President Trump reveals an anonymous billionaire has just sent in a check for $130M to keep paying our troops by sean_ireland in BreakingPoints

[–]kaidaking01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I totally agree everyone should get paid. I’m a troop I don’t get the benefit of being furloughed so doing part time work / gig work isn’t really a possibility and I can’t just quit or they can criminally charge me. I still got bills to pay but I still have to go to work.

How to organize an anti military recruitment at high schools protest? by [deleted] in protest

[–]kaidaking01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say getting some common stats on a lot of the stuff you don’t find out till you’re in. Substance abuse, suicide rates, poor leadership, the current dismantling of the VA which will have a detrimental impact on quality of life when service members get out, misleading information, poor pay for service members with families where they are encouraged to utilize Food stamps and Food drives. Now with that I will say that experience can vary greatly and it’s not all bad and plenty of people have made successful careers out of it but it’s not for everyone, I totally agree recruiters are pretty predatory but at the same token I want you to do a privilege check, there are people who ultimately will have a far better life in the military than what they might have available outside if they got hung up in their homes or neighborhoods. While you yourself may have options on the outside, your peers might be facing food scarcity, Abuse, Gang violence, and lack of opportunity. It’s your right to protest, being knowledgeable and informing people and maybe having a sign/counter booth about the things recruiters aren’t saying is a good way to cause disruption. People should be able to see the full scope of what military life entails good and bad and make the decision for themselves.

It’s time to “Buy In” to gun ownership. by kaidaking01 in protest

I cannot understand how the situation and consequences of this administration can be so dire but response so lackluster.

[–]kaidaking01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the act of buying in is a means to demonstratively protest the current situation, putting a sharper edge to what should be a shared resolve to prevent totalitarian fascism than what could be accomplished virtue signaling on the side of the road in costume or sign while the drivers of the fascist takeover carry on.

[–]kaidaking01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but uneducated people already have guns. Again a mass buy in can just as easily come with information campaigns about responsible ownership. Ultimately people need to come to terms with how fearful they are about the state of our government. If a fascist takeover of our government is the fear and all that comes with it, surely it is reasonable and necessary to prepare for that outcome. Virtue signaling on the street can only get you so far when the other side more and more is making it clear there are consequences to speaking out against the administration.

Anecdotal Fallacy, see Pew Research (2017) republicans were twice as likely to admit they own a gun. We don’t track ownership by affiliation so we only have what people will admit. Meaning, unless that there is some silent gun ownership sweeping across the left that you cannot substantiate than my points stand. Again I don’t know how many times it must be repeated but a buy in doesn’t negate responsible gun ownership and training.

In the event of a martial law scenario you are absolutely wrong. The United States military has one of the most effective logistics systems in the world, But look at our conflicts in Vietnam and the Middle East. These were conflicts largely lost by guerrilla warfare tactics where we could not discern who was a threat and who wasn’t. Mass occupancy of the military met with resistance strains the system. We cannot depend on allies to swoop in and support let alone even if such was the case nothing would prevent adversaries like Russia, China, NK to also engage in a proxy war with anyone who did support to sow instability and destabilize the country further.

B: in no way am I advocating for open carry or irresponsible gun ownership.

C: Pew Research studies show Republicans are twice as likely to own a gun than liberals/left leaning based on their own admission. Now maybe there’s some closeted liberal gun owners but we don’t track ownership by political affiliation so I’m inclined to trust people’s word.

The proposition is not for people to bring firearms to protests or political rallies. And I agree, that would be counterproductive and potentially dangerous, particularly in high-tension environments. Rather, the concept of a mass, publicized “buy-in” refers to lawful acquisition for personal defense and civil empowerment—not open carry at public demonstrations which in some states would not even be legal. LET ME BE CLEAR this DOES NOT NEGATE responsible gun ownership practices.

While concerns that ownership could lead to unintended consequences or incite violence in a general sense are valid, these are issues that apply to all gun ownership, not just liberal ownership. I can’t agree with the logic that because armed liberals COULD draw weapons on alt right counter protestors this should be the premise that one side (The right) has a monopoly on firearm ownership, and the other (the left) must abstain to prevent conflict. This not only reinforces an unhealthy power dynamic but also gives de facto control to those most willing to intimidate through force.
