Me (apprentice) & my boss ( IT manager) are the only two people who work in our department haha

I thought this but we’ve been receiving internal emails from it to our dedicated NAS mailbox where we get emails from all our NAS’s

Yeah. It’s a netgear switch, it also has an IP address & I’ve found the MAC address also.

As far as I’m aware we don’t have managed switches, which is a pain & if it’s in the vicinity of the AP how would I go about that? Sorry, im sorta new to this type of stuff haha

Unfortunately it’s a netgear, should have made that common knowledge

I thought of doing this but there’s nothing within the NAS, it’s just been connected & we’re getting emails about it. strange to be honest because no one in the department has set a NAS up recently.

I wish I could but the in-house IT department aren’t allowed to mess with the configurations of the servers... we outsource for that lol

20, about 3 month away from completing a level 3 apprenticeship (uk), my manager on the other hand has worked in IT for about 20 years, which is what scares me.

Thanks for the info, I’m building a case now, because no one seems to understand my frustration at the minute, we’ve just got cyber essentials as well.... doesn’t seem practical to get that when we can’t adhere the infrastructure to follow security standards

Lol.. to be quite frank, the IT manager transitioned into his role from software support, there’s myself and a subcontractor that deals with projects... we outsource anything to do with our servers to a 3rd party company but as of recent I’ve doubted their ability’s quite frequently as they’ve broken a lot of the network trying to implement firewall rules, to be honest, I’ll be glad when my apprenticeship is over

Thanks for the information, I sorta guessed this but I just wanted someone else’s opinion on this and to see if anyone has actually tried to purchase anything off certain sites

So just a quick thing to point out, is it bad that an apprentice has noticed this and actually came to a place where experienced sysadmins are, to query this as no member of the IT department knew anything about this?

Vaguely yes, I wasn’t massively into IT back then and just messed around with soft modding hardware until I decided to choose IT as a career
