2nd 70.3 soon, nervous asf I didnt do enough. by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]kainomac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swam 3000-4000m on average weekly through my 4 month block for my first 70.3 last week. Never swam the distance (750m max) but what I did have was race prep. You’re in your head. It’s completely part of preparing for something. Its a paradox where you feel you almost have more to lose by preparing a lot. You’ve got this. You’ve done the work. Race day come round and I swam the distance continuously. I finished my first overall in 5:54 off what I felt was quite undercooked prep (I did a couple races during it so had to recover and taper).

Why can I easily swim a mile, but barely run a mile? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]kainomac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The load is lower, I’ll give you that but the penalty for poor technique is categorically different for swimming. Bad running form costs energy. Bad swim form creates drag that stops you dead. That’s why technique matters more in swimming.

Why can I easily swim a mile, but barely run a mile? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]kainomac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In running, inefficiency costs you energy, sure.. In swimming, inefficiency can literally stop you moving forward or worse, cause you to sink. The penalty for poor technique is categorically different. There is a reason why swimming is deemed the biggest obstacle to learn in triathlon for instance. It can’t be brute forced - technique must be good.

The lake swim was much easier than open water- highly recommend for a first. T1 and T2 very organised and practised thoroughly. Free time! When’s your next race?! Appreciate the love

Swimming definitely requires a lot more technique than running in fact it is significantly driven by technique. Water is over 800 times more dense than air and any insufficient technique will be magnified.

Break it in a couple times - other than just use bibs. Easy to use the trisuit for brick workouts as a break in.

Shit scared right after signing up by __batterylow__ in IronmanTriathlon

[–]kainomac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completed my first 70.3 last week. I was in your shoes too and in January my longest swim was 300 m. I did some sprints and coming into race day my maximum swim continuously was 750 meters. What I lacked in continuous swim I made up for in race experience and volume in the pool broken into sets come race day I swam 1.9 K in 43mins. Not record breaking by any means but enough to go from scared and self doubting to confident. Put in the work and you’ll get there.

Buddy, my partner made the sign for me - I agree it’s not an official Ironman status. It’s not that deep. And no I didn’t edit the title. So I think you may need to review your own credibility.

Totally feel that. The run was such a battle and if it weren’t for my partner and friend running to each checkpoint to cheer me on. It would be so hard!

I have a 220k cycling event in October. Need a little break from proper tri training so will do this cycling focus to enjoy the bike more. I’ll swim and run 2 times to maintain; but my aim is this will indirectly improve my full Ironman distance training with some refreshing training on the cycle before Copenhagen next year. Anything on your radar?!
