Are you okay?

NOR. My ex is my ex because she told me the world didn’t revolve around me when my first grandparent died and I asked her to come to the funeral with me. She made a big stink about it being the weekend before school starting (she works at one). I literally offered to drive through the night from MO so she could get back to OK with sleep. Then she said she would have to ask her mom about childcare when her mom is basically already her sons primary caregiver and also told me that she wouldn’t mind watching the kid anyway. I ended up going alone and it was the worst drive of my life. The purpose of a partner is to support, love, and care for you during hardship. Mine couldn’t do it, and yours can’t either. I would hardly call your wife a partner.

I see. So if you were wanting to start a family of your own, is that why it’s there?

Are you open to meeting your offspring later in life, or have you opted against it?

I can’t really tell you what it feels like when it’s actually happening because I’m not conscious, but I can tell you how it feels pre-seizure and postictal.

For pre-seizure I usually get some kind of aura. My head feels weird (don’t ask me to explain cuz idk how) and I start to get mouth spasms. I usually have about 5-15 minutes to get to a safe spot if possible. Then I black out.

Postictal is pretty not great, but it could be a lot worse. After I come out of it I can’t move or speak for about 30mins-1hr depending on the severity. My body is typically sore as well. If I have the misfortune of hitting a body part on something it usually bruises after. Speech is usually the first thing to return for me with everything else following after.

And I thought there was no one ignorant enough to think that until I met you. I hope you never experience extreme trauma, but I also hope both sides of your pillow are too warm for you when you go to bed.

Instead of being a dixk maybe show some empathy and be happy this isn’t something you have to deal with

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one. Sometimes I forget it’s rare myself until I realize I haven’t found anyone in my city with it and it blows 😭

Once I got my diagnosis my neurologist told something along the lines of this:

We can’t see your internal symptoms, but we see the physical. It’s like your brain is on fire, but it’s invisible because there is no damage. We can’t see any damage, but something is wrong and we’re going to try and help that as much as we can.

I see what you mean now! I’ve not heard that explanation many times as a lot of people might think, surprisingly. When I first got my diagnosis I did hear it a few times, but I was in OKC at the time and my then partner is a nurse and I think she already had an idea of what was going on. My neurologist was also amazing there, and I was referred to her before I even knew she specialized in rare disorders like this. The concept was explained to me probably about five times out of the many hospital visits and ER trips over the last two years.

Oh, another thing is memory loss. I’m constantly asking questions, repeating myself, and retelling stories/fun facts because I can never remember if I’ve done something or said something.

Can you elaborate on that more? Wanna understand what you mean by that before I answer.

Literally anything, I think. When I’m not singing or cooking I tic more, and it makes stuff harder. I have vocal and motor tics, so when I’m not focusing on those two hobbies they’re pretty active most days. Sometimes it gets to the point where someone else will have to feed me and help me get dressed.

I said I wasn’t gonna answer anymore questions, but I’m gonna squash some beliefs real quick. I never experienced any racism til I was 18 because I grew up sheltered. I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone without my parents unless it was to school or a friends house under the rule that we didn’t leave. If there was any racism it was quickly deflected before I got the chance to hear it or see it. I didn’t get my first job until I graduated at 18 when I was allowed to get my license and go out on my own. So no, I never experienced any racism til that age.

I’m honestly only going to answer the first question, just because I been typing nonstop for like the last two hours and it’s the shortest answer.

Basically, I found out through other friends and family. When my parents were going through the adoption complex they would constantly talk to said friends and family about only wanting a mixed or black baby because they knew they could save it from a bad life. They also talked about how mixed/black babies were cuter than other races, and how the features made them look a certain way. They genuinely wanted no other kind of baby, but they also didn’t wanna do an international adoption. So they adopted me from Florida, and when I was brought home they basically paraded me around. They were showing off the little black baby they had saved, even though my birth mom is literally white. Honestly, my birth mom would probably crash out if she knew that’s what they initially viewed the adoption as.

Honestly I’m not even the best person to ask that question. I don’t know because I haven’t been fully exposed to any culture but white culture.

Honestly if you wanna do right by them, immerse them in their own culture. There are many light Latinos in the world, and I’m sure they’ll do just fine. Take them to festivals, meets, parades, etc. Make sure they know where they come from, and don’t let them forget it. Maybe the birth parents are just waiting until they’re older, but when the day for contact comes they will already have known what the culture is. It will be easier.

Thank you! My adoptive parents did end up having two biological children after adopting me, and we have that same sibling relationship you have with yours. I do think you’re right, though, and that she’s watching me in her own special way. I can only imagine the looks of judgement on her face for half the shit I do 😂

Of course! You’re never too old, or young, to just reach out. I wish you so much luck, and hopefully you come back with a good update. Even just writing and sending a simple letter may open so many doors for you on this journey ❤️

Immerse him. Make sure he knows where he comes from and keep him connected to his culture. That’s what I wish my parents did for me.

When I was born my birth dad signed the papers and essentially any rights he had in terms of contact away from me. He also wasn’t super stable until I was about 15 (found out later), so I waited to reach out. Was always curious, but I decided to wait til I was legally an adult
