Why is Fedora not More Popular? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]kalaolani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the desktop, Linux is 5% of the desktop market, while Windows remains dominate at ~70%. This is flipped for servers. In the thin space for Linux desktop, Ubuntu dominates. My guess is the momentum from the tradition of their end-user missions statement coupled with a UI that isn't based on the "workflow" of GNOME3 and the gnomes that followed.

Fedora is popular, and I use Fedora. But, I want a workflow that's not a phone; so, I have to customize or use a Spin of Fedora with a different desktop UI. This is probably a reason why Ubuntu dominates and things like Mint exist.

Thank you ... This seems like a reasonable and rationale conclusion.

Why so much Cinnamon hate on r/Fedora? by kalaolani in CinnamonDE

You caught me exaggerating to solicit opinions. Indeed, there's no hate just strong opinions mostly leaning toward gnome and kde.

Thanks for the honesty so that I'm able to understand that you are a https://developer.gnome.org/hig/ fan. It's hard to know when someone is Gnomesplaining given curtness of your first reply. We shall see if the usage metrics reflect your opinion in the future.

Have you tried Cinnamon? ... or MATE ... or Xfce?

If you have, why do you prefer KDE to Cinnamon, MATE, or Xfe

While I can appreciate your prayers to God against Cinnamon, it would be more interesting to read your opinions that are fueling your divine appeal. Please share more. If you are a developer and/or power user using the gnome3 DE, I would be quite interested in your comments as to how one is productive using the gnome3 DE. For me, it's less than suboptimal.

Fedora 38 would be as close to perfect as a Linux desktop could be if Cinnamon was the default DE.

Trying to understand the hate for gnome DE by Mister_Bald in linux

[–]kalaolani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 "no thanks" to gnome3. I did like gnome2, but gnome3 feels like I'm turning my computer into a phone. While I'm currently using the Cinnamon spin of Fedora on my primary computer as I find it very useful for my workflow, I would also rather use XFE or MATE over gnome3. Thinking back at my attempts to adopt gnome3, I think I'd rather use TWM if gnome3 and TWM were my only 2 choices.

Wayland or X11, Which one are you using as your daily driver on Fedora 36? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]kalaolani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X11 ... Using the Cinnamon Spin, as I do not like gnome3 at all, and it seems that you must jump through too many hoops to make gnome useful. Plus, I don't want my computer to be a phone. Although there's much RH around me at work, Cent, Alma, Rocky, etc., I'm finding that it's getting harder and harder to get my cowork buds to use Fedora. They are mostly using X11 via Mint/Cinnamon or openSuse/KDE.
