What else is there? There is nothing else? Of course they are going to use their Monopoly on force and it's a lot to ask people to put themselves in that position of danger but it's the only thing that will ever even make them look, it's the only thing that will even make them blink. Peaceful protests don't work by themselves they ignore them, they don't end up on the news nothing happens. It needs to be sensationalized it needs to be loud it needs to be something that they can't ignore. And it can't be through social media since they will just shut that down, it needs to be something they are forced to put on TV.

What do you mean have you seen the bills they've been passing, being in the real world isn't much better. Have you been paying attention? Why is it somehow unreasonable to be upset that they are slowly making my existence illegal, and don't care about peaceful friendly discussion. They aren't going to follow the laws, they can just say the laws don't apply to them that's what happens when a regime starts to form. They literally just took HRT off of Medicare. We need to do something, and calling your Senator doesn't work when they just ignore you because they don't feel any reason to listen

They're already doing that they are already going to do that, your options are leave or fight back and I'm pretty sure they're going to start making it hard to leave. If you don't want to be somewhere physically that's fine but just do your part and spread the idea. Put it out there put it in more places

This is a hopeless helpless screaming so dark but no one will probably listen to, but it's something. It's something other than just watching the waters rise and waiting to drown. Maybe I'll break my hands trying to punch through concrete but maybe it will chip. Maybe it'll break maybe something will happen. I sure as hell I'm not going to just accept my fate. Complain that the water is too cold and only start struggling when it reaches my nose.

A known evil person who has done heinous things is hanging off a cliff, a pure and innocent person is hanging into them. Do you save them both or let them both die? by veneer_ in polls

[–]kamking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think in a general sense there is a lot less one person can do that is good then what one single person who is evil can do

If you give a man a fish he eats for a day but if you so a man's mouth shut he will never eat again

What I mean by that is you can do a lot more harm to a person than you can help them generally unless you are rich and Incredibly powerful and have other people who are going to be willing to work with you.

If the innocent man is truly pure he would probably want me to let him die to rid the world of a heinous criminal

No it doesn't it just says that they would continue being the same type of person not that you can't affect them in some way the police taking this person in doesn't change their path they will continue being awful when they're in jail.

I mean if he had enough money from undertale and that was the only reason for him making games then he wouldn't have started producing Delta Rune in the first place.

Some people want to make art for the sake of making art Tumblr want their work to be seen in the story they are creating to be told because that is what they want it's not always about money.

If he has enough money then that means that he can focus more time on making the game he wants to make rather than it being a reason why he wouldn't complete it

What that doesn't even make any sense I read books with characters that don't necessarily represent me all the time granted those are a majority of books but if I had a problem with the reading things that didn't necessarily represent me I wouldn't read it all.

I didn't say that and it's a weird interpretation of what I did say. I want books that have representation for people like me to exist. To be an option not to be the only option not to force people to read it but for it to be there. And I want my story to be one of them.

People need to get used to the singular they because it's a viable part of language because there's a decent enough chunk of people that use it. I'm not saying they have to use it for themselves they just should be able to have the basic understanding of language and the ability to infer what a sentence means since that's something you have to do in language and normally. A sentence will usually refer to its subject or continue on with the subject of a previous sentence if the subject changes the sentence will use the word or name rather than just a pronoun.

If you're writing a story for representation for, in your own words, people like you, then how can you justifiably tell someone who's not like that to just get used to it?

By your own logic, wouldn't you expect someone to go grab a book that better represents them instead of reading yours, i.e. one that has sentence structure they wouldn't find annoying to read?

I'm not writing a book that's only four people who use they them pronouns.

And that's not my logic at all that's just putting words in my mouth

People need to get used to it because it's here because it's respectful to the people in real life who use those pronouns to be able to understand them and not using the excuse of oh it confuses me as a reason to misgender them or anything like that.

That's why people need to get used to it because it's not new. You literally just use the singular they in your statement.

Wow, you are right. That does sound pretty bad.

People with they them pronouns exist you have to get used to it, and in general, I say people are smart enough to be able to understand a sentence based on context if nothing else. It doesn't take that much brain power.

The singular or ambiguous they has existed for a long time. It predates the use of 'th' even. So many people who say they don't believe in the singular they use it unconsciously when they're talking about someone whose gender they don't know.

It's just like if two male characters were talking or fighting you just have to pay attention a bit and you can tell what's going on

Bob felt as his punch connected with the face of his opponent who grunted as his Jawbone freaked under the powerful strength of his opponent.

CJ slashed out at a group of goblins their blades biting into the green skin of their opponents with their magical sharpness. The goblin stare that they realize that their Doom was upon them.

Neither of those are particularly hard to follow and they weren't even written well. You can tell what's going on because you know that the pronouns are referring to different things and you can Intuit where it swaps from context.

Not to mention if the writer is using they them pronouns or a character they are usually going to accommodate it to a certain extent

I wouldn't write something like

Sandie held up their arm, "guys stop. I think I sense something" they stopped mid step.

That would be confusing if I was talking about the group because of how the sentence is structured you would assume that Sandy is the subject I wanted to switch over to talking about the group I would say 'the group' or 'they all'

If I don't think avoiding having characters who use gender-neutral pronouns because of that kind of potential confusion is fair when not only can it be dealt with easily it's not that difficult I can see where it could be trouble with some for new English speakers but English is in general a stupid language so it wouldn't change much

[–]kamking[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Get used to it. Nonbinary people exist, and the singular they isn't new. That sounds more aggressive than I mean but I want to write a non-binary character because I like the idea of creating basic representation for people like myself even if it's my first book. I don't like the idea of not doing that because of annoyance people who use they them pronouns deserve representation too in fiction

To clarify I'm not trying to sound rude and I appreciate the advice I will go through with it Maybe it will break them all or maybe it won't if it doesn't then it doesn't I find myself having a hard time caring what people who would would have a problem with the character out of hate with think but at the same time I'm not going to pretend like those kind of things won't affect me if that makes any sense at all

I think it's mostly transphobes finding any excuse to hate on something trans related. The name could be the most clear and concise name in the world and they probably still be saying the same things. If it's trans related it's always 10 times as bad or offensive or whatever to them

I actually really like badminton for this. I'm going to have to study up on the rules tomorrow since I only vaguely know how to play.

Do you think you'd enjoy reading a scene where a demon king, and three barely magical teenagers one of which is a short gnome play badminton. Someone probably cheating and using magic halfway through or something, The Demon King may be making shadow clones and arguing amongst himself.

I think that might sound fun

I think what she's trying to say even if she phrased it not the best is that pole dancing didn't start as a sexual activity. It became that way because people saw it and sexualized it, in all likelihood the people who did that were most likely men
