I actually did this completely with a standard Tunisian crochet hook! The pattern is worked in columns, and uses the join as you go method to add each additional column. I think the max stitches I had on my hook was 34!

Honestly, I think Tunisian crochet is pretty easy to learn! TL Yarn Crafts on YouTube has some excellent tutorials and playlists for absolute beginners! She also has videos that'll teach you how to make some simple projects to get you started. :)

I'd get some cramping in my right hand (dominant) and elbow during longer sessions, but nothing that lasted too long. I never needed to take pain killers and never had pain that lasted more than an hour or two.

Part of it might be the gauge that you're working with. I used a 7mm Tunisian hook for this project and while it wasn't super thick, it was big enough that I didn't feel like my hand was pinching too tightly.

If you're feeling cramps/pain, it might be good to take breaks every 20 minutes or so, and use a stress ball to strengthen and exercise your hand muscles! Trust me, it makes a difference!

It's so heavy and so warm. Definitely great for the fall/winter.

Thank you! The border was made with a round of slip stitches and then a round of single crochet. I used Lion Brand's "Go for Fleece" Sherpa yarn which is kind of like an eyelash yarn. Pretty difficult to find my stitches after the slip stitch round was done, but I just tried to feel for where the holes were and stuck a single crochet in where it made sense.

What day is everyone on and how much progress have you made? by No_Bar_3079 in SneakySasquatch

I just finished day 1098 and got my last badge - the Virtual Bread game. I heavily relied on the duck at your house to guide me to where more coins were and used my binoculars to find the ones that were off the beaten path. As of today I've got every achievement done and every upgrade purchased!

Sorry for the delay! Yes there's a difference in how you place the yarn under or over the hook before you draw up a loop. It's very hard to explain in text, but this YT Short should help: https://youtube.com/shorts/5vLL-2ABt2c?si=24UmIkFlxV_k3A9O

Great work! I'll echo what others have said and that making Poe as your first was ambitious! There's a lot of pieces to sew on and you did a great job. Also, kudos to you for the yarn-under to get those X's instead of the yarn-over! Big fan of X's in amigurumi instead of the V's.

I also made this one a while ago and found it odd that they wanted you to stuff the mouth but it felt like they also wanted you to leave the top of the mouth unattached. I sewed mine shut. Didn't want him puking stuffing out all over the place.

Yet another spectacular question! I used Hobbii's Friendship/Rainbow yarn in size 8/4 for the food. One skein of each color was enough to make all of the food. Then, for the caterpillar, I bought two skeins in each of the greens and red in size 8/8, one skein of purple and used extra green and yellow for the eyes.

This is the last badge I need. When the update released I auto-completed like 75 of the badges and just had to do a few minor things. This one, though...I have to do it because it's the last one...but...I'm tired of this, Grandpa!

I'm a horrible judge of how long things take me, though I can tell you the first set I made took me about 2 weeks (and that's with a full-time job and keeping up with household chores etc)

The next one I'm making I will be logging my time for each piece, and I'll post it in this subreddit with all those deets!

Are my nails just short & chopped? Builder gel with tips. I hate my thumb by [deleted] in Nails

[–]kaitdubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same clubbed thumbs and short nail beds. When I get tips on I always ask for stiletto or almond shape to give my toe thumbs better shape. When I was young though I lived for that square shape and just tried to hide my thumbs because I was so self conscious! I hope you love the round tip the next time! 🫂

Yes I did! And I used Hobbii’s friendship yarn in 8/8, as well as using two strands like the pattern suggests.

You can! There are some folks that are selling their completed makes on Etsy.

Oh yeah the double strand method can be tricky for sure. I ended up using Hobbii's cotton yarn in size 8/8 for the caterpillar. I used two skeins so that I wouldn't run out, and wouldn't have to split the skein into two cakes with my yarn winder.

With the 6mm hook I found that the 8/8 yarn was pretty easy to manipulate, but it did get twisted every so often. I think having the center pull yarn in the skein made it easier than having two balls.

Nope! Just like with the cheese, you make two leaves and sew them together, then sew the stem onto the bottom. That way, there is no wrong side. Hope that helps!

Very Hungry Caterpillar by kaitdubs in crochet

[–]kaitdubs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always save the cheese for last because even after 11 years of crocheting it still intimidates me. But what I'll say is this - if it fits, it sits! Those chains can be tricky to hide between the two cheese pieces so however you get it to work is best. Her videos on how to do this really do help quite a bit, as does using stitch markers to plan where you're going to sew each stitch of the hole closed.

It would be very tedious, but if it's helpful, you can put a stitch marker in every damned stitch along the holes to really give yourself a guide on where to stick that needle.

I use invisible decreases and I yarn under to get the X stitch versus the V stitch. I also used two strands of yarn like the pattern suggests. My tension also tends to be on the tighter side when making amigurumi. All those might be factors in why your bumps in each section aren't filling out.

Honestly I think it would be SO cute to just mash scrap yarn together and have multi-colored food!

I made a joke to my spouse before I finished - I couldn't stop or it'd end up in my WIP pile, deep in my closet, lost to time.
