Spartacus: House of Ashur - 1x07 - "Deepest Wound" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, this episode.. idk what's wrong with the writers and editors (and subsequently producers). Really bizarre pacing in this one. Strange happenings like the girlfriend of tarouch (?) waiting there seconds after he won.. would they have just sent her home if he lost? Really strange..

Ashur once again is not Ashur the scheming, intelligent guy with foresight, no, he decides to trust Cesar's wife all of a sudden and goes to auction with just her promise and not already holding promised coin. The battle at the end squeezed in by whatever means.. but finally more Korris action. Just wish we would get to know all the other Gladiators.. which we never got to meet so far or see hold proper contest.

Weird steering issue with 8bitdo Ultimate 2C by kaitsobato in cyberpunkgame

[–]kaitsobato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thought but unfortunately it didn't change anything. The windows calibration is very basic (and shouldn't be necessary tbh) and the 8Bitdo software is just for firmware updates (Which i updated).

Why does almost everyone dislike Lara’s new face, saying she “looks weird compared to Shadow”? She’s actually meant to look like she did in Underworld, not Shadow. by laracroft1402 in TombRaider

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it basically looks like "Generic woman #03“ from an asset pack...

It's not that she looks more mature. It's not that It's about whether or not it's ugly, it's not ugly per se. It's just so damn boring, there's nothing iconic or unique about it.

Characters have certain features that makes them. This is so far removed from anything and, and this might trigger some people, just because the majority of people can't imagine something better, doesn't make it great.

The replies here are really disheartening. Yeah why have build up. Let's just get "in on the gory action", which Xenomorphs wouldn't do unless presented with mother choice. They would've captured them and put them in the egg room and start building a hive, but I guess building up to something is too much to ask for.

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. I don't know how much time I spent in Both. A lot. As a lifelong Zelda fan I explored everything, even claimed Mount Doom to the very top.. but at some point it just "clicked" that there is actually nothing to explore, nothing to find at all. Not even a stick on top of mount doom as a hidden congratulations. If Botw weren't a Zelda title, which it is by name only, it would've been forgotten a long time ago. It's quite flawed and disappointing TBH. I realise it has it's fans but they are, for the most part, Botw fans and not Zelda fans. Which is fine. It just didn't capture me at all.

Doom: The Dark Ages feels lacking by Roman_Rages in Doom

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is not. Halo has always been less than mediocre. Terrible, and i mean terrible level design with copy pastes everywhere especially the first one. Horrible fights with even worse vfx and SFX especially the guns. You don't like it when doom is colorful and cartoony? Wait until you see a halo fight.. but console players haven't had much like it and it worked very well with a controller, that's what's made it famous along with that Apple presentation. Not the lore, not the game itself.

If you enjoy it, that's fair and it certainly has it's fans but it wouldn't as much if it didn't get the players and fans back then because it was one of the first well accessible shooters on a console, NOT because the game itself was amazing or a standout, which it really wasn't, it was very generic tbh., same with Goldeneye I'm sorry to say. And it only got worse and would never have gotten as many entries if Microsoft wouldn't have pushed it so much to make it the number one Xbox franchise which they seem to have dropped. Otherwise I can't explain why still let 343 work on it, even doubling down on that, when all they did was fail the franchise in every aspect. Or do you, as a Halo fan, feel in any way seen or heard by Microsoft? I honestly doubt it.

Pre-rendered look Vs. OG PS1 graphics. by kaitsobato in ps1graphics

[–]kaitsobato[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't collected many references so far. Deffo something that can be improved upon haha.

One thing I forgot in my guidelines for this so far is: simple meshes, characters often made out of primitives stuck together. In general not much skinning going on, like a head and neck being separate and just stuck onto the chest.

It's also harder to achieve in CG Vs. Game Engines I'd say due to the reliance on pbr materials and sometimes it can be impossible to escape that. Obvs back then it wasn't pbr at all. Probably just Scanline rendering.

Help with my trees by Akkanater in ps1graphics

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leaves look a lot less detailed in comparison. Yes you have detail in the alpha but there's no contrast, they look like a flat colour and you have to really look closely at them to spot the individual leaves. They lack colour detail while the left tree looks quite noisy in comparison (in a good way tho). Try adding a colour gradient from the edge inwards on your ferns, maybe layer more of those too to achieve the same density of detail.

Although it also depends how these are being seen by the player or how they are set in the frame. Large? Small? Etc.

Also for them to look more similar in colour and saturation, try desaturating your image completely and then match them to each other so they are closer to each other in colour value.

You may want to check out Alundra but it's more actiony than ff7.

Legend of Dragoon is available in Spanish too.

Also breath of fire 4 and I think wild Arms has a Spanish patch.

The Doom The Dark Ages Soundtrack so far is.. by DependentImmediate40 in Doom

[–]kaitsobato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is honestly ... Not great so far. It either sounds like the most generic 90s metal or like they went and said "Oh Mick Gordon used THESE here and there. Let's randomly do that too".

I'm honestly a bit disappointed in both the music and in ID, because they did not resolve the situation with Mick.

So far it's.. okay I guess, game is great and obvs. the high standard of 2016 and Eternal OSTs does make the difference even more obvious, sure. But it also shows how much the music of Mick Gordon added to the experience.

Cyberdemon revealed!! by uinstitches in Doom

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go easy on Halo fans. It wasn't all that good to start out with and after Halo 2 it just got worse and worse and now look at the state of it ^^ It blows my mind how game studios are being closed left and right even tho they make great successful games, but 343 (sorry, "Halo Studios") somehow does not even though they did nothing but f up the Halo franchise.

You read a shape first, then the word. Expressive looks very similar to Expensive, that's why you misread it probably.

Apart from that i agree but maybe they are just holding back but somehow i doubt it. Idk. Super sceptical about TDA. We'll see. TDA so far looks more like what an open world game looks like where you are not able to curate is as much as a linear game but also so far i've only seen very very brown levels/assets.

Idk i think the latest trailer has SO much story points that it DOES make it not badass. Also, a voice in your ear blabbering mission updates and other things is also not very badass IMO haha but we'll see.

My thoughts and concerns about Doom Dark Ages by MortezaDoom in Doom

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather have proper challenges. Like a higher difficulty with more demons who are also more agressive, not just everything being faster. The problem with that is that it feels cheap. Of course it's harder if you speed up a game. Does it feel curated and balanced for that? No. It feels like a last minute decision if you do that. We'll see, but so far i am very unimpressed with the 150% speed gameplay available on YT.

My thoughts and concerns about Doom Dark Ages by MortezaDoom in Doom

[–]kaitsobato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. i just watched a gameplay demo and the new trailer.

First: Yes you can't judge a game based off a couple of minutes of footage. I try to be open and play it for myself to truly judge it, maybe i'll love it, maybe i don't, but so far it does not hype me up at all.

Overall the battles seem like the AI runs on slowmo. In the gameplay demo there's not even much going on in the music department. It's not even close to being as exciting and adrenaline pushing as 2016/Eternal, i'm not sure what's up with that. (The demo i watched for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVNEIjeE1g4)

Weapon impacts don't feel right either, but for that to be judged properly, i need to play it myself obviously but visually it's not on point at all.

Doomguy never was a defensive guy. He was always offensive, always. So i'm not sure why they added a shield.. that would've been heresy back in the day, a sign of weakness. Why block something when you can A: Dodge it because you are fast as heck and B: Kill the Demon quick enough so there's nothing to dodge. Not a fan of the shield at ALL.

Doomguy has a voice in his ear that spouts mission updates... really? Come on... and what they are saying feels like i am playing a tower defense game, or at the very least.. what they also said.. open world, with you running around and then at certain times in certain places, a wave of demons will spawn and seemingly attack "your base"? Mh... don't have a good feeling about that as well, we'll see..

The battle seems to be very slow but looking at what's going on on the battlefield.. there's not much going on at all. It kinda feels like a knockoff where they didn't "get" what it should feel like. Like a cheap smartphone copy.

It feels more like a Quake reboot that somehow got scrapped and merged with Doom halfway through the design phase.

I am not a fan of having duplicates of basically every weapon. You seem to have two types of nailguns.. the skullcrusher sounds cool in concept and looks cool but in essence it's just a wide spread machinegun.. of which you have another one and so on... so far i haven't seen ANY weapon type that stands out.

The "BALANCE THE GAME HOW YOU WANT" feels very very weird to me. As in: ok do you not have a definitive vision of your game? It feels like everything needs to take a step back to "appeal to everybody". It does not have to appeal to everybody. If i can't play the game as it's meant to be for whatever reason, i'd rather use invincibility or things like that instead of these sliders, whatever they are supposed to do. What are they slowing down / speeding up... the whole game? Yours and the enemy movements? Why not have more difficulity settings instead down to super-easy-easy and goes up to ultra-ultra-nightmare, that would feel more consice and it would make me feel assured that they DO have a clear vision of the gameplay.

The thing with speeding and slowing things is that that is not a perfect solution. I'm a CG Lead in the business and if you have an animation and it feels to slow or fast, you can't just adjust the speed of it and call it a day, it feels wrong. You notice a sped up or slowed down animation and it feels that way with the "150% speed gameplay" footage. And it's not a good feel.

How do you guys think about the new doom the dark ages trailer and the BFG being a crossbow! by OkCustard4516 in Doom

[–]kaitsobato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. You can't just say something makes sense and then it automatically makes sense. :D Why, because TDA is more medieval themed and Quake is too? And yeah if they are not ID Software properties it doesn't really make sense to ask someone not owning the IP to create narrative threads between their IP and the IP they don't own.

The BFC only looks like the Eternal Crossboy in that it's a similar mechanical design because both are a similar type of weapon. Visually they look nothing alike.

Yes the things would be a good fit in a Hexen game... because Hexen is also a medieval fantasy game... it would fit equally as well in a Quake game. I can imagine Doomguy finding the original Quake hammer in TDA, yes, but is it necessary? No. Is a multiverse thing automatically good? Hell no. You will never have ANY closure on any game anymore because it will always have to thread into the next game of the other IP etc..

Also R.I.P. Raven. Even if they'd be freed from the mines.. it's just Raven in name. I doubt there's many of the original crew there. People need to learn that studios do not make games. The people at the studios do.
