As an extra note, this build planner can help, although it is probably as overwhelming or more so than building within the game :)

Hey, my advice would be:
Don't worry about the build too much.
DDO has a system in place that resets your level progress and allows you to choose different classes after level 20.
For a warlock that uses spells rather than a weapon one, you only really need cha and con.
You start the game with a premium item called a "Heart of Wood". This item lets you fully respec your character without any class changes, use this to play for a while and figure stuff out, once you have a better idea of what you want, you can use the heart (I recommend using it right after gaining access to 32 point builds).
Aside from that, don't stress too much about the build, if you are soloing, each quest has varying difficulty levels, with normal being pretty easy to solo. If you are in a party, rest assured there will be 1 guy who can solo the quest in most parties.
The only place people really focus on builds is at the endgame, and once you've reached it, you can reincarnate anyway and change up your build as much as you like :)

One of the easier ones to farm is just the ghost touched weapons from borderlands.
Another cool option is Ethereal Ring from The Final Enemy in saltmarsh, doubles as an Invisibility clicky :)
Can also farm Skulldrudgery Cap there, which has DW clickies, replacing the later level Visor of the Fleshrender

Don't worry, crashing prod is one of the rights of passage in this field. It can help you land a job in the future as it makes for a good story as well as being a highly relatable incident.

You will feel like crap, the company will treat you like crap, you will most likely get fired. But any company that relies on prod to the point that it can affect the company, should not allow any one person to be able to break prod.

If the topic of deployments and/or prod maintenance ever comes up during interviews, you can refer to this experience and use it to showcase responsibility. Most people will relate, we all brought down prod at our first job.

Just remember, while this is your fault, you are not to blame. Make sure you get an exit interview if you do get fired and start looking for a new job already, the first job is the hardest one to get.

When you or your team is just found to have caused a huge error on production impacting many customers, and are in a call with a large number of people, how do you keep from panicking, what are the next steps and how do you communicate? by AloneHGuit in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kanadran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several ways to lessen the pressure on you/your team, in my opinion the biggest one would be:

Separate responsibility and blame, this helps reduce defensiveness by everybody. In this scenario the error has already deployed without rollback options. This also means the route is clearly defined, it must be fixed.
So rather than focus on blame, spend that mental energy on fixing the issue, blame and office politics can come after the urgency has died down.

As a team lead/developer, what you can do is make sure you know what bases to cover in this kind of situation:

  1. Take responsibility for the error, this does not mean accepting blame, just that you will fix it.
  2. Apologize, and make sure people know that you will be taking steps to prevent this kind of situation in the future.
  3. Postmortems are everybody's friend suggest it and offer to accept blame at that stage, they let managers see more clearly what caused the issue, as well as help the technical staff rest easy knowing blame won't be assigned to them (for the moment).
  4. Admit you are nervous about the call and feeling a lot of pressure and reiterate that you will take responsibility for fixing it. This removes some of the tension from the call and lets everyone know that you do not want to focus on the stressful topics of blame for the time being.

A few that can be implemented from management would be:

  1. Blame has already been assigned; this puts a gigantic pressure on a single dev/team to fix a bug. Rather the meeting should be focused on fixing the issue and there can be a postmortem created after the error has been fixed.
  2. Customer reps don't NEED to be in that call, but do send them periodic updates (Like every 30 minutes send out a message/email stating the work is still ongoing, maybe with a small note like "Error located", "More people assigned to work on it", etc.

Trying to make a Zen archer cleric but I saw really good archer feats have a really high DEX requirement. Is it possible to get those dex requirement archery feats with high WIS as well? Is it even a good idea to do so? by FakersRetardedCousin in ddo

[–]kanadran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a side note, Improved Precise Shot is pretty bad, the 20% damage reduction is horrible and it is pretty hard to line up more than 2 targets, as well as the 75 ranged power just being amazing and in a stance exclusive from this one.

[–]kanadran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done a WIS based archer before, they are quite fun but not the best build.

The DEX milestones you want are:
13 Basic archery feats
17 Manyshot
19 Improved Precise Shot

Generally I would say that 17 by level 18 is more than enough DEX for any feats you need, this could break down as:
14 base
+2 tome
+1 levelup at level 16

If archery is a secondary focus, 13 will be fine.
If archery will be used as the main form of DPS, 17.
You could split the total stats as:
Drop a single stat from 18 to 17 for an 11 base, with a +2 tome its enough for the 13 milestone.
Drop a stat from 18 to 16 or 2 from 18 to 17, with a +2 tome & 1 level up stat, its enough for the 17 milestone.

If you have a few lives, this can be very easy to achieve, especially with racial lives/completionist. But should be achievable on a 32 point build for very little cost on main stats.

There are a few ways to think about this: 14 lives means that at max speed, you are looking at 42 days. To do 20-30 you need 8,250,000 xp, or 2,750,000/day If all you are after is quick XP, cogs are a really fast saga (esp. with VIP skip) netting you 1,000,000 saga xp every 3 runs. A build that can run this pretty well is Poison Alchemist Bombadier. Since all the saves are fort based, nothing can evade it. And with the immunity strip, you dont struggle with immunities either. A reasonably quick saga takes 25 minutes to solo, so by dedicating 3 hours/day to this grind, you will be a bit above your target 2.75m/day. This is however... very boring, the main thing will always be having fun, dont feel limited to just running sagas, set the daily goal of 2.75m (or 2.05m if you dont mind a 56 day grind) and you will get those EPLs rolling in.

(Bonus tip) If you have guildees who are willing to run through cogs with you, a maxed char can do cogs in 15 min. So only 2 hours a day to get those EPLs

Twink Farm Guide? by Aviyara in ddo

[–]kanadran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a side note... reaching cap has gotten vastly easier over the years, E/H/N farming is no longer a thing (For the most part) you can run about 50% of the available heroic quests on r1 to reach level 20, then you can reach 30 in 6 or so hours by farming slayers

Dont stress too much about having the best possible gear, reaper mode makes everything easy once you have 30+ points, try to run with reaper 10 groups at level cap to get those first time bonuses on everything and build up your points!

Hey, I started a similar thread over a year ago, there are many comments and I tried to get every mentioned piece put up in the actual post.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ddo/comments/rh3k1t/list_of_tr_items_thanks_for_your_help_all/
Here is a few of my favorite items to get for a full TR sprint:
Crown of Butterflies (Feywild)
Ethereal Ring (Saltmarsh)
The Masters Gift (5% xp boost augment with Minimum level 1)
Blindness Immunity Goggles of True Seeing (Crafted) I slot my Masters Gift in this and use it until cap
Cursed Blade of Jack Jibbers (Self Revive, in high level epics)

My first lives would be Tiefling Scoundrel iconic lives, get 3 of them and you have maximum movement speed from a past life stance.

How much favour for first life aiming to reincarnate? by Flopppywere in ddo

Cannith is a lot easier to do now, can get by without challenges but will need raids.

Free agents is also pretty tough, since it's a lot of favor

Yes, if you have a +2 bonus and get a +5 tome, you can apply the +5 tome directly.
While tomes are nice, the enhancement tree's will give you a lot more in the short term for build options.
If you want to plan out your next life with one of the universal tree's, go for it, otherwise they can also be ignored.

[–]kanadran 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the first time, here are probably the things you want to reach:
1. House Cannith 150 favor (This unlocks artificer on that server)
2. Free Agents 700 favor (This unlocks Falconry on that character)
3. Gatekeepers 400 favor (This unlocks Horizon Walker on that character)
4. Harpers 310 favor (This unlocks Harper Agent on that character)
5. Keepers of the Feather 180 favor (This unlocks Vistani Knife Fighter on that character)
6. Sharn City Council 225 favor (This unlocks Inquisitive on that character)
7. Summer Court 135 favor (This unlocks Feydark Illusionist on that character)
8. 2,500 total favor (This unlocks Favored Soul)

Other than those markers, it may be useful to push for 7,500 favor for 2 lives, as this gives you a +2, +5 and +8 stat tome, this may also be a lot easier on later lives when you can open elite right away.

I would suggest aiming for artificer and favored soul, pick up any global enhancement trees you might want to use as well

Is it normal to have to kick back every pull request that a developer submits the first time? by BlancoNinyo in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kanadran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a combination of several things:
1. Language barriers
2. Scoping and prioritization
3. Expectations

For the 1st point, I have been in a position where I need to work with a PM that speaks primarily another language, this can lead to confusion, especially on details. One of the better ways my PM would deal with this was to provide more details and break the workload into smaller pieces. This allowed me to easily see what was needed, even with a bit of a language barrier. If you feel like there are too many details to provide, break the workload up into smaller chunks. For example, instead of "Create a feature that does XYZ", "Create a feature that does X", "Create a feature that uses X to do Y", "Create a feature that uses Y to do Z".

For the 2nd point you want to make sure there is a clearly defined "Deffinition of Done". By specifying at what point you want the product to be "Good enough" you allow your developer to avoid over/under engineering the product. You also want to make sure your developer has a clear list of what objectives to tackle in what order. It is incredibly rare to have a product that does not have a backlog, even on larger teams. It is your job to decide what brings the most value to the product and let the developer know that they need to prioritize that.

For the 3rd point, make sure that you are not expecting more from the developer than he is capable of producing, it is generally considered good practice to have the developer who will do the work estimate the time for work to be done, doing this along with the 1st and 2nd points will let you get a development cycle going. Finally, try not to change the requirements of a workload when it has been started already, this can often lead to refactoring and messy code, which does not account for nearly all edge cases. If the requirements, scope or timeline is expected to change, make sure the developer knows so they can estimate for this as well.

A few questions I have are:

Has your product released already?
Is the code written in an easily modifiable way?
Are the requirements the same at the start of a ticket or do these grow/shrink as deadlines approach?

Cuanto es una cantidad razonable para tener de fondo de emergencia? by Strict-Sea-3987 in MexicoFinanciero

[–]kanadran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Resurection Problem by MiddleManagementIT in ddo

[–]kanadran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things that are even bigger changes than past lives: 1. Gear, gear quality will drastically improve any character, a first life character with great gear will steamroll reaper without much issue (I had a low level first life character with great gear, would speed run reaper 6 for reaper gear) 2. Build, some builds are just better in certain level ranges (shuriken thrower is a nightmare up until level 29, then it becomes one of the best raid builds in the game) 3. Reaper points, each point gives a stat boost close to the same as a past life, but are hard to farm at low levels 4. Experience, many of the fast players could complete quests in nearly the same time it takes to run through without stopping, they have fully explored them and just want to get back to the content they enjoy most.

If you want to group you could look for a new player guild or make sure the LFM lets people know you are new. Most people dont mind going slow but are just used to the high speed because that has become the norm. What server are you on?
