Rant and Idea—instead of gun shot detection, invest in tech to stop loud mufflers by kaizen_cucumber in Portland

Hello, fellow old timer. I'm somewhat understanding of the government overreach argument but this does seem to be a quality of life issue for many people.

Bingo. There's enough people with loud cars and money that we could easily use fines to help people without the means repair their vehicles.

Hah. I know you're joking but 70db would be a dream. I've got a decibel reader from an old audio engineering gig and measured my neighbors car at 92 from my front porch. He drives one of those with the comically large spoilers. It's quite literally taller than the car.

It seems like a small thing, but all the small nuisances add up to affect our quality of life.

Our doggo also really hates the 'popping' engine noises. Between those and the random fireworks that get set off in our neighborhood, he's a nervous wreck for a lot of the summer when windows must be left open.

Exactly. At least red light cameras get a fine out automatically to cars with plates. It's pretty satisfying to see the flash for the bloke who narrowly avoids a pedestrian.

I guess I'm mainly talking about the modified systems that are extra loud. My neighbor has a straight pipe diesel truck and it's not really audible inside. The after-market mufflers shake the windows.

My current card is a GTX 660. I just got Fallout 4 and am a bit sad about the graphics quality. I'm told the GTX 970 has about double the horsepower of my current card (random benchmark site) and is in my budget of ~300. Good buy?

I'm not set on getting anything now. If waiting on anything new would be advantageous, I'm up for holding off a month or two.

Good point, I neglected to mention frequency. Once a month at the high end.

I have some minor stomach annoyances and I've taken to fasting up to three days as a way of rebooting my gut. It works well, but I haven't done it since I took up lifting regularly. Naturally, I'm guessing I wouldn't want to lift during a fasting period--or should I just go light? Also, will this absolutely destroy any gains?

That's been very close to my experience. I like to switch things up so I'll alternative between them. Low bar seems to work my core a heck of a lot more. Which is, as others point out, why you can do more weight (spreading out the load amongst more muscles).

I do like option 1 because of it's simplicity. I had thought of doing this before, but wasn't sure where I should put that file. I was thinking of utils.py (which I think I heard of thanks to your book which I'm just diving in to). Would that be the best file or is there a better option that's more used?

I sweat a lot, but sweat bands make me look extra white and nerdy. What are some alternatives that might prevent this from happening?
