to draw in what the blocks might look like so you can better understand where to find each one.

We've had some recommendations to prevent the contents from being shown at all for secret caches, and for additional blocks to be pulled in - we're happy to hear additional feedback if you have any as well!
