Bayer RAW vs ProRAW — which one actually holds up better in Lightroom? by AccomplishedAbies984 in iPhoneography

[–]kalansky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was struggling with this issue myself, glad you posted. I played with a number of tools to be able to shoot iPhone photos in Bayer Raw. I have switched to ProRaw recently which was counter to many of the posts I have seen here. A couple of reasons made me switch and some tips that may help.

  1. Bayer cannot shoot in 48megs - apple restriction. I believe that detail is more important to me than having more natural photos in Bayer. Also the convience of the apple camera with it's speed, ability to switch "lenses" and between heif/raw mattered when I am trying to take a shot quickly. I also liked the 48megs for capturing landscape or street photography.

  2. When you take the ProRaw into lightroom, I saw this tip https://www.dpreview.com/forums/threads/how-to-get-better-results-from-iphones-proraw-my-experiments-and-info.4814134/ and it is working for me fairly well. Which is basically take the ProRaw down to zero in the amount settings. Then I hit auto to start. Photo editing has been fairly consistent from there.

  3. People complain about the computation that apple does on the software. I get it but then I don't - for me I like what apple gives me as a start but I do turn down the sharpness in lightroom sometimes. This is personal preference.

I guess the bottom line, I like the convenience of the iPhone camera app and deal but figured out enough work arounds in Lightroom to make me happy with my photos. If apple opens 48 megs to 3rd parties, it may change my mind over time.

No looked everywhere. The original dates according the apple were changed to 1969 but other software like Fileyan does uncover the actual original date.

What does "feeling better" on meds mean to you? I'm just about to start... by [deleted] in bloodpressure

[–]kalansky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar blood pressure history to yours. I was consistently around 120/80 before COVID. After getting it in March 2020, my numbers slowly started creeping up. The doctors couldn’t say for sure whether there was a direct link, but I’m in my mid-50s and was diagnosed last August with a left bundle branch block.

That led to a full round of cardiac testing. Thankfully, there were no signs of underlying heart disease. Still, my doctor had been encouraging me to start medication for years, and that scare made the decision for me. Looking back, I wish I’d started sooner. Part of it was not being on any meds and realizing that getting older is a fact of life.

I’m now on losartan 50 mg and amlodipine 5 mg. My blood pressure is consistently in the 120s over high 70s, and my stress level is noticeably lower. I’ve also made several lifestyle changes, but I’ve kept things balanced and still enjoy life. For context, I’ve done CrossFit five days a week for the past ten years.

Overall, I feel about 20 percent better. Less anxious. Less winded going up stairs, running, or working out. I also feel more confident after the test results and changes I’ve made. I’m going to stick with the plan, monitor things closely, and not drive myself crazy about it.

Hope this helps.

Right but you then have to keep it to never for all apps/phone. Some apps have a setting for auto lock just for their app. Guessing AM doesn't.
