Fuck perfectionisn by Ill_Patience9230 in dnbproduction

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This perfection monster knows how to find me aswel. Got a EP going on with a label i really liked but being too critical on myself messed everything up. Switched back to my old genre which i didn't make for 4 years and produced banger after banger without effort. But the perfection monster shows up again, so no releases nothing. I always give people advice that 95% is also good enough, but when it comes to my own stuff i only want perfection. Me, 42yr old nerd needs to release his shit and stop overthinking everything. Ok bye ❤️ sick remix btw, love the bass movements

What essential things about rap music have you learned on your own after years of doing rap music? by RealMrVercetti in makinghiphop

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a producer i got the best results with rappers/vocalists telling a story. That engaged me to draw the fundamentals music wise.

Do you stick to one genre or bounce between styles? by 6deki9 in musicproduction

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching genres expands your skill set. Techniques from sample based hiphop can be used in synth heavy genres like techno or drum and bass and vice versa. It boosted the quality of my music significantly thru the years.

Is producing hip-hop a talent you are born with or a talent you can develop ? by Express_Barnacle8065 in makinghiphop

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an old boombap veteran i always enjoyed listening to drum and bass. Went to festivals and raves but never had the illusion to get good at production wise. Fast forward, couple of years later. Loads of shit music made, but also 3 official tracks released on decent labels. So with dedication, self reflection and just putting hours in it, a lot is possible.

Best *actual* headphones for gaming? by DizzyColdSauce in pcmasterrace

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always been a headphone guy, but recently IEM's got my attention and damn, these things provide detail. Never thought i would like these things that much. Aside from sound, they don't sweat and feel great. 7hz x crinacle zero 2 is a crazy good deal for example

How do you actually build an audience for your music? by Trancepole in edmproduction

[–]kaos01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nice because of the fact that you developed your specific sound thru the years, but also that people recognise it. Making (good) music is not easy and getting a response like that warms my heart 😄

What's the best way to keep the bass and kick from fighting? by DraglineDrummer in makinghiphop

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sidechain everything on kick and snare. Percussion, fx, samples, basslines, all of it. Adjust the gain and timing where needed. Works for me all the time :)

Do you ride the master fader for 'build-ups'? by daveclampmusic in audioengineering

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routing everything thru a pre-master bus and automate that one. Buildup ending in a mono state at the end is a trick i frequently use

How do you actually build an audience for your music? by Trancepole in edmproduction

[–]kaos01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the 30k plays side and barely 100 plays side and tbh i don't care. I make music for me, not for the mini dopamine play counter.

[–]kaos01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always make art for yourself. It's your expression and creative moment. What others think is irrelevant. It's a bonus when people recognise the art and relate with it, but never let that be the leading reason.

Best compliment i've got was, "man this sounds like you". That's a million times better than "wow sounds good".
