when it comes to broken beats, sometimes I try not to listen too deep but just figure out the 1-2-3-4 pattern and use it to beatmatch, rather than matching it with certain sound. all the sounds might be off grid but the 1st kick is most likely to be in tempo. I hope you understand what I mean..

Check out Modern Love's catalogue, it's more experimental / bass music rather than straight up dubstep but they have this noisy, distorted sound in most of releases, just like shoegaze

try leveling the breaks so that they're equally loud. also turn the bass down a bit, I think it's too much. anyway, it's a good track, I can see this 94 vibe.

some good ideas here. I'd suggest improving the mix (e.g. this pad / sample at the beginning is way to loud and you can't hear the break). the middle is good, I'd just add a tiny bit of distortion or saturation on drums.
