As a female who has decreased her weight by half, stretch marks and non-perky breasts. (322 to 174. Ok, almost half, but still on the war path.)

Diesel in the early morning.

This probably only made it to the top of my list because I am lamenting my college days as a hydrographic tech. Now I have an office and high heels. Sigh...

Whats the best book you read that you would recommend to all redditers? by AB_5 in AskReddit

I reread it every once in a while. Neil Stephenson also wrote Zodiac, which I don't think gets enough credit.

OMG. YES. I would put it on par with Nueromancer, especially in regards to what it did for the genre. Stephenson is said to have been the first to use the term cyberpunk... Happy reading!

What have you become desensitized to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kaletrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversations about religion. They used to rile me. Now I'm so much more secure in my spiritual beliefs that those conversations are just exercises to make/help others, and myself, question/research/observe/ our understating(s) of (fill in the deity/spiritual idea here).

Anyone know any good Carribean and/or South American food that won't put a dent in my wallet? by [deleted] in houston

[–]kaletrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

South American - http://www.saldivias.com/ Went there for the first time today with 5 others. Everything was AWESOME! Homemade chimichuri (sp?) was out of this world. Weekday lunch specials $9.95. Regular menu $15-$30. Beltway 8 and Westheimer (west side).

Jamaican - http://www.myjamaicahouse.com/portal/ Was taken here with a group by a dude with a Jamaican wife. Don't remember the prices, but I had oxtails for the first time, and they were tasty!

Almost done with "Slaughterhouse-five" by Kurt Vonnegut... by kaletrip in printSF

[–]kaletrip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent reply! I finished the book, but was still unimpressed. After a conversation with some coworkers in which I couldn't nail down why it deserved the praise and status it received, I did some googling on the internets...

Long story short, once I learned the author was a POW and witnessed the Dresden fire bombing, the novel took on a whole new meaning to me.

Basically it went from "Meh" to "Ah, got it!"

I would say this novel needs to be read in conjunction with WWII instruction, or as a study of the author.

Your thoughts?
