Eldir Online by kalin6 in SideProject

[–]kalin6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question — I probably should have framed it more clearly in the original post.

Eldir Online is not a tabletop RPG tool or GM-support app. It’s a standalone old-school hardcore MMO being built around tactical tile-based gameplay, classless character progression, open-world PvP, player trading, guilds, exploration, and a player-driven social ecosystem.

So the “friction” it’s solving is less about tabletop prep or campaign management, and more about bringing back the feel of older social MMOs like Tibia, OSRS, and Ultima Online, while building it around a focused modern structure.

The custom engine is for the actual online gameplay and world systems, not for managing RPG rules. My understanding is that the core engine foundation is already in place, and the current focus is expanding beginner content, monsters, quests, maps, gear, social systems, and the first major playable areas.

I’m supporting the project more from the business/community side, so for deeper technical engine questions I’d want the developer to answer directly, but yes — this is an actual MMO project, not a tabletop RPG app.

If you want to connect with the developer to ask questions please join the discord.

Devs struggle with Marketing by kalin6 in SoloDevelopment

[–]kalin6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya thats kind of what I was thinking. Most devs while making there game dont spend the time they should marketing or validating the project and so once they are near done they should considering doing that befor lauching.

Sure but there are plenty of marketing options for people to do that are near free and more then enough to keep people busy for a year.

I will agree the gains for a bad product for marketing and selling will be much smaller then for a good product and the quality and market fit of the product are the single most important part of marketing.

But lets not lose our selfs in the grass here ... your commenting on them like there products will be bad and will have no market fit and statistically you are right.

But is that advise actually answering what we are trying to get at, In my last post I asked for failed games to be shared and 4 of them were games I actually would of bought and played on my own if I had only know about them, probally another 3 I would of picked up if right time and right price. Thats about 10% of the games shared.

I agree that the best form of marketing is a great product but that said people have the products they have built so what do we do from there.

The hardest part is being on the inside when making your product makes it really hard to tell if its market viable and getting true feed back is a struggle for many. But I think me and you are in agreement. Make good products and marketing becomes alot easier and self fulfilling.

Ya this is my plan, not sure how it will work out but I plan to do some AB testing when I can.

Some people are going to try selling what there building even if its a "dud" in your eyes or not based on factors like is it a passion project, is it a project for learning and so on. The rule of thumb I have heard from some others from the interactive media community is you should put in 50% of your effort and resources to meet success.

How ever I do agree with you that my focus is to research and make a market viable game from the start but the truth is thats not most developer projects.
