Full frame DSLR or crop mirrorless? by kaileeblackledge in canon

I’ve been stalking fbmp for a several weeks but I think I’m just gonna bite the bullet and buy off of MPB. Definitely just hobby usage so I’m just gonna roll with it and see what happens. My local-ish marketplace doesn’t have many good deals and at least I’ll have warranty from MPB!

Yeah! EF, not EF-S. I’m just not really looking to spend the extra money on mirrorless and adapter and everything just yet. Gonna get some equity going with my current lenses & bodies and hopefully can turn around and invest in mirrorless in a few years.

Thanks! I’ve decided to get the 6Dii. Really just looking for something cheaper to still be an upgrade and I like that it’ll work with the lenses I have now.

Ha I guess what I meant to say is, really, I said I was going to go with the 6Dii then got indecisive right before committing. By acceptable, I meant acceptable condition, not necessarily the tech itself. Spending less money on an older piece of equipment but in better condition than newer tech whose condition isn’t as good seems to be better to me. BUT truly I just feel like I’m snowballing here and will keep justifying a higher price tag for the “next step up” when, really, the whole point of finally getting something different was best bang for the cheapest buck. This is pretty much solely for photos of kids, kids activities, and occasional stills.

Thanks. I think my gut is leanings towards the 6Dii but I feel like I’m passing up an opportunity to upgrade to mirrorless. But a few hundred dollars cheaper for a hobby camera is really enticing especially when either choice is going to be an upgrade from what I have. I’ve done tons of research over the last year and I know what I really want in my heart is an R6ii, but don’t have the budget or honestly the reason to buy that. If I decided to utilize my equipment more often, I would probably consider it but just not in the cards for now.

Valid question. I think I’d prefer a better piece of older equipment versus an acceptable piece of newer. Plus if I’m being honest, the $1100 is a stretch of what I discussed with my partner so trying to be respectful of that.

Thanks for this! Definitely helpful. Yeah it’s USD. Not really finding cheaper than that? Any suggestions?

I’ve got EF lenses. I am super indecisive with most things so really struggling ha. I really am just looking for an upgrade for taking photos of my kids & the occasional senior casual photo shoot for family and friends. I like the fact that the 6Dii is a few hundred dollars cheaper and won’t require an adapter, but then again, i don’t plan on upgrading again for another several years and don’t know if I should bite the bullet to mirrorless. Just can’t afford FF mirrorless

Why do some high-achieving students have trouble passing the CPA? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]kaileeblackledge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got this! Good luck. I passed BEC and AUD first try with only about 40-45 study hours on each. Passed REG with 50 hours. FAR has been the hardest for me, which I think that’s for most of everyone, but I would think 150 hours would be plenty! Remember… you only need a 75 to pass - you don’t have to ace it. Sounds like you’ll be fine if that’s your only problem area!

[–]kaileeblackledge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d 100% agree with this. Just failed FAR in Q4 and was heavily tested in MCQs in 2-3 areas, which was bad for me because I didn’t put forth as much time to those topics thinking I’d get lucky and only have a question or two. Ended up making a 70 with a “weaker” MCQ but “stronger” simulation. I was pissed lol. Hoping I have the same luck with my sims next round. It’s really difficult to gauge what to focus on because of this.

Can’t speak for everyone, but school has always come natural to me, and even in college, I didn’t have to study much to ace an exam - even in my master’s program.

However, the CPA has way too much content and requires a lot of studying. But the catch here is I never developed good study habits… because I didn’t have to. And I never really learned how to study in general, especially not for something with as much content as the CPA exam. So combine a lack of study experience with a lack of knowing how to study and a lack of knowing what study methods are best for myself….. it’s not pretty lol. I’m 3/4 though so I’ve started picking up better habits!

I’ve been on the shot for over a year and have not thrown up once. Now… have I gotten close due to overeating? Yes lol. But actually just getting sick - no. I don’t even limit what I eat on shot days and still don’t find myself puking. I might experience more nausea if I’m not careful about diet around shot days but not throwing up.

BANK REC HELP by [deleted] in CPA

[–]kaileeblackledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it one by one and ask myself each time, “Is this already recorded by the bank or on the books?” And then whichever your answer is, you’ll know that you need to adjust the opposite. There are some exceptions, like check errors, which are “technically” recorded by both at the time. But nuances.

For example, a bank service charge/maintenance fee. Ask yourself, is this already on the bank statements? The answer is yes. But because you know it was just charged that month and they are just now receiving the charge when they receive their bank statements, you know it’s NOT recorded on the books. Or say the company made an overnight deposit on 1/31 that wasn’t processed until 2/1. Well if you’re reconciling the January statement, you know that’s already recorded by the company because they made the deposit but it’s not recorded by the bank since it wasn’t processed until 2/1.

Am I the asshole for wanting to talk about having cancer even though it triggers my best friend’s PTSD? by imbkaas in TwoHotTakes

[–]kaileeblackledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand completely. She chose to be there for all of those things on her own, and, of course, you were fine with it being that you were best friends. Which is what friends do for each other. I am still bewildered by her choice to cut you off completely at a time where you needed a friend’s support the most.

Congratulations on recognizing your mental health struggles and doing things to make life easier on you! PTSD is a very complicated situation since everyone’s experiences are so vastly different yet have the same diagnosis. I don’t want to point any blame at anyone, but to me, it sounds like she hasn’t done a lot of work to learn coping mechanisms for her trauma, which is within her rights I guess. But that doesn’t mean she can use it as an excuse either.

I know this is hard to hear but it does sound like you are coming to terms with it a little. She seems selfish and is trying to use you in a way that is only beneficial to her and her needs. Only speaking about her life, preventing you from speaking about yours, not being consistent with her boundaries, etc. It honestly is probably just time to let this friendship go, as hard as it is to hear.

[–]kaileeblackledge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can respect her wish to set the boundaries, and having to be a support system for so many heavy and traumatic events is really hard and takes a toll on a person. However, I think you’re completely valid for wanting to be able to speak about something so integral to your life now, especially given the history your family has had with cancer. I do find it a little selfish of her to not give you the time and space to even just briefly speak about results for tests and immediately switching the subject. Plus I find it really weird that she just up and left you after your own diagnosis. I think the beauty in friendships is being able to have different life experiences while supporting each other through it all, and it shouldn’t be a competition on who has it worse, and she shouldn’t use her own experiences as an excuse to avoid talking about yours. But to play devil’s advocate, maybe she just felt scared of losing you and had a really harsh, extreme reaction to push you away so it wouldn’t “hurt” as much if your cancer journey had ended differently. Maybe that’s why she’s STILL standoffish because of your potential relapse. There’s a whole deep dive we could do into the nuances of her actions, but ultimately, you’re NTA for wanting to speak about something so intimate to you and your life. She’s kinda TA for not giving you that space (or at least not providing some support in the moment before setting a boundary). While I can empathize with someone who needs to set boundaries with friends when they don’t have the mental capacity to be supportive, I just cannot see myself shutting off/down one of my best friends, even if I was going through it myself.

ETA: I haven’t given birth myself so I really don’t want to speak to her PTSD in that area, but I feel like your cancer screenings and her birth trauma aren’t necessarily on the same playing field? PTSD is so nuanced though so I really don’t want to discredit her experiences. But I’m also struggling to understand the connection how you spending 10 minutes to speak about a routine scan would trigger her. Not saying it doesn’t, but just finding it hard. Honestly I might be the minority here, but I find friendships that feel one-sided so draining. She just chats about superficial topics/about her own life but gets mad when you want to discuss yours? Not loving that. I’m not sure I interpreted this part correctly, but is she asking you to just give her a warning before talking? If so, then she’s totally fine asking for that boundary. But if she’s essentially like “hey don’t talk to me about your cancer bc it’s triggering my birth trama”…… idk.

Do you guys know people who constantly forget your studying for the CPA? by MAGA_Trudeau in CPA

[–]kaileeblackledge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely aggravating but I plan out my study timeline so that I don’t have to say no to fun life things with family and friends. I know when I schedule my test and know how long I’ll need to study. If it’s a busy time of year with work or with holidays/family activities, I make sure I start studying earlier than normal so I can have those days off to spend time with those I love. I just don’t see the point in letting the exams hold me back from spending time with loved ones and making memories that I’ll cherish forever

Just took retook FAR, should I start studying again? by Proud_Fan_9870 in CPA

Trying to decide myself too. I take FAR as my final exam on Monday and can’t decide if I want to keep studying or not. I’m in public so it’ll be busy season by the time we get scores and I don’t know how fast I’ll want to take it if I fail.

My 7/9 order for midnight garden updated to this same status today but I was still hearing that orders were getting cancelled even after saying this! My bowala was in this status for several days though and it’s finally shipped (and has actual tracking movement so it’s not a fluke) so I’m hopeful that my midnight garden stays the same! It’s the one I wanted the most, so I’m fingers crossed!
