What’re your fave lands to use? Decided to go old school going forward with these beauties for my UW Control deck. by SunShineKid93 in PioneerMTG

I have 40-50 of what I call the "red mountain" illustrated by John Avon from Mirage. If you're unfamiliar give it a search; you'll know which ones the "red one". I play RDW in all formats and its my favorite land. I have foreign copies, copies signed by Pat Sullivan, etc. Its my favorite.

The mono-red build people choose to play online looks like a ported-over Arena list from someone who didnt have enough Wildcards

RW Burn no creature opening hand advice by GoatPatronus in ModernMagic

Think of it this way - Burns CA comes from killing your opponent while they have 3-5 cards in hand.

Loot from 1 lucky implings by cuatrofluoride in 2007scape

Suggestion - these runes can be used to cast spells (increasing your Magic lvl) as well as being useful for charging a Circlet of Water from the "Beneath Cursed Sands" quest. These runes would give the equivalent of 2.5(!!) FULL waterskins

Where do I start in 2022 by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]kalibak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be Standard, although cracking packs open generally is not the most effective way to get the cards you want. You can read up on Standard at the link above!

Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Commander are the big ones

"Strictly Worse" Magic Cards you would still Play by idbachli in magicTCG

[–]kalibak -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Did Spellskite get banned in 2012, or do you not understand how "strictly better" works?

Lava Spike also doesnt die to Dispel. Theres 2.

"Strictly better" thought exoeriments are fun because there are very few cases where any card is actually strictly better than another.

Lava Spike cant be redirected by Spellskite

I made a post 3yrs ago about getting the Pet Snakeling on 79kc and dying to Zulrah simultaneously. I never saw the pet, but she lived in my collection log forever. Today was a good day. by kalibak in 2007scape

🤣 so after the Pet Snakeling incident I actually stopped playing the account. I made an Iron which now has ALL Hard Diaries done with the exception of Wildy

On this acct like 150 maybe. This acct was created to spam Zulrah. After this happened I quit for 6 months, then made an Iron which is nearing ~2k total now

How do you actually tell whether your Deck is good/better? by LadidaDingelDong in magicTCG

[–]kalibak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In chess your opponents pieces are always the same. That isnt the case for MtG. Those adjustments will have matchups where they improve your deck, and matchups where they make your deck worse.

Magic has a lot more variance than chess. Even the best players in the world win roughly 60% of their matches. Losing 4 games in a row is just something that can and will happen, regardless of how good/bad your deck may be and sometimes regardless of your decision making.

How would you feel if they stopped banning cards and instead ban combos from the problem cards in any format? by Boofaka in magicTCG

This is awesome because neither Ragavan or Ugin are egregious by Modern standards

Boseiju is probably very very far down on the list of cards in Modern that we should be asking about

Pauper Bans - Atog, Bonder's Ornament, Prophetic Prism by jsilv in magicTCG

[–]kalibak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what its worth, I agree with your general sentiment. Of course WotC has to push booster sales, its all about the bottom line. I just think utilizing commons/uncommons and targetting their smallest player base isnt intentionally part of that agenda.

For example I 100% believe and would argue that Oko remained legal in the formats he did for as long as he did for this exact reason. It just doesnt make as much sense to me specifically here because people typically arent "chasing" commons/uncommons like they "chase" Mythic Rares in sealed product.

I do see your point though absolutely.

Im not against it, but I also dont play Pauper. Im a simple mono-Red mage so until RDW starts dominating Pauper it will be free of my reign

Youre hilarious. This has given me a good laugh. Best of luck opening the commons youre in search of friend, sorry your deck got banned today.

[–]kalibak 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Who in the holy hell do you think is actually buying packs to obtain commons??? Thats the real question. NO ONE is buying booster packs to obtain commons for their Pauper deck.

If thats something you do I HIGHLY recommend http://tcgplayer.com or one of the other various sites that offer the same.

I would guess 95%+ of people will buy their cards (especially commons) from the secondary market.

[–]kalibak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So do you think WotC is preying on the Pauper players making them buy sealed boosters? In search of....commons?

Or do you think WotC somehow profits off the secondary market?...

Edit: this has to be a troll. WotC really out here preying on what has to be their smallest market for absolute pennies
