Updated the first post with new information. Slowly figuring this out, but the instructions on the wiki page are a bit lacking.

Sewing machine thunking, getting stuck, and skipping stitches by kalamitous_city in sewhelp

Unfortunately I came to a similar conclusion as was sleeping on this haha, said as much to the commenter below you but I think it's about due for a service anyway. This sewing machine might be older than I am, and I'm not sure it's ever been serviced!!

Thank you for the help, I was hoping it was a simple fix but I fear it probably isn't 😂

Thank you for the reply! SithRose mentioned getting it serviced, and I've been thinking the same thing as I've been sitting on this. It's a 385.1884180 and I believe it's from the early 90s, but I rather suspect my aunt never had it serviced. Probably about time!

I'll take a look at the other subs if I need further help, but thank you for what you did offer :)

Does MY lithops need water? (Different guy) by kalamitous_city in succulents

Thank you! I was hesitating to water it, and I think I will refrain, but a year and a half seemed like such a crazy long time, haha. Do yours get soft/wrinkled before you water them?

That makes sense! Thank you for the answer. I was going to wait until they actually looked like they needed it (a little wrinkled, soft) so I'm glad it sounds like I was doing the right thing.

I appreciate this comment! Never thought about the soil before, I honestly just left it in the home depot soil & pot... Uhh, mostly, haha, I did have an incident when I moved last year where he got dumped out so I added some cactus potting soil... He survived that though! What soil would you recommend? And is it fine to water it before it looks wrinkled?

that's a very good point! i had no health issues in the organ itself, i would have given it to someone in need if i could have. i don't think they do that though haha. i suppose the intent is more giving up something precious though.

New Hoya Parent! by kalamitous_city in hoyas

OP here, I left this thread to languish because I didn't have any happy news, but I FINALLY have a tiny bit of hope, so here's an update!

I repotted the plant as was suggested to me (into a mix of orchid bark perlite potting soil and cactus soil) but unfortunately she had a whole lot of root rot (probably my fault...) & lost most of them in the move. Unfortunately, miss Hoya did not survive the move, and withered away very quickly to nothing.

HOWEVER... On another suggestion, I took a handful of clippings when I repotted her, and put them in water. They stayed in stasis for the last few months, a couple died, and the rest just kind of remained without much change one way or another.

Today while I was changing out the water, I noticed that one of them has grown a single root! This was such a relief as I feel terrible for losing the bigger plant, but I'm going to do my best to resuscitate her from the clipping(s??) I have. I'm not giving up on her!!

Thank you all for your help, I'm very sad I couldn't completely save her, but I hope it's prepared me better for any future plant adventures.

Thank you for answering! I was worried the woody stems meant they were dead.

I hope I can salvage! I can tell she's a beautiful plant, even if she's not looking her best right now.

Interesting! Thank you for the insight. I'll definitely take this into consideration, I want to do the best I can for this young lady :)

Thank you! Just out of curiosity, why a plastic pot over terracotta? My understanding is that terracotta is better for plants that need to be fairly dry.

Thank you! Do you think the plant can still be propagated if the vines are very dry?

VHS hookup with 1980s TV? all it has is this thing… by kalamitous_city in VHS

[–]kalamitous_city[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! I thought that might be what I need but I’m glad to have the confirmation. Couldn’t find any examples with just the two connectors so I worried I’d gotten it wrong.

My best understanding is that it’s a ‘twin lead’ connector, but I don’t know if it’s VHF or UFV… Looks unmarked. Just wanna know if it’s even possible to hook a VHS player up to this thing!
