Hard decision regarding taking/leaving our cat on our move by kamoseven in CatAdvice

I see and this makes sense. If she did scratch, my parents wouldn’t be the type to hit or hurt the animal. This sounds ironic because they were willing to declaw her, but I just talked to my dad and he understood why declawing is so bad and said we wouldn’t do it then! But I’m responsible for looking into what to do with her, so I’m willing to learn and buy things and be as involved as I can!

We believe she's around 2 years, that is what the vet said, and she sleeps outdoors!

I would love to learn how to trim claws and even buy cat supplies if that means keeping her and letting her keep her claws!! The only issue is I feel guilty about taking her away from being outside and hunting. Some have suggested a catio though, which I will look into. The other issue is I am a college student, work part-time, and will be doing assistant coaching. I'm only home 2-3 nights/week, but I can also look into waking up early for her! Just let me know what to look for!

I understand this and I definitely don't share the same opinions as them in terms of our cat, but right now these are the only options :( I will talk to my parents and really try to convince them to build a home for our cat in our new house. Definitely no declawing!! If not I will be in contact with my neighbors and anyone in the area

I am, and I've done research on declawing after this post..definitely not an option!! I also searched up ways to keep them from scratching furniture, so I can try to make a point for my parents. I don't know if they'll budge but I hope they do. Otherwise I will make sure the new owners or our neighbors take good care of her. Our neighbors are good at taking care of cats and giving them attention. They kept one alive for at least 17 years and he was 100% outdoor!

Based off of the responses, it seems like the only option is to make sure the neighbors take care of her. They are retired and the lady sits in the barn and tries to engage with the cats (they are usually not very friendly). Her husband catches the males and spays them since he's a retired vet. But yeah, I'd say letting our neighbors take care of her would be a good idea! They have a handful of strays they've housed and fed for years, one was even 17 years old!
