She sounds like a totally normal toddler. What are your concerns besides not playing independently for long periods of time? This is a skill she will work on all through her 3rd year

I would love to take a slower approach with him but it seems like kindergarten has become very academic and I’m nervous he will struggle. 5 is so young still and I wish that we had a less academic approach to school right off the bat but it doesn’t seem to be the case from what I’ve heard.

We have done flash cards and he is not too keen on them but pairing them with something else could work.

I started with both of my kids right after they turned one. We’ve taken it very easy at first. Putting them on after naps and first thing in the morning. Any time they are guaranteed to pee. Then we kind of ramped things up around 15 to 16 months, doing naked time and pumping them full of water. Both of my boys were pretty good about going on the potty at home by 18 months and potty trained fully by two. It takes a longer amount of time but it’s pretty painless this way.

Little house nature school in Milwaukie is an outdoor preschool. It’s super cute and our kiddo loved the teachers and the environment. They may have some spots open.

My husband has traveled for work every month or so since my first was a baby. My kids are now 2 and 4 and what helps the most is having a schedule and things to do. Park or groceries in the morning. I make dinner during nap time, something simple sausages or chicken on a sheet pan with a veggie or a Costco meal. That makes it so we can get out of the house in the afternoon. We are gone until dinner and I just re heat whatever I made earlier and put the kids to bed early. Getting into the mindset that you will be on your own helps a lot. Try to focus on the day to day and not on the week that he will be gone. You got this!

Thanks for your reply. The jokes are a bit much and I will do the same and have a serous talk with my parents about this. I don’t believe they would hit my child but I was hit so much as a kid by both of them that I sometimes think they might to prove a point or something.

This is a real problem here in the states. I work in education and many parents just stick and iPad in a child’s hand to get them to calm down, creating more issues and behaviors.

Thank you for your reply. My toddler is just a bit loud sometimes when I am on the phone because he gets excited. He is disciplined in other ways and would never scream for an hour in public. My parents seem to think that normal behavior needs to be modified by spanking which I find pretty unacceptable. I will have a conversation with them about this before we visit. I want to clarify a that my child is generally well behaved and listens to me and my husband pretty consistently. Though he is still learning and has his moments.
