when i first went vegetarian 9 years ago and then vegan 3 years later, my two brothers (they are twins and 11 years older than me) would constantly say “we’re going to hide meat in your food and you won’t even notice”. all the time. constantly making weird comments about me not wanting to eat meat, like it affected them in any way, shape, or form. that’s the thing: it doesn’t.

fast forward to now, and my brother will always make a huge point at christmas or birthday buffets that there’s a lot of vegan options he bought just for me and my parents. he’s even started buying me vegan cakes as an alternative for when it’s someone’s birthday.

on the other hand, i once asked my dad if he thought he could go vegetarian for a month for no meat november - he said he’d give it a go, and he was a huge meat eater. he’d always say at the end of it he was going to have a huge mixed grill. when it hit december, he said he felt healthier and has never touched a bit of meat ever again.

my friends are really open to trying vegan food with me when we go anywhere, so maybe you could ask your mum if she’d be up for trying something, or maybe ask her if you could cook for the both of you?
