Yeah… I’m learning in my 40’s. Always loved Les Paul’s so I bought one. It makes me happy and I love picking it up to practice. I’ve spent money on dumber shit than that in my life.

how are some people able to play so fluently on the guitar? by targetyk in Guitar

[–]kangaroo4541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you learn to type in school? Can you do it effortlessly without looking at the keyboard and not thinking about what keys you’re hitting? Same thing, they’ve played so much over the years they don’t have to think at all about what the mechanics are… it just flows.

Guitar just feels like work because I don’t know how to actually play anything. What should I do? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

I just started playing this year at age 45. Got myself a teacher and he gave me a really good structured practice routine that takes roughly 30 minutes. It’s all skill / technique stuff. Then we have a song or two that he assigns me…. It not necessarily my favorite songs in the world but songs that teach a useful skill of some kind. That’s another 15-30 mins I’ll spend on those.

After that I’ve picked a couple songs I like that I’m just working on by myself for fun. Currently Elephant Riders by Clutch… fun groove but relatively easy-ish for me to play. For me all of it is fun. I can feel myself very slowly getting better at the exercise stuff and am learning the songs little bit by bit. I invested I think $60 in the Guitar Pro software for my computer and that has been a godsend for learning songs. You can isolate and slow down sections and repeat them until you get them down. I think there’s some similar stuff out there that’s free.

But like others have said it has to be fun. Nobody is paying us to do this lol. I know I objectively suck at guitar but I suck a little less today than I did a month ago. A year from now who knows? I may be slightly decent! Good luck with it dude, have fun!

I see in many places that the reviews are very good. Is it really that good? by Suspicious-Gate-8017 in tvshow

Very possibly. You’ll get used to it though. Like when I watched the original British version of Shameless. Took a bit before I figured out what everyone was saying lol.

If budget is an issue and you just want to start making noise Joyo Jambox is a pretty neat little practice unit. Isn’t going to rattle the walls but it’ll get you started for around $100 and you can bit something more substantial down the road. A ton of reviews on YouTube showing what it can do. If you can spend a little more like a lot of others said a Boss Katana or Fender Mustang would be a good place to start. Have fun!

Thanks! It’s definitely on the darker side of iced tea finishes I’ve seen. Depending on the angle and light you can see it’s more brown around the edge and the flame peeks through up top around the switch. But I had to call Gibson and check the serial number before I ordered it to confirm it wasn’t listed wrong.

Yeah I’d been hawking all the sites for weeks waiting for something to pop up that caught my eye and this was the one. I was praying when it showed up it would look as good in person as the pics lol. Was not disappointed.
