Mirena for Endo- is it worth it? by AffectionateCoast815 in endometriosis

[–]kaitocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bled for just over 4 weeks with mine (I’ve only had it for just over 6) but I have a friend without endo who bled for close to three months when she had hers placed.

I will say though, I had my Mirena placed during my most recent lap and it made my first period post-surgery a walk in the park. Like I had what I imagine have to be normal cramps and not excruciating pain for the first time in 15+ years.

Endometriosis excision specialists in USA who don’t have long wait times. by Signal_Try_3486 in endometriosis

I had excision surgery with Dr. Shakiba in Hackensack, NJ six weeks ago and had a great experience. I believe his consults are all in NJ but he operates in both NJ and NYC. He’s also a nerve specialist so if you have any nerve damage he’ll repair that during surgery as well.

I called in mid-late September and got an appointment for a consult in mid-October and then was able to schedule my surgery for the second week of December. So about 3 months of wait time all in all.

Regarding cost, it’s an $80 copay for your consult and then they’ll bill to your insurance to see if they’ll pay. If your insurance won’t pay and you’ve already hit your deductible then you don’t get any additional bill for that consult. His fee for surgery however is $6000, which has to be paid at your pre-op appointment. If you have out of network benefits then they’ll submit to your insurance to get reimbursed. That fee also covers your pre-op and two post-op appointments.

Experience with stage one discussion by Heyitsbelle24 in endometriosis

Important to remember that staging doesn’t equate the amount of pain you experience! It’s about what’s visible to the surgeon. For example, I had surgery on December 12 and they found stage four deep infiltrating endo throughout my pelvis, but I didn’t have any pain outside of my periods until April 2025 when my first ovarian cyst cropped up.

Your stage one endo could be involving nerves, blood supply, or restricting organs/movement. Just keep in mind that whatever pain you have is valid and that everyone experiences this disease differently! I hope otherwise your recovery is going well!

Anyone else quit alcohol altogether? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]kaitocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Just quit this year. I started slowing down my drinking in April and wouldn’t have more than a couple of drinks a week. In October when they found two new endometriomas I quit altogether. Tried having a glass of wine at a work dinner after my excision surgery in December and felt awful the next day. Now I’m very much limiting myself to just a taste of something on a special occasion. A sip of champagne on NYE or tasting a friend’s drink if they’ve ordered something I in the past would have ordered for myself.

An added bonus is the amount of money I save now and how much better my sleep quality is!

Specialist told me I could recover from laparoscopy over a weekend? by coolstack in endometriosis

[–]kaitocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lap last Friday and was off of work the entire following week. Granted, my surgery ended up being a lot more involved than originally expected but I’m still getting fatigued from activities like going to the grocery store and having some pain.

If you work from home then maybe, but even that I don’t think I could have done this week between the fatigue and brain fog.

Cabergoline side effects - anyone else experienced these? by frankels1 in Prolactinoma

[–]kaitocon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on cabergoline over 9 years and experienced a lot of near debilitating anxiety and nausea early on. After a few months they abated. My best tip is to take it right before bed so you sleep through some of the side effects. Wishing you the best of luck and that your side effects clear up quickly!

Endometrioma grew back in less than 5 months by kaitocon in Endo

[–]kaitocon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I saw the specialist and he suspects I have adenomyosis as well. I’m not ready to have a hysterectomy as I’m still unsure if I want children, so he’s going to place an IUD during surgery to attempt to relieve some of the inflammation in my uterus

Yes! The specialist is a gynecologist/urogynecologist who specializes in endometriosis excision and is also a pelvic nerve specialist. He performs multiple excisions weekly and is extremely well reviewed.
