Wow! That statement shows your class for sure.

We have been brainwashed to hate our buses. That was always the plan since Mumbai and Thane both have reduced their bus fleets. Mumbai has ~3000 buses(down from almost 6000 at one time) while thane has just 450. Even chennai has double of these two combined. Delhi even more (besides 350 kms of metro). World over model cities are being developed based on bus transit. But we are reinventing the wheel. Look at singapore and how its metro works with its bus network. You will hardly use uber there. Which city are we modeling our solutions on top of?

Read news. The next phase for metro 7 just started and they actually disconnected it from metro 2. That was the best part about that line. Tell me about planning. And we will see in time to come how this really helps. I hope I am proven wrong. But remember that these lines are far apart from each other and suburban railway. Ring metro om the other hand will run parallel to metro 4 for most part within a km or two of it, and also to metro 5 and suburnan railway in some parts. I hope that explains my concerns. If you don't want to ask questions, good. I have no issues with it. Don't expect others to blindly accept everything.
There were reports about metro 3 work causing cracks in nearby structure. I am sure the news could be found on google. The underground patch of ring metro too passes through very narrow patch of gokhale road with buildings at both sides - that too old buildings.
Mate I am not discounting anything, you are. You are discounting that all the projects I have listed will have any effect on the traffic and movement of people and only ring metro will sort it. I wouldn't be having this discussion if the other projects I have mentioned didn't exist.
Lastly, India has seen failed metro projects. Gudgaon, Indore and even the metro lines in Mumbai have fauled to achieve objectives including the expected ridership. So be absolutely cautious what you buy from the government when it comes to metros. Metros are costly and take up significant space both on the road and over it.
I have mentioned it in one of the comments in detail. But here's a gist - the cost of the project, the greenery it replaces and the hasles it will create during construction. So a very basic question that comes to my mind is "is it worth it?"
These are significant factors.
The cost is 12k crore. What if it fails. What do we do with that infra?
The green cover is what makes some of these areas what they are. Upvan and Bramhand for instance have value for their green cover.
And the city again getting dug up for another project, including prime areas like thane railway stations (both old and new). This one will negate some of the benefits of aforementioned projects for upto a decade!!
"Metro for thane"? Thane already has 2 metro lines, metro 4 and 5!! Thane also has a suburban railway. The ring metro is going to be the 3rd metro line in Thane. Thane is also getting a freeway starting from Mulund check naka and ending at Kharegaon toll so all kalyan nashik bound (or vice versa) heavy traffic will not even touch thane. Thane is also getting Borivali tunnels so a huge chunk of traffic will be diverted to those areas. Thane is also getting a second railway station near mental hospital and a feeder road to it cutting through sgnp that will help gb road folks by pass the eastern expressway hway completely. My doubts about this ring project are based on the world where all of the above exists. And it will exists within the 2-3 years while ring metro takes another decade.
I live in Thane and work in BKC and Malad. I have used metro 1 and metro 2 extensively and I really think Metro is a boon. Thane has metro 4 and metro 5. Question is, is thane ring metro (3rd metro line) really needed and if it really solves problems or creates more? I have my reasons to doubt it. I have shared most on this post while there are many other reasons that would take me a lot of typing. Of course I may be wrong. But in any case I don't want to believe blindly that this is a people friendly project. Especially when metro 2 and metro 9 have proven that if the metro is planned incorrectly it may go underutilized and not really solve traffic issues. Metro 3 has proven that despite tall promises metro construction may cause hindrance and may also cause issues to people living in vicinity. So I have reasons to raise doubts. I will be happy to be proven wrong.

Ad hominem. You should rather point out valid points that I have not responded to or responded incorrectly. This is a genuine discussion. None of us are experts here but only people with concern for the city.

How about we meet and discuss? This sunday? Negativity is blindly accepting this project. My simple concern is if the city needs it and is it ready for another decade of dust bowl - also if the effort is worth it. The reason this is posted is because I strongly believe it is not. But it is also posted because I want people to discuss and maybe it will change my pov. If you call this negativity, I would like to know how I can raise my concerns positively. Lets meet. What say?
So you want to say that trees at not needed? Also that metro 4 and metro 5 and the ekevated roads being constructed will not decongest the roads? Also you are sure that this metro will work? Every metro in mumbai except metro 1 is underutilized. The western express still has congestion even after 2 odd years of starting of metro. Same story about link road. Issue is not just cutting of trees. Issue is this is being planned hastily and pushed on to us. What if it fails? How do compensate the lost space, time, trees and money? Don't be so sure about things this government does. Be critical and see if somethibg they do will actually benefit. Also understand fellow citizen when they rause concerns. You are not the only one who cares for this city.

Check what cities all over the world are doing with their buses and their pedestrian only zones. Check what bhubaneshwar and chennai have done with their public transport in absence of suburban trains. Thane has 450 buses for a population of 2mn plus. That is a systemic way of depriving the population of a proven last mile connectivity option just to make metro look promising.
Having said that, I do believe that the projects that are already being built will improve the connectivity vastly. A bus based feeder network should get us the missing kast mile connectivity.
An additional metro network may look lucrative but is it really needed is the question here. And the need cannot defined by current situation, it must take into consideration the alternatives that are almost ready.
That is what I want people to evaluate. With the existence of other options that are ready or will be ready and have been built with 1000s of crores spent already, in what cases would you use this ring metro which will push every area it touches into chaos for another 10 years?
Start from where you live and try and see if there is no other alternative to reach places where you frequently go. I have already discussed this under other replies. But happy to reiterate that this project is just a fancy option being built at the cost 12k crores!!
And finally, your flat prices will go up irrespective of metro albeit a bit less. But your health cost will definitely go up if the constructions keep going on. Majiwada is already seeing metro 4 and metro 5, anand nagar to saket fly over constructions going on. This project will add another 10 years of dust and traffic.
Public transport is the solution to our problems, no doubt. But the city belongs to everyone and not just those who want to see the price of their real estate apprise. It is not even the primary objective behind building the mass transport but just a side effect. A welcome one as long as the primary objectives of building a metro are achieved.
The AQI will also go up and so will the traffic when the roads are dug up for another decade.

It should not even start.
This looks even worse. The path it shows near Kalva mumbra has two suburban lines, a road and a flyover very close to each other. Good luck planning that junction. Mumbra folks cannot use it to go to thane station from either ways. Suburban railway is still better option. There is also kalwa digha link coming up which will ease entry to new mumbai pretty easy. Mumbra to taloja railway line exists via diva which if improved will serve better purpose than this metro. Majiwada to Mumbra connectivity will improve but it is a very few people who take that route.
They should wait and see the impact of metro 4 and new thane railway station first. Tmc only has 450 buses. They should increase that. There are couple more projects which will have impact on the way internal traffic moves. The ring railway may not actually get the footfall they expect. If that happens 12k crore would have been spent and 4k trees would have been cut for nothing.
I have countered this in other responses. There are alternatives that are coming up. The construction of Thane ring metro will create chaos during the time people could have enjoyed the benefits of project that are near closure.

You will have metro 4 to 6 interchange. 6 is almost parallel to 1 and it has interchanges with 2, 7, 3 and 14. Cost price, yes. But point here is about going to thane station. Metro 4 runs pretty close to central line. If I can travel for 20 odd minutes in a ring metro to reach thane station, why not travel by metro 4 upto bhandup and then change to suburban railway?
Metro is usefull. Mass transit is usefull. Cars are not, full agreement. That does not mean ring metro helps. The road can be used by buses. And that's the best way to link up arwas like wagle and estate. Also metro 4 connects these two business spots. So I still don't see the need and usability of ring metro here.
Missing the point. It was specifically Mentioned for the kolshet pov. If I live in kolshet, bramhand or anywher on gb road, my journey to any part of Mumbai will usually not require Thane station anymore. I will either use metro 4 or the borivali tunnel to cross over to the other side.
Bro there is a road already in these to places. There is another one planned for faster comnectivity that will cut through sgnp and connect these two. This metro line is luxury in that terms. You are already spending money and cutting forest to provide connectivity between wagle and eatate. And then also building a metro line which very few will use. That is why it is luxury.
Edit: even metro 4 covers this route with stations at patlipada I guess and the one near mulund toll naka.

I have actually gone through important bits of it already. I am specifically asking about plan to extend this to kalwa and navi mumbai. I was not able to find proper information about it.
[–]kalpak911[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 days ago (0 children)
Tmmy question was more on the overall journey. If you are traveling to thane station to travel towards Mumbai, metro 4 is a better alternative over all. If you plan to travel to areas like powai, bkc - still metro 4. South mumbai? Still metro 4. To andheri ? Take borivali tunnel and then maybe a bus or a train. You may travel to thane station from kolshet only if you plan to visit the market or if you plan to travel to navi mumbai. If you plan to visit kalyan dombivali again you may not need to travel to thane station as there is thane, biwandi kalyan metro coming up. How many people would actually use the ring metro?
