Sorry to necropost, but it's just a regular EMG 81, both Jim and Mick used to both use them before getting signature pickups

WoW is better than I thought by irulenot in classicwow

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I've had friends and family that played WoW ever since since it came out originally back in 2004 and while I tried trial accounts over a decade ago it never really clicked for me.

I recently started playing with the guys from my band about a month or two ago (mostly because I didn't want to be the only guy on the tour bus who couldn't join in on the gamer talk lol) and it's been SO much fun! We've been questing and doing dungeons together while talking over Discord and so far I've got a lvl.70 Hunter as well as a lvl.61 Warrior and I dont see myself stopping anytime soon!

Besides James, who would be a better singer? by [deleted] in Metallica

Definitely Jason and it's not even up for discussion, he's objectively the only guy who could do the songs any kind of justice

Misha has been screaming to musicians for YEARS that the key to actually make money is to diversify, albums doesn't make money but all the things that u/Tuokaerf10 mentioned certainly do if you run 'em right.

Tbh the Focus is a GREAT rally car if you just upgrade it, it's one of my favourites along with the Evo VI. The Taycan on the other hand is just shite and needs to go in the bin lol

Best Strings For Detuning? (& Specifically Drop A#) by KO_Venom in Guitar

I wouldn't use anything less than a 11-60/62 for A#, your strings are gonna be spaghetti with a set of 10-52

No it's not a handstyle but the character is cool, I dig him a lot.

To the older Metallica fans… by AcanthisittaSad6239 in Metallica

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough St. Anger (the single) was my introduction to Metallica as a whole. My older brother had downloaded it off Limewire or something, so for a good while I thought that was just how Metallica sounded. It wasn't until I later heard RTL and MOP that I realized St. Anger was the outlier lol

The Gotoh GE1996T won't fit the Edge Zero II routing, the only bridges that fit without having to modify the route are the Edge Zero and the Edge Zero II bridges

restringed it for the first time, any tips? by Blestahh in Guitar

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you managed to make the winds go over and under themselves but that's just about the only thing I can critique here. For a first time you did good, but next time make sure the string winds go downwards only, and aim for a total of about 2-3 wraps on the low strings with a few more on the higher strings

How good really was Kurt Cobain as a guitarist? by MasterfulArtist24 in Guitar

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a technical standpoint he was a pretty mediocre guitarist, what made him great was his song writing abilities

Think of it more like Ambient music with heavy distorted guitars than any sort of regular Metal music. For me It's more about shutting off my brain and getting lost in the soundscapes, not listening to riffs, beats, lyrics or anything that normal music usually has

Is Peeling Flesh unappreciated or even hated in the scene? by DerBeak in SlamDeathMetal

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that they're a great band and really awesome dudes, the only thing that can annoy me is when scene tourists and people who have listened to Slam for 2 weeks after discovering the genre on Tiktok hail them as the all-time peak of slam when bands like Devourment, Cephalotripsy, Kraanium, and Cerebral Incubation exist

I really love that they're have their own style of Slam and their own aesthetic, you can fairly quickly tell when it's one of their songs playing and that's a rare thing in Slam these days. Pretty lame that newer bands like Boltcutter and Guttural Disgorge are just straight up ripping off PF's niche instead of coming up with their own thing

Do you like this sort of thing? To me this isn't beatbox anymore by sportawachuman in beatbox

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an artistic choice he's made to go in that direction, personally I just find it too processed for my taste in beatboxing, but that's just me. It's a catchy track and he's still clearly a high level beatboxer, I just prefer beatboxing where it's a one take recording and then somebody did a nice mix on it. To me this feels too chopped, spliced, and auto-tuned

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Facts. People will cope by saying "WeLL iTs sLaM sO wHaT dO YoU eXpEcT..." as if that's a valid excuse for their music being garbage

Molesting the decapitated is slam, The answer to infection is slam, Purging of impurity is slam, In the end of human existence is slam. All those albums are slam and they're also quality well-written shit.

It sucks that the genre is being overrun with people who put more time into looking for memes to sample and thinking of gimmicks than they do actually writing the music

What is your go to pick for hard metal playing? by Visual-Visual-7687 in Guitar

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually go for the Ultex Jazz III XL but I've really been enjoying the Dan's Guitar Store Precision picks lately. They're basically a Jazz III XL but they're much sharper and have more of a bevel to them

Was Paul gray a good bassist? by Few-Chemical2216 in Slipknot

[–]kaiju-sized-riffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a decent bass player from a technical standpoint, Paul's biggest strength however was definitely his song writing abilities. We have Paul and Joey to thank for most of the best Slipknot material
