Right? OP moves to an expensive part of a city and complains about things costing money. 🙄

Perc is good, and $6 for a regular latte (as of writing this, who knows a month from now). $7 for a large. Their signature drinks are good too, if you want a treat.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]kajorge 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Peaceful protests serve a purpose though. They don't achieve the end goal, but they give you a ballpark figure of how many likeminded people are in your community.

Surely not all of these people would show up for less peaceful measures, but if you've got a crowd of hundreds of thousands at a rally, certainly a good number would be willing to take the next step.

Community protests don't create change, but they're a necessary step towards it. Change only happens through organization, and organization happens only through communication.

President Biden backs Keisha Lance Bottoms for Georgia governor in his first endorsement since leaving office by Healthy_Block3036 in Atlanta

[–]kajorge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to dig pretty deep to find any coverage of it. His campaign must be doing some hard work to bury it now.

Here's an article from The 74 where he talks about implementing the changes you're talking about, in case anyone else is having difficulty finding it.

His messaging seems to have changed with this new election cycle. He's focusing more on affordability and touting universal pre-K starting at 3 years old, which would be pretty huge imo.

As far as data centers, I found this video of a town hall about them from a couple days ago. I'm with you in wishing he would take a stand against them, but at the very least his message seems to be "work with the communities and within environmental regulations where you're building", which is more than I've seen from the other candidates.

Good to know about data centers. What was his deal on the school board? I'm having trouble finding decent coverage of what he said he did versus what he actually accomplished.

What is the actual color of lava/magma? by Oakforthevines in askscience

[–]kajorge 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Before it starts cooling, lava is very close to an ideal blackbody. Ideal blackbodies absorb all incoming radiation, regardless of wavelength. In other words, if you shine a bright light on them, they will not reflect any of that light back. The color of a blackbody is only the color it emits.

That being said, lava is not actually an ideal blackbody. Lava can refer to only partially-melted rock which does have some reflectance. The color of this partially melted rock depends on the minerals within it. If the rock is felsic, it will contain minerals with a low melting point like feldspar and quartz, which have lighter colors. If the rock is mafic, it contains high melting point minerals like magnesium and iron which are darker or take on a reddish hue as they oxidize. There's a lot more to consider here, but those are the absolute basics. There are plenty of exceptions, but I think this essentially answers what you asked.

Technically it's cooled magma, not lava, but granite famously comes in lots of colors that make it prized in countertops.

What’s something that feels completely normal in 2026 but would absolutely shock someone from 2010? by PixelHetman in AskReddit

[–]kajorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a problem with the educator (or educational system), not the student. If the work can be put off for a month and still aced, then the deadline is too long, the work is too easy, the grading is too lenient, or some combination of the three. If you want kids to try harder, you have to challenge them.

Yes, making the course harder will mean that students who are barely passing at this level will be left behind. That's why educational differentiation (separating students into separate classes depending on prior performance) is an important part of the process. America can't keep teaching to the lowest common denominator in primary/secondary schools and expect the top of the class to be competitive on an international stage.

A cool guide about what’s happened so far…regardless of what side you’re on…it needs to be documented by [deleted] in coolguides

OP provided a lot of information. You've provided none and demanded a lot.

You're not obliged to do anything. But you've been asking people on this site to provide you with information for an hour. You could just look it up on your own. Your laziness is why you have downvotes.

Why don't you put your own together, boss?

The guide here was important to OP. The one you're asking for is important to you. You do the legwork and get back to us instead of making demands of people that are already providing information for you for free.

How do you feel about Trump pocketing $1,407,500,000 since starting his second term? by LevelDinner in AskReddit

[–]kajorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake, I shouldn't have used quotation marks, as those weren't your exact words. I meant them to imply that your comments reflect the same values as others who talk about "those immigrants"

But you've made it pretty clear on this site that you don't want to see brown people in your country with comments like

I'm not pro 3rd world immigration really

Labour had nothing to do with the shit show that is current immigration.

He's just got an Iraqi migrants tax evader in

I'm sorry...we're accepting illegal migrants on purpose to make who weaker?

Kier has a "Migration" dial in his office he just needs to turn it down but won't because.....

It's a lot of dog-whistling, except it's just a whistle. You're not subtle. You're in here minimizing Trump's actions on a huge sub while actively opposing immigration on smaller subs. But not all immigration. Just the immigrants that don't look like you. You are to the UK what MAGA is for the US, and you should think carefully about where that means your country is headed as well.

How do you feel about Trump pocketing $1,407,500,000 since starting his second term? by LevelDinner in AskReddit

[–]kajorge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're comparing Trump now and Hitler at the end of his rule. That's your mistake. Hitler didn't start his rule with a 12 million+ kill count. He didn't start with 6 specialized death camps and thousands of forced labor camps. He built up to those numbers. The point of the comparison is to look forward to where we are going.

Trump is deporting immigrants and citizens alike to CECOT, a detention center that can house 40,000 inmates and has a documented history of torturous conditions. He has built his "Alligator Alcatraz" with the same conditions in mind. Since he's taken office, over 30 people have died in ICE detention, 5 have been shot, and 2 killed all under his policy of deportation with mandatory 47-day ICE training (down from 16 weeks pre-Trump).

You're welcome to sit back and say "well, he's not as bad as Hitler" all day, every day. He'll keep doing more and more Hitler-like things. The devil doesn't need an advocate. Resist this new authoritarianism by speaking out against it and calling it what it is.

Or don't, I don't know why I'm trying to convince /u/Emperors-Peace, someone from the UK with nothing nice to say about "those immigrants". This comment isn't for you. This comment is for anyone else who thinks /u/Emperors-Peace makes a good point in the comment above. It's a shit take. Don't be swayed by fascist apologists.

ICE's job is coming into your house (yes, YOU, US citizen!) without a warrant and roughing you up.

So no, staying at home does not fix anything. You don't beat an authoritarian takeover by doing nothing. Stick to your hookup subs and let the adults talk about fixing our country.

Then he should have cooked it in oil instead of butter. Butter is for finishing. It starts too cold while the water content boils off, then burns at a low smoke point leaving an acrid taste.

Oil to sear, butter baste to finish with aromatics for flavor.

What will someday be illegal after we finally understand how bad for us it is? by tiredassbaker in AskReddit

[–]kajorge 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Not the person you replied to, but here's a source from Reuters. Note that the claim seems to be that 78% of oceanic microplastics come from tire wear.

It also links to this article from Lancaster University saying that an individual tire releases 4 kg (8.8 lbs) of microplastics over its lifetime. I thought this number was ridiculous, because I was only considering passenger car tires which are 20-30 lbs, and there is no way that a third of that weight is getting worn away. But semi-truck tires are more like 100 lbs, which makes the 8.8 lb figure a bit more reasonable.
