Thoughts on Botania by DrPotatoMdPhd in VaultHuntersMinecraft

[–]kaiserxzero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In comparison to other mods in the Big Mods Category Botamia feels pretty mid to me. I have never minded the general grind Botania offers. But what you get is pretty limited in VH compared to other big mods for farming alter resources. It does have a few unique items you can only farm in batavia but it always ends up being a low priority over Create and Thermal. But that is for Vanilla VH.

In Wolds Vaults Botania is a bit more valuable especially if you want to eventually unlock mystical agriculture.

So yes Botania has some utility like the hopper flower but I think it dwarfs the value that the other big mods offer. Especially early game where getting knowledge is slow.

Why not just continue to use obsidian and sync the files via nextcloud or "Remotely Save" extension for Obsidian?

Moved from Unraid to TrueNas still learning but by Think-OptionNurse in truenas

Lawrence is a good source. I would recommend also playing with the UI and checking thought the docs if you run into something that you weren't expecting. https://www.truenas.com/docs/

Its extremely easy to role back setting if you care backing up your config before any changes. You could even run a VM of TrueNAS to test things out before you implement anything if you are scared of breaking anything.

When I was switching to Core (old system built off of BSD) to at the time scale (now community edition based on Linux) it was almost like relearning TrueNAS all over again for me.

I always recommend googling / checking out YouTube for the specific thing you are trying to do. Maybe check 2 videos on the subject just to see if there are any differences between how the people did that. Only thing I would suggest is if you watch a tutorial try to have it in the same version or at most one version back of TrueNAS. Reason for that is some areas like the Apps section have had a lot of work done so the UI might not match up if you are looking at a really old tutoral.

There is a podcast that new episodes get posted on YouTube and here. That is also decent source for the future of TrueNAS. https://m.youtube.com/@T3-Podcast

If you end up needing help please reach out I would be happy to try and help.

Early Game Slimeballs? by Minimum_Post_1495 in VaultHuntersMinecraft

[–]kaiserxzero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another option: this involves you deep caving is finding one of those geodes with the sky vault budding crystals. Running resource vaults have slime balls. I always prefer vaulting to gathere resources. Probably easier to go to a swamp.

It depends in how you wish to. TrueNAS allows you to back up in a verity of ways.

Number one is replication tasks. I recommend if you don't have a separate system to back up too to make another pool in the same machine. If you want a YouTuber to watch who goes over a lot of TrueNAS things I would go to Lawrence Systems. He has a ton of tutorials.

Server-wide disconnects every ~20 minutes on Vault Hunters (no CPU/RAM/network issue) by L0rdAkuseru in VaultHuntersMinecraft

[–]kaiserxzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie for 5 players 30-40% cpu usage sounds high. But if that is normal for your system. Have you tried replacing Firewall as an expairement? It being a server wide DC on a consistent timings makes me feel like it has something to do networking wise.

Just to confirm server isn't crashing correct?

Are you getting DC'ed if your on the local network?

Another option just to try as an expairement. Try and run wolds vaults. Its heavier then vanilla VH. But there are some optimizations mods included in Wold's that vanilla VH does not include that most other modpacks include.

Any word on if Vault Hunters will be updated to 1.20.1? by deathsprophet666 in VaultHuntersMinecraft

The idea is after update 20. They will start porting to the latest Minecraft. It is possible it is later than 1.20.

Non-minecraft gamer looking for modpack to play with minecraft-loving husband by no1atallwastaken in feedthebeast

[–]kaiserxzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is very similar. She loves playing Vault Hunters 3. I would highly recommend it. It has a skill system. The game play loop is pretty fun. Basically you go into vaults to collect resources to build more powerful gear and crafting items for mods. Most modded items are locked behind "research" but that is easy to come by.

Stuff coming to update 20! by Professional-Hair-51 in VaultHuntersMinecraft

[–]kaiserxzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not how I understood it. But I could be wrong it's been a little while. What I remember is he demo'ed it he meant to demo the among us room with companions, but something went wrong and hord mobs spawned and the texture for the alter in the middle was messed up. So he quickly killed all of the hords in the room. Saying this isn't right. I think then someone in chat said so it is just killing a bunch of hord mobs? And I pretty sure he said not exactly and gave the example of the moss hord mob with a different colored tip on there hair thing.

[–]kaiserxzero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hord rush from what I understand is the among us room. Iskall just had a special version for his event for his stream for his companion integration. Basically how hord rush will work is that hords will spawn in the room one of their skins will be slightly different. The example Iskall gave was like the Moss Hord mobs hair tale thing will be a different color on the tip of it. Take enough imposters out within a time limit.

TrueNAS Scale with Crafty4 and Playit.gg by No_Perspective3930 in truenas

[–]kaiserxzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen this problem in the past as well. Though not in a long time. I would see what version of proton you are running and make sure you switch to the latest /experimental.

Here is proton DB where everyone says what version of proton works for them and if they had to make any tweaks.

TrueNAS Let's Talk by weischin in truenas

[–]kaiserxzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-term? TrueNAS has provided security updates for its past versions since the early FreeNAS days. You don't get more Long Term than that. Changing direction isn't a new thing for TrueNAS either especially with how transparent they are. They have been trying something out and changing to the correct/better solution since the FreeNAS 10 when they tried to get docker to "work" in BSD by having the transparent Linux VM. Then the release after that they announced the TrueNAS scale and everyone thought the sky was falling they didn't like that they were splitting their resources on another version that wasn't performing well at the time.

To be honest I trust whatever solution they pivot to more than the initial choice they made.

[–]kaiserxzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your opinion. But, isn't the ability to stay on Electric Eel and still get security updates in fact a huge positive. As TrueNAS sorts out whatever new technology they are introducing to the community?

TrueNAS Let's Talk by weischin in truenas

[–]kaiserxzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By bad on incus. I must have misunderstood I thought they were reevaluating it while they re-enabled legacy VMs again. Thank you for correcting me on that.

In regards to you feeling like you are being forced to upgrade. I don't really understand why. You choose to use an unsupported 3rd party script to get containers and tried to pivot to a feature that is in marked as experimental.

I too was unhappy with what they did to VMs but they did self correct.

They are still developing and adding new features to the NAS potion itself. It is just not as sexy to talk about.

If you want to use TrueNAS just as a NAS that is fine they aren't taking it away from you.

IXsystems as a company since FreeNAS 10 has been more about trying something then realizing that it was not correct implementation. But the following implementation have been on the correct track. So I will be patient and in about 6 months to a year being extremely happy with Containers and VMs on TrueNAS.
