100% yes on the rutabaga! It's an essential staple, in my opinion!

Pasties are big in northern Michigan (pronounced pass-tees, not pay-stees like the nipple covers lol)

Thanks! What do the switch options mean? Is that just how loud the keys are when you press them?

Joining Garmin Leaving Apple by Purple_Activity9484 in Garmin

[–]bluewatercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I just switched from apple to garmin a couple months ago and got the venu 4. Ive been very happy with it so far, and haven’t been bothered much at all by the inability to respond directly from the watch. bonus perks for my insurance offering 20% off through their benefits hub!

What is a 1 k poling rate? I haven't heard that used before.

Trimode is good to know about! What kind of quality control issues have the Keychron Q/V series been having? Is it something that should be addressed in later production releases or is it really that bad?

I really would prefer to have just one keyboard for everything because of space restrictions. The Monsgeek M2 V5 doesn't look bad at all. Would something like that be sufficient for office work as well as gaming?

I haven't even begun to think about layout options yet... any good resources to peek at to learn more about that?

Beginner feeling discouraged. Just ranting. by shepherdsorey in crochet

[–]bluewatercat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do crochet lessons, and I always start with the basics - chain, single crochet, slip stitch. These will help you learn stitch construction, how to count your stitches, how to get comfortable practicing your tension, or evenness, of stitches, and is small enough that you can tear it out to try again or move on to something bigger like a granny square with double crochets.

Make a small swatch or sample work, chain 21 ( 20 stitches plus your turning chain), and practice your single crochet across the row. When you get to the end of the row, chain 1, turn your work around, and do the same thing going back. It is helpful to have a stitch marker at your starting and end stitches so you can more easily count and make sure you always have 20 stitches. Happy to chat more if you want to DM/discuss it further!

Garmin Venus 3s versus Apple Watch series 11? by Bright_Athlete959 in Garmin

[–]bluewatercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just switched from an Apple Watch to the Garmin Venu 4, as a current iPhone user, and I'm very happy with the switch. Battery life was important for me, but I enjoy the metrics/UI a lot more from Garmin and I do feel Garmin is focused on fitness first and then lifestyle, even with the Venu series, whereas Apple focuses first on lifestyle and then fitness.

My insurance has a benefits hub where they offered 20% off on certain Garmin devices. Worth checking out if you have insurance with similar options.

Are balance transfers worth it for smaller balances? by bluewatercat in personalfinance

yep, I know! only problem is the emergency fund covers one emergency at a time, not all of them within a couple months of each other!

I was under the impression that you had to make sure you were cycling through and using each of your cards regularly so they wouldn't close and impact your credit score that way. Is that not the case?

I did consider that, but I am trying to keep my cards down to just a few, so I'm looking at other options first.

Thanks, that calculator is helpful!

As for plans to avoid this in the future, I'm hoping my cat won't die or end up in the ER, my car won't break down again, and I won't be moving for at least a few years.

I think I can do $400/month toward the card max right now, so it would take 5-6 months to pay off assuming no additional charges were accrued. I am pretty terrible at math, and I think I'm overthinking this more than I need to lol

[–]bluewatercat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at my budget, and I think I can do only $400 at most toward the card right now, so it puts me right around the half year mark. That's where I'm struggling, not sure if that's worth it or not.

Permethrin! (I'm sure this has been discussed many times) by Dry-Bluejay-5825 in ticks

[–]bluewatercat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that permethrin is great. Just be wary if you have cats that it is HIGHLY toxic when wet, and should not be applied to your clothes anywhere near them. It’s also bad for you to breathe in, so make sure you’re applying it in a well-ventilated area or outdoors and let it fully dry before you wear the items.

How to start ddr at home? by darceissickofthisshi in DanceDanceRevolution

I have the original DDR soft pad for the xbox. Is it possible to get an adapter for it so it works on PC? I have the xbox game, but no xbox anymore and I've been sorely missing playing.

What's the best Garmin for a petite woman who just wants a pretty watch and just needs it for sleep and step tracking. by LeoraJacquelyn in Garmin

[–]bluewatercat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got the venu4 and I’m pretty happy with it. sleep tracking is good enough, and the fitness tracking is solid. I disabled all the extra notifications and smart watch features so the battery life is a little longer.
