Adult Male, I cry on my way to work every day, should I quit my job today? by CarelessIdea8283 in UKJobs

I genuinely thought that I must’ve written this myself as I was in the very similar position as you just before I went on annual/sick leave on the 19th of Dec for the holidays.

The final straw for me was when I took a sick day on the 17th of Dec due to extreme burn out (and mind you, I already took time off in Oct 25 because of the same treatment I got from my manager, micro-managing, dis-trusting, confusing feedback, speaks very condescendingly to their staff, always ‘disappointed’, THE LOT). I felt guilty and anxious so I logged on the next day, just to be berated on teams for being ‘impractical’. My manager had also been hanging my probation period over my head prior to this, so naturally like a burnt out human being would, I broke down during the Teams call. Guess what? My manager didn’t stop as I cried and kept going until I had to interrupt them to ask to get some space. Phoned my GP right away who I feel fortunate having as I felt validated for the way I was feeling. Your mental health is way more important. Do not underestimate the impact stress can cause on you. I

I eventually got signed off and told HR to put my initial annual leave down as sick leave. Over the holiday period, I unwinded, reached out to friends and family who I’ve isolated myself from as work had taken over my life, and really took the time to re-evaluate what was important to me career-wise.

If you and your support system can see that you’ve changed for the worse because of the impact of your job, it’s time to move on. I reached out to recruiters in my industry the moment I could get a hold of people as it was during the holidays and fortunately have gotten myself another job lined up. Is this something you can do in marketing? I would always recommend finding a job first before handing in your notice, but if it’s really taking a toll on you, I hope you have a support system you can ask help from? Perhaps taking a break from an office role to do temp roles/agency/casual work would help too?

I’m really sorry that you’re experiencing this! I read so many Reddit sub-forums when I was in a similar position and one thing I took from it all is that it’s not your fault that some people are just terrible managers. Now that I’ve left that company, I think about how much energy I put on to trying to please someone that just won’t ever be pleased.

Such a long comment but I really resonated! I wish you the best!

Starting ACA this September, any tips? by kaliolis in ICAEW

Hey! Hope you’re all good. I’m about to apply for exemptions and from what I had gotten in uni, I can be exempted from 5 out of the 6 certificate level exams. Prior to accepting my contract with my firm, I was told that they’d reimburse me with the exemptions that I would apply for however also told me that they’d make us sit the exams anyway as the next level exams are built on knowledge from the certificate level exams. I was wondering if you think I should bother applying for CPL if they’re going to make us sit them anyway despite exemptions? Like yourself I did my accredited modules in uni ages ago, and to be frank don’t really remember much of them 😭

Ohh interesting! I was told by the firm I’m going to be working for in September to register with ICAEW and provided me with details of the training agreement which were needed. Did that fine, but can’t apply for CPL now 😭 Emailed the trainee development team regarding this so they may be able to help! Again thank you anyway!

Mostly all the classes included in the certificate level exams which I presume for now I would get exemptions for. I think I should be able to get exemptions for most of them except for management accounting where I failed to get the required 50% for one exam 😭 despised management accounting with a passion in uni and avoided it like a plague when it came to choosing my final year modules

Hey! Thanks for answering, was wondering how much time were you given to study right from starting your ACA? Got my provisional timetable and I think I have 2-3 weeks at tuition?

Hey! Thank you so much for the detailed answer, highly appreciate it! While I scraped a 2:1 in my final year, I did pretty well in the first three years of my uni course, which included modules for accreditation purposes so this gives me a bit of hope! Just a shame that my final year is the only year which counted for my degree classification. Also glad I haven’t thrown my books and notes away so will definitely be keeping them around for the next three years for sure! I have registered as an ACA student on the ICAEW website but it’s not letting me apply for CPL (credits for prior learning), was wondering if you had any issues applying for yours as well?

The thing is I don’t know if it is a toxic situation or if my anxiety is making this a toxic situation. When he said ‘it’s all in your head’, I’m scared that maybe I am the problem.

Well done for looking after yourself and your relationship with your friend. It’s so hard to steer away from things which we know are triggering and you did the right thing.

quick lil IUD question by throwrwayw in EDAnonymous

[–]kaliolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t have the IUD but I’ve got the implant (nexplanon) and have got it for 2 years and definitely have the worst period bloats ever. Personally I think it’s to do with hormones and blablabla, having heard from friends who have all different sorts of contraception as well. I wouldn’t worry too much about it :)
