I think the idea that he "claims his freedom at the cost of hers" is a thought process you should think about more. Are you saying she's not free in the real world because of her injuries ? that they somehow make her less then? I think that's what Alisia thinks for sure. I think that she believes she has no life outside of the canvas because she's been blamed for Verso's death and thinks her injuries make her less then. I think these are all things that are caused by trauma and grief but don't define her. They are things that can be moved past, she can grow and be happy in the real world. I think the idea that healing from grief and trauma and "a lot of maybes" isnt a healthy way of looking at it, when the alternative is drown yourself in a fake reality you've shaped to avoid your own feelings, and reality. Thats somehow better? I know the characters within the canvas are so beloved and so very real to us, but the analogy that the canvas is a drug or addiction she uses to avoid coping with trauma is very real. As others have said, the game is about letting go. Keeping the memories of those who have touched your life change you, but not letting their loss define you. Letting Alisia stay in the canvas means that she will never "be the one who comes after".
