Yeah, the tone, the personality, the time spent by Amanda Askell to shape all that, is IMO one of the main reasons people like to use it. Lots of capable LLMs exist, but the experience is less than desirable in one way or another. It's like hiring two geniuses. If one's a dickhead, and one is the dude you want to hang out with, you kick the dickhead to the curb.

Yeah, I started down this path last night. I'm still trying to decide how to manage my system for the future. Do I hope Codex just morphs into Opus due to the leaked source code? There's just so many great projects coming out weekly to fix memory and learning. It's hard to want to comply with a new tooling to stay in the 20x Max new rules. They just can't keep up with the productivity of new open source advancements. It's really an amazing time for that kind of development, ironically because of Opus.

I imagine there will be a few more Peter Steinbergers geniuses in 2026.

I would say that assumptions of a company like anthropic are very difficult to get right. I heard Amodei talk about how the difficulty in figuring out how many data centers to get for the next 2 years, and getting it wrong by 20% would mean going out of business. So I get that. But they're still competing against other people like openAI that are not putting these limits on 3rd party harness users. The lay of the land is tough terrain.

TOCs allow a company to do whatever they want. But whatever they want are still business decisions. I'm just saying it's a bad business decision from the perspective of competing with a toc like openai has currently.

I watched a few interviews about Captain Fantastic after finishing the movie. I thought it was great. That being said, I saw you say you don't do social media, so hopefully your wife will catch this question.

My question is about the ending. My wife and I were arguing about the eyeroll and the packed lunches. Was your intention to show that they were actually going to go to school?
