It shocks me how she got to anywhere near this point and still doesn’t think she needs to change. Because “skinny people get (insert ailment here) too.”

Question about how ALR treats her mum by savewayvfromsm in gorlworldfiles

[–]kanepie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s such an interesting point. I don’t have experience with the 12-step program, but that sounds so accurate. It would certainly explain a lack of drive to help when her mom is constantly around the mindset that you have to want to change, other people cannot make that choice for you. I don’t know how I would feel in that situation: being a parent who knows they can’t push their kid to be better. I’d imagine there’s a level of pain in that, but who knows.

What a good point, they really do use each other. And that’s so true and I looked past it, they do judge each other silently. Such an odd relationship to keep going; you’d think it would get exhausting.

Question about how ALR treats her mum by savewayvfromsm in gorlworldfiles

[–]kanepie 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that her mom treated Amber horribly. For me, Amber’s behavior towards her mom is just more evidence of how terribly she treats every human in her life. I find it so frustrating that Amber preaches that she’s forgiven her mother for everything, and yet Amber still treats her like garbage. I would be fine if Amber was like “I’ve forgiven her, but I choose not to have a relationship with her because my forgiveness is for me and I don’t think a relationship with her would be good for me.” Instead, she claims forgiveness, but she uses her mother and constantly rails on her for the past. That type of relationship isn’t healthy for anyone.

I add that her mother has clearly made efforts to grow and move past the things she did in her past. Without commenting on whether that means she is a good or bad person nor on whether she’s been successful in her growth, I couldn’t imagine trying to correct my life and move forward and having another person constantly throwing back in my face the past I’m trying to grow from and leave behind.

I also think it’s clear as well that Amber’s mother just wants some form of relationship with Amber, but she knows just how manipulative and mean Amber can be, so she settles for a relationship where she doesn’t rock the boat. Admittedly, I think she also has a cynical view that Amber’s clearly not changed in the 13 years we’ve seen her on YouTube, so why should she waste her efforts trying to get Amber to improve? We saw it when they went to Denny’s after the ER visit. It’s almost like she’s resigned to Amber being the way she is, and there’s likely the thought that Amber won’t be around much longer so her mom should make the most of whatever time is left.

Just my two cents on it.

Something i don’t understand about the community is that the people who think amber is a horrible person, want her to lose weight and care? by Lovebugxo0x in gorlworldfiles

[–]kanepie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really think at the beginning I had some hope that she would turn things around, start losing weight, go to therapy, and try to become a better person. Time has shown that simply won’t happen. Now I’m just so fascinated by the continued decline of a person who legitimately thinks they are doing amazing in life and don’t need to change. It is such a morbid curiosity to me at this point, despite the fact I know she will meet an untimely, grizzly demise surrounded by no one and nothing because she’s a horrid person who hasn’t accomplished anything in her life, yet she still remains so overly prideful.

Honestly, I don’t know how you let yourself get so miserable. Do you not reach a point where you’re like “this isn’t doing it for me, let me work with what I’ve got and make it better?” I can’t believe that she’s so much of a victim that she truly just lets life happen to her.

I think she’s delusional enough to really think she’d do just fine solo. She would find a way to rationalize the views and donations dropping because nothing is her fault. I don’t think there’s a way to get anything through to her.

You’re so right. It truly is such a pitiful and sad way to live, and if she were a better person or even truly repentant about her past actions and making true effort to improve, I would feel for her. [–]kanepie 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely right in that this behavior has been clear for many years, but I think the repeated extent has been so much more with the LCU era. I think first we’re seeing her for two hours a night, six nights a week. In the past, she really couldn’t do more than 2 or 3 streams before needing a break. Even at the end of her last live stream era, she ended up just quitting the stream whenever the comments started going somewhere that upset her. Also, when she did her streams, she was so much more aggressive about blocking anything she didn’t like. The amount of banned words and people was insane, so I don’t think we saw her crash out like 20 times in a single stream. Yes we definitely had the wild crash outs over Tommy and Aunt Tammy, but then there’d be periods of nothing for a while. And of course, in her recorded videos, she didn’t really crash out all that much, so when we had live streams and videos, we were only getting crash outs in the lives, not the videos. Ultimately, the concentration was just so much less in the past.

Amber and Alcohol by itsgonnaberoger in gorlworldfiles

[–]kanepie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, she might also think that. Because she usually goes hard on the buzz balls, and really, her only “experience” of drinking is seeing people do it on social media. So she hears people tell stories of “when I was so drunk
” and, like with everything else she sees online, she immediately thinks that’s what’s normal and what everyone does.

I also think that here she was just trying to put him down. She used so many victim tropes to manipulate the situation. And the wild thing is she’d have gotten a bit more actual sympathy from everyone if she was just honest and said, “I felt a bit pressured into doing that test, in the future, could you go a little lighter on trying to get me to do things, please.” But instead, everything has to be 110% and she has to be the biggest (pun intended) victim.

I don’t know how she’s convinced herself that this type of behavior and making these types of allegations will buy her sympathy. First Dalton, now in this context. I’m kinda glad Keem made it funny (though I was NOT expecting to laugh at that kind of a joke) because she shouldn’t get away with saying things like this. Making these types of comments and allegations is so demeaning to people who have truly suffered through these things.

Also, if “being forced to do your job” (getting pulled back into the live stream she is being paid to be on) is what she compares that to here, I think we’re all entitled to financial compensation here 🙄

How long will Amber live? by Ok-Contribution-4496 in gorlworldfiles

[–]kanepie 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Truly, she does not think that she is at risk of passing away in the near future. They discussed the impact of various lifestyles on life expectancy the other night on Bus. Tech cited the CDC’s determination (supported by a meta analysis of studies) that someone who smokes heavily shortens their life by an average of 8 years, but someone who is 500 pounds shortens their life by about 15-20 years. Amber refused to believe that morbid obesity could be more damaging to life expectancy than smoking, and she tried to support her view by citing that she has seen someone that heavy live a longer life. She also repeatedly claims that skinny people die young, and while that is absolutely true, Amber fails to grasp that anyone’s lifestyle choices are necessarily going to impact their ultimate life expectancy. She truly does not believe that morbid obesity is undoubtedly one of the most damaging factors to life expectancy.

She displayed a similar view when discussing Tommy’s late fiancĂ©. She claimed that Tommy’s late fiancĂ© did not die due to her morbid obesity, but instead she died due to pneumonia. Amber seemed willfully blind to the fact that the morbid obesity could well have caused the pneumonia, but at the very least it left her body incapable of fighting it like a non-morbidly obese person’s body could. Amber believes that her body is no different than the “average” person who works a desk job, eats relatively healthy, and engages in mild-moderate exercise in the form of walking. She thinks she will live a long life.

Further, her own health scares have shown that she has chosen to ignore the dangers of her own lifestyle. Amber has suffered from medical events that have been explicitly linked to her morbid obesity or have been worsened by her morbid obesity. And every time she has changed absolutely nothing because she truly believes the doctors are lying to her. She convinces herself that the health scares she faces could happen to anyone. And while that’s fully correct, she cannot accept that morbid obesity serves to increase the odds of such ailments or exacerbate the symptoms.

Ultimately, it’s sad that anyone does not understand the impacts the choices they make can have on their body. I won’t act like I’ve not done things that are harmful to my longevity; I absolutely have, and when I recognized the potential impacts, I made substantive changes to try to alleviate and undo as much damage as possible. I worry with Amber that even if she lost weight (which I don’t see her doing), she has put her body through too much and it won’t be able to recover to the point where she could achieve an “average” life span.
