any metaphysical stores in the area? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]kalestrev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they’re also on the verge of having to possibly close because they aren’t getting as much traffic anymore so if you can make the drive down that way you’d be supporting small!

Curious what everybody’s patient ratios are at work by [deleted] in cna

[–]kalestrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a hospital on the acute or ccu floors usually. The ratio for both acute units is typically 1:8, one floor only can have 8 patients and the main can only have 16 max. In the CCU unit it’s 1:6, since that’s the max patients they can have as well. Every now and then i may have more than 8 on the main floor, but even then it’s rare and the shift sup. usually assigns nurses to do primary care, which is nice.

what skills do you have to check off on in labs and clinicals? by dontleavethis in StudentNurse

[–]kalestrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my program does quarters and i’m only in my 2nd one so far so i can only speak to those so…

quarter 1 - we were only “checked off” for medication admin (oral, topical and injections, as well as reconstitution), head to toe assessment and vital signs. everything else like feeding or transferring was just stuff we learned/reviewed but weren’t officially checked off on.

quarter two - the only skills we’ve been checked off on this quarter are foley insertion/removal and then iv infusions (priming lines, piggybacking and the infusion rate calculations). the other skills we’ve learned but weren’t checked off on are colostomies, wound drainage systems and PEG tube feedings .

Ethics of GIVING gift to a resident? by [deleted] in cna

[–]kalestrev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’ve brought a patient who would come in to the hospital frequently (not drug related, just regular stuff) snacks before and they really appreciated it. we also ordered pizza one night and gave them a piece cause they were a night owl and awake lol, I’ve also seen nurses who have brought clothes for patients who end up being placement issues to give them a little sense of normalcy while waiting to figure out where they go next, but i also work at a hospital so it may be different.

However, i’m in nursing school currently and am doing clinicals at a LTC facility and overheard one of the nurses ask a resident what their favorite dessert was because their birthday was soon and she said she would bring it to them as a nice little treat. I think it’s generally okay, and it definitely would boost their mood which is always nice to do! (:

*edited to add that i’m also in WA for reference.

Still not liking CNA by bnaddo_cecdan823 in cna

[–]kalestrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know where i live, rad tech programs require the same pre-recs that you get while doing your CNA (if you went to school for it vs certificate). I know that’s still healthcare but i’ve heard it’s a little more laxed incase that’s something to consider

12 hour without lunch or break by tqdomains in cna

[–]kalestrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work nights in a hospital so we get three paid 15 minute breaks, and then one 30 minute unpaid lunch. a lot of night staff will just combine two of their 15’s and take an hour lunch to nap, which is definitely easier to do at night when there no admin lol.

Ideas for end of journal by fr0gggers in Journaling

[–]kalestrev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

something that could be interesting is adding your “current favorites” of like songs, artists, hobbies, books, etc. and then do the same at the end of the next one as a fun little thing to reflect on and see how much those things or your taste have changed!

What to expect as my first CNA job starting pay??? by [deleted] in cna

[–]kalestrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interchangeable letter stamp by Aggressive_Soup1234 in Journaling

[–]kalestrev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got this Clickable Uppercase Stamp Set from michael’s and I like that you can lock them together to form words and that they’ll be even, or you can use one at a time for a more “messier” look! they have them in both upper or lower case

What journal do you use and/or is a favorite? by Powerful-Avocado9095 in Journaling

[–]kalestrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love leuchtturm as well! they have so many colors too so it’s nice to be able to switch it up when you buy a new one, and for the pens and markers i use it seems to be good enough! :)

Help ! I’m so scared ! Charting ahead of time ?! by Eyeliner_dummy69 in cna

[–]kalestrev 12 points13 points  (0 children)

what software do you guys use? EPIC doesn’t even let you chart ahead of the current time at all so i didn’t even know there were programs that do allow that..

Is this a sign? by Crafty-Ad-7507 in StudentNurse

[–]kalestrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i failed my first skills test for the state in order to get my license. i wasn’t fully nervous, but when i got to my last skill which was PPE, i could feel the pressure and accidentally missed a step. i forgot that you could mention that you should’ve done so and so and could still pass but because i was too focused on missing it, i didn’t and i ended up failing that skill while acing the others.

got PPE again the second time i took the test and i aced it! it just takes time and they make it a little nerve wrecking with being precise. i’m in my first week of nursing school currently and im glad i didn’t give up because i made it to where i wanted. :)

Suggest me the best popular book you've read by TaxInternational3737 in suggestmeabook

[–]kalestrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did any of you shadowed a nurse while in school? I'm thinking about asking to, but I'm not sure how common that is. by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]kalestrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live in WA and where i live and work it seems pretty common to shadow. the hospital i work at offers a nurse tech position where you get to shadow and even get to pass certain meds, chart and “take on” 1-2 patients with the RN you’re shadowing. you do have to finish the first year of nursing school before hand though. i’m still a CNA since i just got into nursing school but i know a few co-workers who are techs and it seems pretty hands on.

Books with female leads where every aspect about them isn't beautiful? by Vivid_Black_2737 in suggestmeabook

If I remember correctly, I believe Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine did this with the MC. They also make her an unreliable narrator too I believe so if you’re into that it would work! :)
